Very good experience. The breackfast was delicious and very fresh. Smoothies were also very great, natural and tasty.

Great bakery that also sells breakfast and lunch items. We had hot coffee drinks, a sandwich, a…read morecheese stick, and a cinnamon bun. All were very good especially the poppyseed and salt covered cheese sandwich. The waitress was very accommodating. We took photos of the food from the takeout section of the glass display which were not on the menu and she obtained them for us. Things were a little confusing for us Americans. We ordered from near the glass display at the front of the store and before we paid, we mentioned that we wanted to take the food to the tables in the back room but were told we needed to order from table service if we wanted a table there. We apologized and left and went to the back and waited quite Ll a while for a table to open up. While waiting, we noticed that there were tables outside that were for people ordering take out. We recommend doing the latter. Both the take out area and inside seating areas were well lit and had large picture windows.

I bought a loaf and immediately started tearing into it...without even cutting it. (To ensure you that I am not a savage, I was traveling and did not have a bread knife.) I like the bread's thick crust and soft interior. It is good with butter, jam, or even just plain. I have tried a few pastries here (poppyseed pastry, cheese Danish) and they are good, but I still prefer their breads over their pastries. Pastries are easier to eat without a bread knife though!

It started rough through no fault of the restaurant. A group seated in front of me talked straight through the performance. I mentioned it, and the staff didn't just nod sympathetically. They moved me to my own little enclave, right beside where the performers were coming and going. I spent the rest of the night in what was effectively my own VIP box, listening to opera. I could not have designed a better evening if I'd tried. The food deserves its own paragraph. The venison loin was tender, beautifully cooked, exactly what you want on a night like this. My waiter was absolutely fabulous. Attentive without hovering, and clearly the reason the whole thing turned around. To the team at Palmenhaus: thank you. You made my night, and I'm still thinking about it.

I only stopped by for an afternoon pastry and coffee, so I didn't have a full meal, but unfortunately both the food and drinks were just okay and felt a bit overpriced. Service also left something to be desired. Overall, it did feel more geared toward tourists than locals. I'd recommend stopping by if you want to admire the beautiful setting, take a few photos, and perhaps share a dessert, but I wouldn't go out of my way to sit down for a full meal.
