You do not need to do a long hike to enjoy it, you can be standing near it within 2 minutes, which makes it perfect for quick stops or bringing people who are not looking for a big trek. If you do want a little more time outside, there are plenty of trails to make your walk longer. You can turn it into a loop or wander a bit in some fresh air. There are usually enough people around to remind you that you are in a park, but not so many that it feels crowded. It strikes a nice balance between social and being chill. Woods aside, there are areas to play, grill, and hang out. It is the kind of place that works well for a picnic or small gathering or a solo walk. Simple, pretty, and easy to enjoy. I wouldn't go out of my way for it, but I will be back.

There is a nice, clean restroom building as well as pavilions for rental and a pond for fishing. Semi-recently a disc golf course was added, which I'm not a fan of because they cut down a decent amount of the front part of woods and it takes away from the experience in nature. But, I suppose it's a good way to bring more people to the park. The hiking trails can be a bit rooty, rocky and muddy in parts, so best to pay attention to your footing. I don't mind it because it makes the hike more challenging. There are up and down hills as well as a suspension bridge. The trails are marked with different colors. I also like that it's not easy to get lost here since I have a pretty bad sense of direction. Also, I've seen birds, deer, chipmunks, squirrels and snakes here. Whether you want to have a picnic by the pond, get a good hike in or both, Royalton Ravine is a nice setting for it!

The Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center is a cool little spot. The staff are super…read morenice. Inside the center you can hear wildlife sounds and learn what to look for. The standout for me was this amazing topographic map where you move the sand and it updates the contour lines live. I wish I had that when learning maps. They also run a bunch of events... I've done a luminary walk and an owl prowl, plus there are eagle nest outings and birding stuff. The gift shop is small but nice. Overall, if you're looking for a good nature outing, this(and the other sites they manage are great. Swallow Hollow is my favorite trail, but the whole area is awesome.

There is a tennis court and a basketball court. But no soccer field? Or baseball? There is so much wasted space that could be used for these activities. The very best part of the entire park is the dog park though!!

But let me emphasize the "wilderness" part of the trail name; it's not as well maintained as some hiking trails you'll find in WNY. From the start, it was clear this was a hidden secret of the area. With no parking lots at the trailhead, parking was limited to a small cleared area alongside the road. This space was only large enough for about three vehicles. Getting into the woods, the ground was uneven and rocky, and any trail markings became lost or confusing. Trails were overgrown with tall foliage, and poison ivy and poison oak encroaching and often crossing the trails. This said, however, the well-constructed benches, the bridges, and numerous signs about the local wildlife did demonstrate that this trail had at one point been lovingly built. Be prepared. Wear appropriate footwear. Mind where you step. And keep an eye on the brook so you know which trails to follow. It is not a difficult hike, but it is more rough than was expected. Mostly due to the need for maintenance on a few of the supposedly marked trails.

No need for maps or worries of getting lost, it's perfect for a nice walk. My son loves looking for all the wildlife especially if there are any ducks or fish. Luckily for him, there are plenty of ducks around here. Another nice thing about this park is that it is very scenic for photography. There were a few different groups there doing what looked like senior pictures or photos before an event. I am amazed at how restful and beautifully maintained it is. The flowers were welcoming, the small waterfall enchanting, the trails curious and winding, and the wildlife amusing. I felt more relaxed and grounded after my visit than I have in a long time. The only negative was that someone was smoking weed on a park bench and the odor instantly turned me off. I'm sure smoking is not allowed, but I was chagrined that in this little section of The Garden of Eden someone would assume to make the place smell like a stoner's living room.

I didn't see any other signs, but I had a hunch about the "Dead end" road across the street. The lot at the end of the road showed up on Google Maps. About a dozen spaces, too. The path leads to a boardwalk through marshland. Then you can choose to walk beside the meadow or explore paths in the woods. Eventually, it was a little too muddy for us, but I look forward to going back during the summer. The funny thing is when you leave the park, the back of the sign indicates the parking lot. This well hidden nature preserve is nestled behind a local neighborhood. After reading a comment…read moreposted by another yelper, knew had to check this preserve out next time in the area. A background on how this became a nature preserve; the Lytle family back in 2008 donated this 112 acres of land. It's perfect for hiking or bike riding. Even though I came on a windy, muddy day after the rain still was a nature lovers oasis. The preserve is magnificent im sure in the heart of spring or middle of summer. One of Niagara county beautiful escapes for tranquility.
