No need to pick up another Ninja Turtle or Bratz Doll (hmm, what ARE the kids playing with these days?) for your kids, nephews, nieces and babyfriends on their birthdays. Bring them here. Do crafts. I don't have kids of my own, but stopped in yesterday to see what this place was all about. I was pretty impressed with the high quality, natural toys and the menu of hands-on craft activities. I would've loved this kind of thing as a kid: making birdhouses, things out of felt, playing with a wooden menagerie of animals, throwing glitter on everything (including my friends), etc. As someone who isn't very crafty as an adult, I find this kind of space and resource to be inviting because it means you don't have to clean up the messy wake of a child's artistry. Just dust the glitter out of their hair and head home to your clean-ish dining room table.

At the time they were near 50th and Penn in South Minneapolis. They've since moved to their current location on Lake Street. From the Web site, it appears that despite the relocation the business is under the same ownership/management. As such, I highly endorse their craftsmanship and expertise. In particular, I brought to them a couple of large oil paintings on raw canvas acquired at an open art fair. They had been rolled up and were a bit frayed around the edges. Despite the less than pristine condition, the works themselves were striking and needed just the right frames to make them really pop. I couldn't be happier with what they suggested and the work performed. In each case, the canvas was properly stretched and mounted with stunning results. The custom frames were not inexpensive. However, given that the paintings were purchased for a song and after framing were near-museum worthy I was more than pleased. I also brought in a few works that my son and daughter had made over the years in art classes. They were painted on medium quality art paper and were somewhat fragile. For each I chose simple metal frames with non-glare glass. I was very happy with the matting and mounting at comparatively modest expense. I was surprised to see that thus far CBF had received no Yelp reviews. I'm glad to be the first. I hope others with similarly favorable opinions will follow.

It was supposed to be used for our Zombie costumes, but I brought my dad along for the ride and he got himself a sweet vintage-inspired hat and mustard colored jacket for the Yelp's Drive-In party that night. I didn't get a chance to check out the old location, but the newer location is on the ground level and two doors over. It was kind of small but the place isn't crowded. They had a decent selection of Halloween costume stuff and great hats, jackets and dresses for theme parties. The only problem is that prices have gone up. The jacket and hat were $13 after rebate. I remember a day when that probably would have been the price or lower without any coupons. It's still affordable though. Check them out! The customer service is great too!
