Excellent small little place that gives you personalized attention. I had my Bianchi bike, (one of the first mountain bikes since 1984) restored. I also bought a helmet and bicycle rack and he was more than happy to show me and help me install it. His inventory is limited, but he can order anything for you. I Highly recommend this place. I have passed this shop many times in the last 10 years or more. I decided to buy a bike helmet locally and rode over. The owner (Grimaldo Duran) sold me a beautiful helmet (30 bucks) , it fit perfectly. I left to ride over to a nearby cemetery to visit my nephew's grave. It's a huge place, half way in I got a flat tire! S**t...its early afternoon, everyone's at work, how am I going to get out of here?! So I called the owner Grimaldo Duran of Legend Bikes, it was a long shot but before I could finish telling him my dilemma he said, I'll be right there. He waited outside bc I didnt know where I was and he waited 30 mins for me to push my 70lb bike out to the entrance. WOW now that's customer service! Who does that? Brought an old Schwinn Varsity in for tires cables brakes and a worn out kickstand that won't stay up. When I Picked up bike he charged me $300 and still no kickstand. He removed old one, it was damaged and replaced it with nothing. I asked about it he said that's $ x-tra. That he couldn't get the schwinn kickstand but could put a bolt on type for x- tra. I went on e- bay and found right kickstand #350 for $25 and installed in 5 minutes. Next time I will go to JPR cycles in Lyndhurst. Should have gone there to begin with, they have worked on my Goldwing MC in the past and they also do bicycles and power equipment. read more

I rode my bike to Legend Bikes and asked to make the handle bar higher. He told me that he had to order a part and it would get in with the next shipment within a few days. I didn't have cash or a credit card on me so I couldn't make a partial payment which I told him. He said that I could pay when it's done. I called after a few days and I was told that the order didn't come yet. Today, after one week, I called again, hoping that the part finally came, and they told me that the part hadn't been ordered yet because I didn't pay for it up front. I trusted the guy's word that my part was ordered and the delivery is pending. Wasting my time and testing my patience!!! I called him and expected an apology over the phone but I was told when I said I will write a negative review about this, he said, "Go ahead if it makes you feel better!" Very rude and disrespectful owner. Posted that they're open until 6pm. Got there at 530 and i was told they were closed. Agreed to sell me the part i needed without installation because they are "technically" OFF work. Fine. Then they decide to charge extra for the part saying they are working overtime. JUST WOW. An extra star for being somewhat considerate of helping out your clients. Should've been one for their attitude and no respect for customers. Then overcharging just because they see an opportunity to take advantage of people. Very professional. *standing ovation* Well, if you're up for dealing with a business who doesn't value you as a customer no matter how big the job is, please, be loyal to this SBag. Wow. What rude, mean service! I've been going here for years for tuneups since I only live 3 miles away - a walkable distance away to drop my bike off and walk home. I needed a repair so dropped it off. I asked how long it would take and he shrugged and said he didn't know, he was busy with the pandemic. He handed me a ticket. I assumed he would call (as other bike shops I've used) with a quote once he figured out what needed to be done. No call. I waited over a week and then tried calling a bunch of times, but no answer and the voicemail was full. So I drove overe there. My bike was sitting on the corner, on the sidewalk, not locked up. In fact, many of the bikes were not locked up. Anyone could have just jumped on it and easily rode off. I asked him why he didn't call me to tell me it was done and he went off on me. I was taken aback. He told me my paper ticket washed off in the storms. So. That means he left my $500 bike out in the rain, no- the monsoon- we had the past weekend. Who cares about my leather saddle and bearings. Wow. I am so tired of businesses blaming the pandemic for their poor management. Hire some help! There are 10 million people unemployed in NJ right now, if you can't find a helper to answer the phone, process tickets, apprentice a repair helper for simple repairs - then you need management training. I have never experienced such unprofessional treatment in a shop before. Scanning the reviews, I see this is the owner's personality- he is rude to everyone! Even his responses to people's reviews are rude. I am expecting he will probably respond to my review with a snippy response too. A simple apology would have sufficed. No. That would be a blow to his ego to apologize for leaving my bike out in a monsoon, not locked up, not calling me when it was ready, and performing work on my property unathorized. He actually told me - "If you don't like it, go to the Montclair bike shop!". How's that for customer service? I have in fact been to the Montclair bike shop before and always had great prompt service....so I THINK I WILL. In fact, there are about 14 bike repair shops within a few minutes drive. My buddy introduced me to this place and told me how Grimaldo has been a BMX and Freestyle guy for a long time and that his son is now into it. These guys know their stuff! I am restoring an old school BMX bike and I went there to buy some random parts and get them installed. They were working on another bike at the time but helped me out right away. They did the work while I waited and had some cool conversations too. The bike has never rode or looked better. His son also put on a little freestyle show afterward. My new bike shop. read more

I hate leaving bad reviews but this place definitely does not deserve a good 1. I dropped my bicycle off about 3 weeks ago and was told I could pick it up a week later. I showed up and the bicycle was and even looked at. They called me back about 2 weeks after that and quoted me almost twice as much as initially quoted. Not cool. When I picked up the bicycle, they had major attitude since I wasn't getting the work done. Dude you held my bike for 3 weeks! Why are you ? She says one second comes back says we don't do that lol I ask if they have a specific tire size in stock, she says one second guy gets on and says we got all different sizes have to bring the bike in... what lol to buy an inner tube. I hate leaving bad reviews because I like to support local businesses, but I can no longer support this one. Only a few days ago, we purchased $70 in parts here and the mirrors we purchased would not fit on our bike. The mirrors were $40. We had our receipt and all we wanted to do was exchange the wrong mirrors with the right ones and this place would NOT allow us to exchange them. Hello Legend Bikes, this is the year 2020---where 99.9% of businesses offer some kind of refund or exchange for unused merchandise! Just terrible, terrible customer service! Brought my bicycle in for servicing after it was left out in the elements by a mean-spirited exwife. Was expecting the worst but the servicing and repairs were less than $75. Almost like new. Was supper happy with results - fast, inexpensive, fair, and thorough. Brought my son in for a new bike. They were super patient as he tried out the bike. Made adjustments on the spot to help him get the best fit. When he said yes, they inspected the bike thoroughly before selling it to ensure my son got it in perfect shape. The price was right and it comes with a year of service included. Count me and my son as loyal customers. Now if only he worked on cars too! read more

Grimaldo is a great guy and has worked on my Schwinn Cruiser several times and supported my company Ride Above. His specialty is BMX (he wrote for Animal Bikes team) but he has other bikes and tons of parts and accessories in the shop and is a great mechanic. He can do custom bikes, painting, etc. Great local mom and pop operation. Skip the chain stores and support your local bike guy! read more

My go to every spring to get a quick little tune up. I rarely need anything except air in the tires because it will still be in excellent condition from the last time they worked on it. These guys know what they are doing and won't try to sell you anything extra. I always appreciate that. Pros: fast turnaround with repairs, helpful staff, fair prices. Cons: Small selection of new bikes, limited retail space. Visited Legend Bikes to pick up components and accessories for a general commuter bike I was building and they had all the essentials I needed. Despite the small retail area, they are nicely stocked with the essential bike parts, components, accessories, etc. Their new bike selection is very limited, but they can order anything you want. I also dropped another bike for derailleur adjustments and were able to do it as I waited. Although I'm sure they can order it for you, don't expect to find the latest and greatest cycling bling in stock. This is a very down to earth bike shop that will meet the needs of the average cyclist and more. My experiences with this shop feel personalized and always walk away with a positive experience. If your local, I recommend you give them a try. Whatever you do, DO NOT deal with or buy a bike from Walmart or K-mart! You will find a much better bike and service from a local shop. read more

I was under the impression that I had to buy a tire coz I thought mines were tubeless. But they weren't he told me the problem is the tube he changed it all is good now.. Brought bike in after attempting to fix myself. Owner took 1 look at it and called to say it was un-fixable and to pick up bike asap. I said I would puck up by end if day. This was 1pm. Owner calls me again to say same thing assured him I would be there by closing time if 6pm. Owner calls a 3rd time same request that I pickup bike but more aggressive this time not sure why. I tell him again I would be there before closing. Owner calls me a 4th time more aggressive than last call and I told him I can't drop what I'm doing mind u I'm at the hospital and a bike pickup can surely wait a couple hours. Owner calls 5th time I had to hang up on him cause he was aggressive for mo reason and didn't seem to care why I couldn't drop everything and pickup bike. After refusing additional calls from them they started texting and threatening me bout not being responsible for my bike etc. I tell ya this isn't how u conduct business read more

I brought them a cannondale mountain bike that I had just gotten from a friend. It needed the rear rim straightened, a new chain and a new derailer as this one had been cracked when it got tweaked by a car in the driveway. that is how the tire got warped too. So his son says to leave it and his dad will make an estimate for repair and call me. He called within 3 hours and wanted $247 to repair a $400 bicycle! I said no thank you I will just take the parts and do it myself. Part of the reason the repair cost was so high was because he said that the rear wheel was ruined and couldn't be straightened out. So I bought the derailer $20, chain $20 and then asked about a spoke tool, he said oh yeah you need tools for the chain too. So I got a spoke tool for $9.99 and a chain tool for $25 with tax it came to $80. I take everything home and watch a few videos on straightening tires/rims and mess with the spokes for about 15 minutes and believe it or not I got that tire PERFECTLY TRUE! Then I get around to installing the new chain because the old one was rusty and needed to be thrown away and the new chain doesn't need the nifty new $25 chain tool that he so kindly told me that I needed. The old chain was ruined already and I could have cut it off with bolt cutters before spending 25 bucks to remove it. The guy was very polite and knowledgeable, very helpful and even gave me a little end cap for the end of the shift wire thingy. I was/am feeling like I got scammed by him selling me a $25 tool that I didn't even need, and that he tried to scam me by telling me that it was impossible to straighten the rear wheel and that I needed a new one for $135 + dollars and I was able to straighten it out in less than 20 minutes! He is supposed to be an experienced bicycle mechanic but it appears to me that he is more like an experienced scam artist/estafador!!! His son also intimated to me that it is sooo difficult to install the derailer and that I probably couldn't do it myself as it is very difficult and that the gears won't shift properly but I got that done easily as well so it appears that he is practicing his fathers art form as well. read more

STAY AWAY FROM THIS BIKE SHOP. If you are in the area just go down the road to JPR cycls, I alaways go there and they have great staff, parts and prices. Not the same for this shop. My friends and i went in there to get patch kits for our bikes and while I was was bieng profesanal and talking to one of the workers they were all bieng a little rowdy so he told all of us to get the hell out. so i said ok dont take my money anyway. he replied back to me with ok if you want to be a smartass your banned. As we were riding away my friend said fuck you and he confused him with me, so when I went back there today because one of my friends cranks were loose the kid came to m e and said "hey look its mr fuck you, well fuck you too get out of my store". My friend left to because he did not like the way he was disrespecting me.
