On a back road in the small town of Port Jervis, NY, sits a local dive bar called Len & Jo's. They still use the same metal sheet pans my mom used to make homemade pizza every Friday night. Some of those pans have to be more than 20 years old. The pizza is thin with a crispy crust that still has a little chew. The dough is incredibly flavorful and has a subtle sourdough character. For me, it's one of the most unique pizzas I've had and about as close to homemade as I've found. They have a mixed pie on the menu, the cheese is a blend of mozzarella and American. I ordered it well done and it was really good. Went perfectly with an ice cold birch beer on tap served in a frosty mug. Pro tip: Ask them to make your pizza in one of the original metal pans. The newer ones are fine, but I don't think they deliver the same crispy crust. And, I would definitely ask for a well done cook. read more

Drove up from Middletown, NY after a NJ co-worker suggested the place. Took a while to get there (2 years) but glad we did. I personally enjoyed the ambiance of the bar. Linda, the bartender was great; very engaging and friendly. We order a classic pie and the Len and Jo special pie. read more

Ordered the weekly special. Baked Ravioli with salad and desert for $15. When the bill came they charged regular price for the raviol, charged $5.35 for each salad and $2.44 for each desert. This place was great. A turn back in time to wood paneling and booth seats. We tried 3 different pizzas. 1 50/50 mix w mozzarella & American chz. You would never expect this to be good but of the 3 pizzas we had, this was def the group's favorite. The 2nd pizza we ordered was a classic chz & the 3rd was half mushroom & onion and half pepperoni & garlic. If I had to rank these I'd say #1 the American mozzarella blend #2 pepperoni/garlic #3 classic mozzarella and #4 mushroom onion. They also make their own creamy Italian dressing which some of us tried w the salad, it was also great to dip the pizza in it. All in all I def suggest you go check out this classic joint and have some square pan pizza and pitchers of beer or soda and play the video game they have there. I have heard about this place a couple of times and finally was able to come here for dinner. They offer a full bar and it definitely has that neighborhood feel. This place is like going back into a time warp, definitely a dive but serve really delicious pizza. We asked our waitress what was popular there and she said mixed cheese pizza and that's what we ordered with meatballs. The pizza looked like a Sicilian pie but it was thin and crunchy very tasty plus it held the toppings really well. We also noticed that people were ordering the house salads. So we ordered their house salad, plus an order of batter fried mushrooms. Their salad had pickles, pickled peppers, black and green olives, cherry tomatoes on top of lettuce. The fried battered mushrooms were delicious, dipped mine in ranch dressing. Would I order them again absolutely! This is definitely my go to place now. After having pizza from here it's going to be a while before I can order from anywhere else. read more

A friend just moved to Port Jervis and I was visiting from Chicago. I wanted to try some local pizza and we decided on Len and Jo's Pizzeria. We love all things vintage, so when we walked in we were blown away by this 1950s establishment's originality!! Knotty pine, a curved bar and red vinyl benches and chairs. Some nice little 50s touches in the original decor. Our waitress was super nice and we ordered a pepperoni, mushroom and onion pie. I had read a review that said the pizza was soggy, so I requested it be a crispy crust and the waitress said no problem! The pizza was fantastic!!! I am a big fan! Heard alot about this place from co workers. I was in the area, and decided to check it out. It was slow in there at the time, but if you place an order, you will have to wait at least 30-40 minutes to receive your order. The crust on the pizza is very from what I use to eating. My daughter and her friend have told me how good the pizza is here so we arranged to try it out one day. The day finally came, being my good friend is a resident in the town so we picked a Friday at 7pm. Ok, probably not the best time to go here. I walked in to a packed place, nobody was leaving and no one had any food on their tables yet. I asked if they took names, the lady behind the bar said "no, just grab a table when it becomes available." At this point I'm starting to feel a little sour cause I had driven almost 40 minutes with the entire family to get here. Well, as we deliberated and debated where else we should go, about 20 minutes had passed and wouldn't you know it, tables were available. Now on with my review. We ordered 3 large pizzas which came out reasonably on time. Two pies with toppings, the other plain. The cheese was very good, the crust was nice and chewy and the sauce was good. Me being from the Bronx and spoiled with great pizza all my life I have to say it may be the tastiest pizza in all of Orange County. We were fighting over the last couple of slices. They don't sell pitchers of soda so be prepared for $2 a cup with free refills. Very Bar/Pub-ish atmosphere with more animal heads on the back wall than a Petting Zoo. A neighborhood place of times gone by but thanks to the owners, you can still take in a piece (or a slice) of those times. Will go again. (Unless gas prices go past $5 a gallon, yeesh!) read more

Rectangular pizza in a box, wow. IT WAS FANTASTIC!!! Port Jervis has four pizza shops, and this is the BEST out of them. The sauce is divine, and the crust is perfect. Quite weird eating square slices, but it is to die for!!! The staff that works there are amiable and will defiantly take care of you. We can't get over the great taste of these pizzas they sell. If we could give six stars, we definitely would, and they deserve it. read more

I'm originally from this town, and I get the pizza from here nearly every time I go back. I've been going here since I was a kid, and I don't think they've redecorated a single thing since then. I guess only the arcade games have changed. In all the times I've been, I'm pretty sure I've only had the pizza and once, the garlic bread. This is my favorite pizza. I love it for being greasy and cheesy and rectangular and delicious. Locals either love it or hate it. I've come close to polishing off an entire pie by myself. A little neighborhood bar, in a NY state river town. Don't go here if you're looking for a chic atmpsphere. There is just the bar and two cramped dining areas. I don't think the place has been redecorated since it opened 40 or 50 years ago. But the staff is friendly, the service a little slow, and the food while mot fancy is very good. The pizza comes on rectangular pan, with a crisp crust and excellent toppings. However if you go here you must get their hot sauce on their pasta. You have to ask for it, well worth the effort. This is a great little place for Italian comfort food. This is a great stop if you have been enjoying a beautiful ride along the Delaware River or better yet rafting on this wild and scenic waterway. Like others have said, this place is a small tavern-type dive, which to me is perfect! I come here for the pizza and a bit of nostalgia. It's like one of the small town taverns that I used to see growing up in Wisconsin so it takes me back to my childhood. I love it and wish it were closer to me. The toppings were good but I like more sauce on my pizza. No nock on them they have a good pizza next time I will ask them to just put on a little extra sauce. All right I've been putting off writing a review about Len & Jo's for a long time not that I have a problem with it but I didn't wanna write a love letter . unfortunately I think that's what you're going to get. I have been coming there since my parents brought me back in the 60s when I was 10 years old I am now 69 my family and I love the pizza. But we also love the other foods they have as well the manicotti The spaghetti and meatballs and of course the salad and/ or on the anti-pesto. The staff has always been great from the current staff to way back when there was a waiter in the 60s I wonder if anybody remembers him he used to have a well I don't know if it was a tuxedo but to a young kid of 10 years old he seemed like he was very formal he always gave me a smile and I don't mean that in a weird way. And the current staff is great. It's a family run business and they do a wonderful job and I will be going there until the day I die! Let me start by saying, My wife loves this pizza, but she also loves frozen pizzas! So if that's your criteria, I guess you'll love it too. This is actualy more of a Bar/ Family Italian restaurant than it is, just a pizza parlor, though most people go there for the Pizza. Anyhow, like previous reviewers have stated, it looks like its stuck in about 1966 ( in backwoods country, to boot) so it's not real uhm, "fancy". We have a bigger than average family, so fo us its kind of cramped; the overflow room is where we usually end up stuck ( which tends to be a little claustrophobic). So on the food: The salads, pasta items and appetizers are very middle of the road to downright,...uhm..lame. Yep, I said lame. I know you're asking right about now, "Well why do you keep going there?" as I mention in the begginning, "My Wife" loves that place". The Pizza? It's passable,...edible....a little on the dry side...definitely salty, and most of the time, unfortunately....overcooked. ( And folks, I like my pizza well done, so...go figure). Pricing? Not cheap (you think it would be, right?)...middle of the road...to moderate. I honestly think you could find better pizza for the price somewhere else in the area. The staff? actually very nice and attentive, if not a little "Mel's Diner-ish". If this place has a saving grace, that's it. So if you're in the area, dont want to drive around too much, are not too fussy about your food you could go there, I mean there's not a lot of choices in the area, and you WILL at least get your hunger satisfied.
