You know, when you enter a Chinese restaurant full of Chinese guests, that means they are great at what they are doing. Same here, the place was full of Turkish customers, so I was confident that this will be an authentic kebab, nothing fancy but good old meat, salad, sauce and pitta. And I was right! Food is great and even though it can busy in the evening, I was always in and out in less than 10 minutes. Their opening hours are great, they also deliver and you can also pre-order for collection.

The menu is pure kebab shop, the usual array of kebabs on pitta, chips or naan, I plumped for the mixed doner on naan. Service was quick, and in the 10 or so minutes I was in the shop, another two punters came in, this was late on a Sunday, so that's a good sign. Home, and I unwrapped the kebab, there was a lot of salad, a lot of sauce and a lot of meat, I demolished it in double quick time and was struggling at the end, so it was literally a feed for £5.70. I'll be back, good late night filling grub,

The best Kebab shop in the country, it's hard to argue with this to be honest. I have been going to…read morethis takeaway for a number of years and it rarely fails to deliver. It has recently been crowned best Kebab shop in the UK which is something that can't go unnoticed. I hadn't been here in a little while until a recent 'secretsupperclub' event was nearby and I thought to myself I must get one soon..... so I did. Like always I would go for the original kebab on bread with salad and the special Sphinx Sauce, if you have not tried this yet you are missing out! The kebab meat is real actual steak / beef pieces which tastes great especially compared to the rubbery meat other Belfast Kebabs have to offer. I speak really highly of this place because it is awesome food, but I do feel the portion sizes have also skimped over the years I also got a chip with my order and the chips literally covered the plastic container they came in and that was it. Even the size of the kebab looks as though it has shrunk down in size. Which is why sadly this is no 5 star rating for the Sphinx. That being said, if you are in the mood for a kebab you have to hit the best in town.... Which is the Sphinx, you will not be disappointed!

I didn't go here for many years after hearing the hype and whilst realising that their praise was a bit OTT, this is a good chip shop, though many people prefer it late night as the kebab place of choice. That is fine by me as they do a kebab that is a damn sight better than what is produced by most Belfast chip shops and eateries. The shop refit has mad the place feel more clean and spacious, and the goods on offer are all well cooked and are reasonably priced. As mentioned earlier the Sphinx sauce they put on chips is amazing, although I am frightened to think what actually goes into it.... oh well, ignorance is bliss!

I don't know; I expected to be wowed by the food here but maybe my expectations were too high. The…read moreprices demand great tasting stunning food. I knew the back story of this place. The very first Indian restaurant in Belfast (and Northern Ireland) was the Mogul circa 1970's. I was first in their door on day one lunchtime. It was superb. The very first waiter I met was over six foot, a Pakistani man who spoke with a strong Glaswegian accent. I'm sure the three course lunch was under £2. We got to know the two partners who started it all, over 15 or more years with four of us going to this restaurant every weekend and it was always joyful. The best waitress there was Kaye. Kabir was head chef and eventually Farouk one of the sons of the partners started to learn the business. Our lives took turns and we stopped going, but we knew when the Mogul business closed that they started up the Indian Ocean in Carrickfergus opening two more including this one. It's been over 20 years since we've been to the Carrickfergus restaurant but about two years since we went to Glengormley. That's my memory so let me deal with the food in this place first. The tikka masala sauce and the pilau rice has unnecessary artificial food colouring and far too much sugar. It's gratuitous. The korma sauce too was really sugar loaded. The Peshwari nan breads were not great tasting; they were crisp breads with measly fillings. They could easily be and should be much better but I suspect that with no tandoor oven they can't make truly great nans. They didn't have seekh kebab as a starter but did rustle it up on request. They couldn't muster a mattar paneer main which I find extraordinary as paneer was in the menu with spinach but on refusal the waiter oddly suggested doing something with chickpeas. I'm sure there's worse food like Quinoa. I opted for a king prawn puri to start, my wife has the seekh kebab which she liked. The puri were small discs of bread but not what I expected. There were 7 warm water prawns and each prawn sat on a puri and had about a tablespoon of sauce that was good but I wouldn't order it again. My main was an almost dry tandoori mix with no sauce on the side. The meat was tasty but I felt it overpriced for what was in the dish and I began to think the sauce came out of a Patak's jar. One of my companions got a mean portioned onion bhaji starter which he disliked and a chicken korma and asked for it to be tandoori chicken but it wasn't. He sure knew he had a sugar hit. The restaurant which was packed was very well decorated and light filled. Seating was comfy. Parking was very limited. The staff were friendly but I sensed price-gouging with food, somewhat better than mediocre, but not near value for money - there was nothing at all that would make me return.

Lets face it, cooking on a Friday night is never a realistic option, after a long week of work your…read morebrain often can't comprehend even the simplest of tasks - for this reason Friday night should be Takeaway night. This Friday we decided we would get an Indian Takeaway from Indian Ocean, It has recently opened in Holwood and from the outside it resembles a palace rather than an Indian Takeaway - it is pristine white with it's ambient lighting shining from the inside beckoning in passersby. The ordering process is simple, I called and placed an order for 4 people, I was able to ask them questions about the dishes without creating any confusion about our order, which is sometimes the case. I was then told my order would be ready within 20 minutes, which is rapid - especially when you're ordering 4 meals. On collection the lady taking payment asked if I was having a party, which was kind of embarrassing as we'd obviously over ordered - this made me begin to question my eating habits. Having now tasted the food I will be over ordering every time! I was able to pay on card when I arrived which was much simpler. The food was great and one little touch I really liked was that they labeled all the container so that when we got home we were able to identify who's was who's - all these types of things help get your dinner on your fork and in to your mouth quicker and cut down the chance of your food getting cold. As mentioned the service, restaurant and the food were all amazing (even the next day) and I will definitely be back!
