We decided to try Birch's on the Lake for Restaurant Week. My wife ordered one of the options…read morewhich was Roasted Cauliflower Gratin with Gruyere, Truffle Oil, Parmesan, Shallots, and Cream. She said that it was one of the best versions she has ever had. For a main course, she ordered the Short Ribs with Mashed Potatoes, Baby Carrots, Peas, Cippolini Onions, and Horseradish Cream. She said it was excellent, but could only eat about half of it. She also ordered one of the house-brewed beers and I agree that it was fresh, cold, and excellent.
I ordered from the regular menu and had the Barbequed Chicken with BBQ sauce, roasted corn, spicy Fresno peppers, red onion, 4 cheese blend, chili lime crema ($21). It was HUGE and I could only eat half of it, but it was excellent. Kind of spicy and kind of sweet, but overall balanced flavor. And very tasty!
This left us with a dilemma. My wife's Restaurant Week menu also came with dessert, but we were stuffed. However, they packed up the Chocolate Stout Cake with salted caramel buttercream, Sebastian Joe's vanilla bean ice cream, and warm fudge sauce. I thought it was overly sweet, but it had good flavor.
The view from the windows at Birch's Lake is unsurpassed. There is a great view of the lake and the shore had beautiful trees that were in full autumn colors. I am sure that this view is impressive in all four seasons.
The service was excellent. We went relatively early and the restaurant had plenty of room (we had reservations). However, even though it was a Tuesday night, by the time we left, the place was packed.
The only reason I didn't give this place five stars was that the menu didn't have the variety of items I was hoping for. It seems like there are more options over the weekend, so I recommend checking out the menu online before you come. And be sure to make a reservation!
