Had a really great experience coming in tonight to the tavern! Everybody from the hostess to the bar staff to the weight staff was friendly and attentive. Chris, our waiter was excellent, and made our dining experience wonderful. This was our second time coming in since moving here in October and we were so happy we did! First off I sent everything back to the kitchen. I was very unsatisfied. My food was undercooked and lacked seasoning. I tried giving the restaurant the benefit of the doubt. I had a 4:15 reservation and I was the only customer there. The tables were well set up which lord me in. When I smelled sewage water that should have been my Q to leave. We really enjoyed the intimacy of our dining experience: the table setting, quiet, "date night" vibes. The food portions are pretty large. Like a LOT of food for a low cost! The food was just o-k for us. My husband's steak wasn't seasoned at all, the salmon and green beans weren't exciting. They could go a long way with creating more flavor through sauces and/or seasonings. I think the lobster was amazing and that's about it. I generally like old school restaurants like Lehman's Tavern, so I was looking forward to my dad's birthday dinner there. I find the old style of décor charming. Service was good, both from the bartender (I had a drink at the bar since I arrived early) and the waitress. But my actual meal was underwhelming. A bland salad, cole slaw I didn't like, and the crab stuff shrimp was not what I expected. The shrimp was completely covered in a layer of crab, not exactly stuffed. And the crab itself must have had a lot of filler because it was light on crab flavor. All the "crab" overwhelmed the shrimp. I also tried my nephew's cheesesteak, and it is a legit Philly cheesesteak. The restaurant is close enough to Philly that they know how to make a good cheesesteak. My dad enjoyed his meal, so I may be back next year to sample more of the menu. read more

2/1/24. We were invited to Lehman's for a funeral luncheon. Lehman's did a great job. The room was packed and a bit tight but it worked well for our purpose. Parking is located on site and there is a parking lot on both sides of the building. Lehman's is an old fashioned place with a charm of yesteryear. It seemed to me that they have many veteran servers and a core team- that's always a plus. I ordered the chicken parm and it was extremely generous, crispy and tasty! We were all pleased with the entree. It came with a baked potato that was super hot and fluffy. I would've preferred pasta as is traditionally served but I was pleased with the roasted potato. Before the entree we were served salad- I highly recommend the house dill dressing. It's fantastic! Desserts were decadent too. I won't likely have the chance to return- as it is in Essington- very far from where I live now. I had a terrible day and decided to check into the Embassy Suites by the Phila. airport. My childhood friend suggested dinner even though it was 7:30 so we went out exploring for a place to go. When we arrived at Lehman's Tavern because it looked nice, we were greeted by a server who announced that they would be closing soon. If you are from Philly as I am, you know this is standard communication. They almost always start with a "no" and what won't work. But this is just their way. They are really friendly and helpful people with kind of rough exteriors but very kind hearts. She then said she would check with the kitchen which gave us the "go ahead". As we quickly walked through I thought "this place has that Philly colonial vibe like Betsy Ross is the next room sewing flags". We ordered a drink apiece, dinner salads, baked potatoes, and flounder stuffed with crab. And it was well priced! The cucumber salad dressing was delicious, the seafood was on point and the servers were kind and efficient. We even split a slice of lemon mascarpone cake. At the end, we met the owner who was hilarious and in the traditional Philly way told me everyone in LA is nuts and nothing there get's done. And if that were true I'd still be in Philly instead of living my best life in LA! But I don't fault him - he just doesn't know... So the moral of the story is: Live the glamorous life in LA and be happy - but eat at Lehman's if you want a solid tasty meal when you're near the airport. Different cheesesteak #992 in the last four years. If I was at Lehman's when I was little; 1. We were in the dining room with our grandparents because sisters and I behaved or 2. In the bar with my dad and said not to tell your mother we stopped here. Old school known for steaks. Sidebar, guy next to me got the surf and turf and it did smell and look amazing. I got the cheesesteak. It comes with steak fries, pickle and coleslaw. The meat, fried onions, mushrooms and cheese were pretty amazing. Plenty of each. Well blended. Flavor worked together perfectly. The roll was completely wrong for this cheesesteak. This roll needs to be scooped or get a roll that collapses around the meat. A better roll and this cheesesteak scores in the low 90's. I did not like the $17.49 price tag. read more

Lehman's is a delicious surprise. This restaurant is in the heart of a working-class town giving those hard-working folks a better place to enjoy a meal than the neighborhood bar or an ordinary diner. You can find on your way to or from Philadelphia international airport in an unassuming neighborhood. My wife and I stopped by for dinner coming back home from a flight. We were glad we did. The tavern part of Lehman's is a warm invitation. We were seated in the dining room;this was pleasant but unremarkable. Our waitress appeared immediately and offered drinks and the specials. We ordered the baked salmon and stuffed shrimp. James Beard may not weep for joy, but both were enjoyable, satisfying and surprisingly large meals. We couldn't fit desert into our Jeans. We are making another trip next week and will happily go back to Lehman's on our way home. read more

This place has years under it's belt, which is why you should come here. This is very old fashioned if you are looking for nostalgia of Delco. They wear uniforms, they have a mirror at the entrance, and if you can catch it at the right day they have a doorman. The decor screams 1980, and the bar is separated off and a smoking bar. The food is great. I can not stress enough how you CAN'T get a seafood meal in this area of town at all! This is my go-to place for a nice dinner. It's affordable, clean and pleasant. It's a small space but cozy. Right near the airport and I-95. Plenty of parking too! I kind of made my own order up so i got scallops, shrimp and crabs cakes. It was delightful. It was a sort of build your own meal. I also got the cheese steak egg rolls (a mainstay of Delco) and i had so much food (sides and all) i couldn't finish a thing. Wonderful restaurant. Lots of options. The service was impeccable. I don't have pictures, but my lemon drop martini was perfect. I had broiled scallops with baked potato and cole slaw. I had their house made cucumber dressing on my salad ( salad included). It was so delicious! My husband had chicken cutlets with a side of pasta, gravy was delicious! Portions were huge! I took half home. Ended the meal with coffee and their carrot cake (took half home) it was moist and delicious. We went for lunch but there is no lunch on Sundays so I'd like to go just for lunch next time. I have to repeat, the service was perfect! read more

One of the rituals of growing up around here was the Friday night dinner at the local Tavern. These were places, run by families, that had a smoky bar in one room and another room with fancy tables (we thought). White linen tablecloths, captain's chairs, fuzzy felt or low carpet, paneling, maybe some decor. It was never upscale, but it had a certain feel to it. Waiters and waitresses usually dressed in black pants, white shirts, an apron. We would come, the five of us. My mother would order a Grasshopper, my dad a black Russian. We would get Shirley Temples, complete with little swords and sometimes the coveted paper umbrellas. My parents ordered things like crab and steak, we got chopped steak (which we thought was fancy!) with gravy or spaghetti & meatballs. We kids would finish and go play outside where they could kind of see us - back then parents weren't so worried about kidnapping - until they were done, then we'd pile in the car and go home. Most of these places are gone, but a few remain. So one Saturday night, fellow Yelper Dee M and I decided to go over there. She had been before and as she tried to describe it, I realized it was probably a Tavern like we went to before. So we head down to Essington, very close to the airport. It's an old building on a corner, with a good sized parking lot. We enter through a clearly updated foyer. To the left - the bar, with sounds of a game on along with tendrils of tobacco smoke that may have been really from 10 years ago. I didn't see smoking but the place still smelled of it, and I found it, well, familiar. Many will not like it, I understand, but to me it was part of the ambience of these places. We were seated in the dining room -white linen tables, captain's chairs, painted paneled wood, some mid-range brass chandeliers and the low carpet. Our waitress came over, dressed in black pants, a white shirt and a black vest. Menus were provided, with a decent selection of both seafood and meats, even some salads and appetizers. A basket of warm bread was provided. The menu isn't multi-page but it covers all the bases. This isn't bar food, it's old-style tavern food, there's a difference. I get the veal parmesan with spaghetti and house salad with the recommended creamy cucumber dressing. Dee gets the prime rib with twice baked potatoes and the same salad. Salads come out quickly, are pretty big for side salads, and are crisp and yummy. Then our entrees come out - both very generous portions. Dee loves her prime rib and I am enjoying what I can eat of my veal because I am full. Yes, Mom, I hear you laughing in heaven, I ate too much bread. Thanks. When we are done they offer to pack our meals. Instead of bringing styrofoam containers to our table and expecting us to pack, or packing for us at the table, they are both taken away and brought back, the styrofoam encased in a neatly folded brown paper bag. When I got home later, I opened the bag to find my styrofoam box wrapped securely and neatly in a clear plastic bag so that if it turned around and leaked, it wouldn't soak the paper or whatever the package was resting on. Wow. I seriously have never seen a takeout package done so considerately and well. Our staff to a person were friendly and reasonably prompt. Prices were reasonable for the quality and portions of the food, it's not dirt cheap but you get a lot for your money. Dee and I left with smiles on our faces, talking about the places our parents took us to just like this one. We've vowed to bring FDC back here, next time one of us has to order a Grasshopper for my Mom and yeah, I'll probably eat too much bread again. read more

Definitely a throwback kind of place, the bar area was dark and had a really nice old wooden bar and luckily no smoking customers! I asked to be seated in the non smoking section. Can't remember the last time I was asked that question! On both of my visits I have been seated in a back room by a window overlooking train tracks. The room is simple with many square tables. The waitresses and servers were all dressed in uniforms which was nice and they were very prompt and courteous. On my first trip I ate the snapper soup which is a menu staple and tasty if that's your thing. On this trip I grabbed a turkey sandwich toasted on rye with lettuce tomato and mayonnaise For $9.99. It was stacked very high with turkey and tasted fresh and looked appealing for a simple sandwich. The sandwich came with a side of steak fries. I will return to try some other menu options In the future but for the simple items I've had so far this is not a bad spot to grab a bite. read more

The only reason I gave two stars was the service, that was ok. The food was not good and expensive. First the bread, totally bad. So hard and stale. The salad uneventful, bottled salad dressings. We had veal Marsala and scallops. The veal was tough and dry, the sauce helped it some. The scallops were the smallest money could buy. The baked potatoes were most likely microwaved and green beans were definitely out of a can. It's too bad because it is an attractive dining room that you think would have food to match. Boy am I glad I did. This place is a gem. Wait staff friendly and helpful. Prices around the same as most good restaurants. ( Not Applebee's or Ruby Tuesdays) Got there sat down in comfort. Had a glass of iced tea. The came my salad. They have a cucumber ranch dressing that is my absolute favorite salad dressing. Had the Filet Mignon, twice baked potato, and pickled beets. Everything was hot fresh and delicious. Again waitress was fantastic. Finished up with a fresh brewed cup of coffee. The meal was great. I discovered Lehman's by accident when I was in the area and it has become a go to place for me to eat whenever I am near Philadelphia airport. Tonight I started with a VO and Ginger ale and an order of garlic bread that was very delicious; it came with marinara sauce for dipping. That was followed by a really good homemade Beef Barley Soup. For my main course I had an End Cut Prime rib (from the chuck side they way I like it). For my veggies I had a very good Twice Baked Potato and Succotash. The Succotash was awful. The Lima beans were crunchy LOL. This place is old school; if you are looking for trendy keep looking. The food is great and the place is consistent. My husband and I had our wedding rehearsal dinner at Lehmans many, many years ago (okay, 23 years to be exact) and I don't really remember a whole lot about it anymore, so we were excited to go back recently for a surprise birthday party for one of his long-time clients. The party was great - the service was spot on and the food was really good, from the soft rolls and butter to the fresh salads and the perfectly cooked chicken cordon blue. Oh and the cheesecake was a great ending to a great meal. The restaurant itself was bright and airy and nicely decorated, at least the area that we were in for the party (the white room with the blue curtains overlooking the parking lot). It was really great to get back there and the party was a hit. We will have to get back there sooner next time, maybe for our anniversary. read more
