I have 3 lay-overs so with the warnings of an historic El Nino, quite literally, tons of snow, I thought it was time to pull the trigger. I called Whitaker and 2 others to get bids. Whitaker and one of the others sat with me for like an hour answering all my questions, and I'm a bit like a 3 year old, "why?" "why? "how?"....They were both patient and I would have been happy with either. Their estimates were a gnat's hair apart, both within spitting distance of the estimate I got 4 years ago. In this world of absurd pricing and gouging, these guys remained ridiculously low and fair. I opted for Whitaker based on a good feeling. What a great move!! ON time, multiple confirmations, and honored their estimate. The roof is gorgeous. Hazel would've been proud of the clean-up, and the crew was incredibly friendly and conscientious - they even worked, against my pleading - in the rain!! Here's a kicker. The day they started the job, the office manager knocked on my door and did a 'house call' to thank me and express their gratitude for choosing them. Now seriously, when is the last time you've even HEARD of a company doing that, let alone experienced it yourself??? I simply couldn't be happier. Genuinely. Someone was supposed to come to the house and discuss the roof, what it will look like, what needs to be done and when; the process of it all. That never happened. Someone came here to take measurements, but never discussed the aesthetics of the roof (a salesman was supposed to do that or something, but he never showed up). We waited to learn more about the financing of the project, payments, etc. and the owner didn't follow up with us until I called him the very morning the roofing contractors came to our home to get started. They just showed up and were ready to work (although that is not their fault) even though we had no idea that they were coming over that day and no one had discussed the aesthetics and the financial side had not been confirmed. We were waiting to get all this information and never got it and then BAM! There they are, ready to work. Ridiculous. We have been waiting for them to let us know when the gutter contractors will get started. We keep hearing "oh, probably Monday next week" from Mountainland, which was said to us a lot while we were trying to figure out when someone would come by to talk about what the roof would even look like (which, again, didn't happen until the very day they showed up to start the new roof). They are supposed to be here Tuesday next week. Ok, fine, but where is the communication!? I don't need people just showing up at my home unexpectedly to do work. I need a time frame and I need communication and it would make sense that the company would actually stay in contact with us as opposed to us always having to badger them to find out what the hell is going on with our project. Today I learned that we are being charged an extra $1799 because some extra wood was used to fix a portion of the roof. NO ONE let us know about this extra cost. NO ONE! It was a total surprise to us and we are, to say the least, pissed off. Very pissed off. That extra cost absolutely should have been made clear BEFORE that work was done. Again, zero effective communication from this company. The contractors who put on the new roof did a lovely job. That being said, I would take it all back and call another company to do the work or I would have hired them independent of Mountainland. Price changes in the amount of nearly 2K should never come as a surprise to a customer. Never. I feel screwed over; totally duped.

I did not have the funds to replace my roof and would need to qualify, if not could not do the job. Well, I got the call back... yes, your qualified and ready to go. New roof installed and then the follow up call demanding payment in full. I was so shocked and had to come up with the money I did not have. It was such a deceitful situation and felt the company was just awful. I am sad I did not leave a review sooner perhaps the guy who left the complaint on the BBB would not have been in the same situation. I have read through the bad reviews and sure enough it looks like they still do the same thing. Please know there are many good business out there and I leave great reviews for people who are deserving of it. I also believe it is important to inform others where there is something not good going on so that innocent people don't get taken advantage of. Don't just listen to me, read the other comments, reviews the BBB then make your informed decision.
