Scheduled an appointment for August 6th @ 4PM but was running behind due to work since I was asked to stay an extra hour at the hospital. I immediately called Jazette a few times but no answer so I left a voicemail & texted her that I was running late & if I could come see her @ 4:30PM instead of 4PM. She said the latest is 4:15-4:20PM which would be fine but anything after, I'd have to reschedule. Got there around 4:20PM & understood I was about 20 minutes late so I asked if I should just reschedule or if she's able to still do my hair. She asked me what was it that I needed so she had me sit down & explain to her in detail what I was looking to get done. I literally was in there for an hour, explaining to her in a very detailed way of the color, cut & style I wanted. I even showed her a couple of pictures as an example so she can have a better idea of what it is that I want. I showed her what kind of color I wanted, the hairstyle I wanted & also mentioned to her that I do not want a drastic haircut; just to trim the split ends or damaged ends of my hair. She gave me her opinion on certain things & asked me to send the pictures I showed her so I did. She texts me the following day saying that her assistance is unable to do the hairstyle I want (which is a curly hairstyle & wouldn't be that hard given the fact that my natural hair is curly + wavy) but these curls were just more defined & wouldn't be hard at all to achieve since I have naturally curly & wavy hair texture. What I don't understand is that her assistant was in the hair salon when I walked in. She was the first one to greet me. When I spoke to Jazette, she could've showed the picture to her assistant & been upfront to me while I was there that she can't do it rather than letting me know an entire day later. Also, it's strange that someone who runs her own hair salon is unable to style hair but only does coloring & extensions. I never heard of that at any hair salon. Especially, not if it's the person's own hair salon. I winded up texting Jazette back & asked if her assistant is able to do any type of curly hairstyles & if not, then I'm fine with sticking to a regular blowout style. Next thing you know, Jazette sends me an email telling me that she cancelled my appointment that I had rescheduled with her. I never asked or requested a cancellation but she went ahead & cancelled my appointment for no reason. I believe the actual reason for her cancelling my appointment is because she realized how long & thick my hair was & knew she wouldn't be able to accomplish anything I wanted so winded up just cancelling my appointment without explaining herself. Why else would a hairstylist / hairdresser cancel a client's appointment when it was never asked or requested by the client? Especially, when the client was really nice & polite with them. In all honesty, I already knew just by walking in there that it was most likely run by inexperienced people who don't know what they're doing. There's only 2 people who was working there when I walked in (Jazette & her assistant) & I had a feeling they were not experienced. The place itself looks like a butcher shop. It's extremely small & tiny; doesn't stand out at all. They don't even have any rollers, twisties or other professional tools to do hair. Go figure. She just got scared & cancelled my appointment without my permission because they're both just really inexperienced people. Highly unprofessional too.

I decided to try G's because of its proximity to my job and because it's an Aveda concept salon. I called and made an appointment for the same day. Because they gave me this spot so easily, I assumed they were 'squeezing me in' and I'd have to wait awhile. When I arrived at the salon, I was checked in by a friendly receptionist who asked me to have a seat in the waiting area at the rear of the salon. I was only waiting for maybe 10 minutes or so when I was greeted by my stylist. My stylist, named Summer, seemed genuinely thrilled to be doing my hair. She gushed about how pretty my hair was, and how she has natural hair too. I knew then that this was going to be a wonderful experience. Summer asked me what services I wanted and how I wanted my hair styled. We chatted a good bit while she styled my hair, because she's so bright and bubbly. She gave me advice and politely let me know I'd need a trim soon (no bullying zone). She followed all my wishes to a 'T' (no hot combs on my head, no way, no how). And my hair turned out silky straight and absolutely gorgeous! She even offered to pin curl my hair before I left the salon to maintain my style. Unfortunately, you have to bring your own pins if you want this perk. Oh yeah, I had to subtract a star because I feel $95 (plus tip! But Summer earned that tip!) is a bit steep for a press n' curl. I don't feel any press n' curl is worth that much, however, I will definitely return to G's to be styled by Summer. I may even let her trim my hair next time. I'd also recommend her to any of my natural girls who like to rock it straight from time to time.

They never trimmed more than I asked and my hair always looked great after a blow out. $65 for a blow out is just my speed. My stylists always occupied the last chair in the salon which I think may have something to do with the pricing. Not sure. I always hated the raggedy waiting area couches and wondered why they never made an attempt to make that look better. Reception leaves a lot to be desired. One time I was charged twice for a visit. The charge was done 2 weeks after my initial service so that was very suspect. But when I brought it to their attention they took care of it and I just vowed to use cash going forward. I'm due for a trim now and I called to make an appointment. The man who answered said that Joel didn't work there anymore. I asked if there was someone who has taken his place. He said no and that was it. No attempt to try to make an appointment for me or place me with another stylist.

I booked an appointment and the rest is history. The atmosphere of the salon is extremely welcoming, they play a plethora of music genres so that no one is left out. The only thing is that you must book an appointment. I do not believe they accept walk-ins as they are super booked up. I personally go to Gisele, she is my life saver and I am forever in her debt, however every professional that works there is talented. He is SUCH a vibe and listened to me and guided me through the process and made sure I was happy with the end result. The salon specializes in curly hair and caters to that and will take time detangling, hydrating, and nurturing your curls. When I tell you that this is the best haircut I've ever gotten in forty years, I'm not being hyperbolic. I've gone to Ouidad, Devachan, Mona Cut, non-curly salons all over Manhattan and BK. Nothing compares to the attention and care I received at Rezo. Every step in the process was explained and I was asked a lot of questions. In two hours, I was transformed. I am so relieved and grateful, because my hair does not grow quickly! I highly recommend.
