I completed 10 hours of private instruction with Dan Patinkin upon the enthusiastic recommendation…read moreof a personal friend, who had in turn been enthusiastically recommended by both of her MBA bosses. I would like to keep the enthusiastic chain of recommendation momentum going! Obviously, everyone's results will vary depending on what their strength and weaknesses are, and their individual learning styles. So I'll just keep this to my personal experience. I began studying for the GMAT in August of 2017. I work in non-profits and studied the liberal arts; the last time I did math was AP Stats in high school and I never took anything more advanced than Algebra 2. Thinking about standardized testing, let alone math, still makes my heart race. From the get-go, I knew my work with Dan would be pretty much exclusively dedicated to quant, and that's partially why it was important to me to spring for personal tutoring rather than a class. Wouldn't have made sense to spend my precious time and money practicing verbal, since I desperately needed extra support with math. Manhattan's attention to detail, and that of Dan specifically, helped me transform over the space of a few short months. Don't get me wrong, you have to work a lot.... like 10-15 hours per week for 4+ months... but for me, the hardest part of studying has always been knowing exactly WHERE to focus my efforts, and that's what Manhattan/Dan took care of for me. So all I had to do, thanks to his help, was.... practice. At one point, I scored a 490 on a practice test and CRIED. I am proud to say that last month, I sat for my very first (and final!) GMAT in December 2017 and scored a 720 -- 46 Q (WAY above my target) and 44 V! I wouldn't have been able to make a fraction of these gains -- let alone keep my cool -- if it weren't for Dan's insight, generosity, and encouragement. Thank you!

I had quite a long journey with the GMAT, which spanned over the period of about a year and a half…read more Initially, I took the GRE, and only gave myself about 5 weeks to study for the exam. I reached out to Manhattan Prep to schedule some tutoring time since I was under the gun and I wanted to maximize my learning time. My expectations were far exceeded with Chris Berman. Not only does he know the test inside and out, but after reviewing my strengths and weaknesses he quickly asserted that I should consider taking the GMAT instead of the GRE. I took a practice test cold and scored slightly above what I was scoring on the GRE practice tests, which I was familiar with. Fast forward to a year later, I went to Chris again before taking the GMAT for the second time. The first time I took it, nerves got to me. Chris was so nice as to have an extensive email conversation with me after taking the exam to go over my scores and give me his thoughts, even though I hadn't gone to him in over a year. Knowing I was taking the exam again, I scheduled more time with Chris. I knew going to him to hone in on my weaknesses would give me confidence in an of itself, as well as increase my skill level on those question types I struggled with. I was again under the gun time-wise, and he was great in working with my schedule and making time for me. His ability to laser in on what each question type is really simplifies what you're looking for when you get each question. This helped me immensely with the critical reasoning, which I sometimes went around in circles with on the hard question types. More than this, Chris has a way of imparting wisdom in metaphors that stick with you. He noted my weaknesses and told me a few anecdotes and sayings that I literally repeated in my head on test day and made the difference between me staying on track time-wise and taking too long on certain questions (I tend to want to double/triple check that I have a question right, which you cannot do on the GMAT). Overall, it's not only Chris' ability to hone in on what you're weak in, but also his outlook on the test and his knowledge on strategy that really makes him invaluable. The private tutoring is an investment, but I couldn't have been happier with it. My initial practice test was a 620, the first exam I got a 640 (nerves) then I got a 700 the second time, which was my minimum goal score. If I had more time before applications, I would take it one more time to try to get in the 730 realm, but I'm happy to have gotten in my goal range, and Chris was crucial in getting me there. Go with him!

She has also gained more confidence, her instructor is very positive and encouraging. They are extremely flexible with hours/scheduling. I can always text them for a quick and easy communication rather than calling and playing phone tag. After every session I get an e-mail with notes from her instructor sharing what they covered in the lesson and how it went with a list of things she did well and things she can continue to practice. Also, the sessions are easy to use and set up, it's just a link to click in an e-mail instead of downloading or installing Zoom or any other platform on the device. If I want them to cover any specific homework assignment, workbook, skill or even state testing practice they incorporate that into the session for us. I would highly recommend them!

After starting with a different (and expensive) college counselor located in Santa Monica and SAT…read moretutor (expensive) who both came highly recommended but were essentially completely useless, we received a glowing recommendation for Blue Train and made the switch. Best decision ever. Our two sons used Blue Train for multiple things over their junior and senior years - test assessment/diagnostic, ACT prep and guidance, college list building, guidance re HS classes and even extra curricular advise, as well as navigating the college application process and the all-important essay drafting. Scott and the people at Blue Train put the boys on a very manageable schedule and in fact, both of our sons were totally done with most applications by Thanksgiving. Both boys got into tons of schools, got thrown tons of money, and this entire process was so smooth because of Blue Train's guidance. We event consulted with Scott when deciding which schools to attend. I cannot say enough how effective and impressive Blue Train was. Highly recommend !!!

This could not have been a better choice, as working with Avi Lidgi proved to be what I needed to take the next step in improving my score. After working with Avi for three sessions (three weeks), I was able to improve my GRE score by 13 points (V158 Q159 to V166 Q164) into the 90th%s. While the resources and study materials were certainly useful, Avi's expertise on GRE-style questions and strategy for approaching these questions were invaluable in improving my score beyond what I could have done myself in this short period of time. Many of the questions that I considered highly difficult became simplified and approachable under his tutelage. During the test, this saved me many precious minutes to check my logical reasoning in both the verbal and quantitative sections. As such, I highly recommend Twainstein to any individuals or groups seeking improvement in their GRE test scores. The test is an excellent opportunity to anyone seeking to advance their education, and this test preparation organization offers an exciting way to achieve even greater success.

TLDR; Twainstein was quite possibly one of my greatest finds on Yelp. Highly recommend for GRE…read moretutor services. Money well spent. Over the past year I decided to pursue a career change that would require taking the GRE (/ hiring a tutor) and getting accepted to grad school. Being budget conscious, the first thing I noticed was that Twainstein's services weren't cheap, in fact they were wayyy out of my price range. However after doing some research, reading some reviews, having a pressure-free consult with Avi, and deciding that the best investment I could make was in my education, I made the leap. Best. Decision. Ever. Over the course of a month and half, Avi and I worked together to improve my confidence and test-taking strategy/abilities (Dare I say i'm no longer afraid of fractions?). He was patient, observant and tailored our sessions to my needs. I put in a lot of effort inside and outside of our sessions, and he did the same for me. I also really appreciated his routine checkins, his availability, speedy email responses, and his comprehensive approach to the exam. If you are slow to learn, have a LD like myself, or just lack the confidence, please don't let that deter you from taking the exam! You can achieve your goal score like I did with hard work and proper guidance, which is why I highly recommend Avi and his team.
