My car was towed while in my OWN parking spot simply because my permit was not on top of the dash board, but clearly still visible from the side window by the console. This is a clear scam tactic used by a mutual agreement between the apartment complex and this towing company to make profit off their residence. It cost me $360 for the tow which if ASTRONOMICALLY high compared to most tow companies. I live only 2 blocks up. I was extremely nice the entire time and didn't give a single problem or attitude when I picked up my car because they said "if you can see the permit from the window we'll most likely drop the charge", so we walked over to my car and I pointed it straight out to them only to be met with a follow up email that my appeal was denied. I went to out of town for 3 months to help with family matters, during this time my apartment complex inforced a new policy that you are to have an issued sticker visible in your windshield, if not you will be towed. Legacy Towing "ACCIDENTALLY" towed my vehicle from MY PARKING SPOT AT MY APARTMENT complex where I have lived for the past 2 years even though I HAD A VISIBLE PARKING PERMIT on my vehicle. I went to my car this morning to drive to work, and it was gone. I almost made a police report because I thought my car may have been stolen. I called Legacy Towing multiple times around 8am and no one answered- the phone would sit on ring for 10+ minutes before anyone would pick up. Two times someone answered and hung up on me before I even said anything. Finally, when I got a hold of someone at Legacy Towing, they told me they impounded my car last night. The reason they stated for towing my car was that I did not have a parking permit on it which is false- I had a visible parking permit on the vehicle. They admitted it may have been a mistake on their end and that I need to pick up the car from their lot to get it back. I was late for work (due to my car being towed), and I spent over $50 in Ubers to get to work and pick up my car from Murray. I spent over an hour driving to pick up my car, waiting in line at the lot, and then driving back home. They did not charge me to release my car, since it was an accident, but I feel there is no excuse for their action. I never got an apology. This whole situation caused me extreme stress. They wouldn't even tow my vehicle back to my apartment complex. Nor did they offer to reimburse me for my uber rides. If Legacy Towing would have simply checked for the parking permit, this would have never happened, and they brushed it off as if it was not a big deal. This is a HORRIBLE business. read more

Got my car towed from the visitor parking at Turnberry apartments in Millcreek at 12pm. The sign was hidden behind a bush. I was there for less than 3 hours before getting towed. I then went to pickup my car. I payed $370. $201 for 1 hour of towing (the lot was less than 10 minutes away). $12 for a fuel surcharge (from turnberry apartments to the Murray legacy towing which is less about 7 minutes away) $40 per day storage fee $75 after hours fee. As I was asking basic questions the man said "this isn't 100 fucking questions" I then asked if I had to sign the paper even after I had payed. I have been towed twice since moving in (May this year) out of the parking lot with the parking pass in the car because my expensive legally purchased parking pass fell on the passenger seat of my car... STILL VISIBLE THROUGH THE WINDOW. After the first time, the same employee fully aware of the situation towed my car yet again and I could see the pass in the car from 20 feet away. I work at a community center for lower-income and had to pay almost $900 in fees as well as losing two work days trying to figure out how my car disappeared from the place I live. When I called the towing company they stated that they didn't see a parking permit in my car so that's the reason why it was towed. I let them know that towing the car without warning was against the apartment complexes policies and that a paper warning should've been issued prior to towing the car that was only sitting overnight. They made light of the situation & ignored the fact that they failed to provide a warning prior to towing the vehicle. The towing company stated that it's an issue I need to take up with my apartment complex & not their company. Prior to picking up my car, which was towed prior to 9:00am (that's when I found out it was towed), the company was very rude about how I would go about picking it up. They kept stating that my name would have to be on the registration of the car & if it wasn't then I wouldn't be able to pick up the car. That wasn't a problem, considering it was my car with my name on it, so I had no issues there. My only complaint is that even though my car was towed illegally, I still had to pay $300 to get it back from the towing company. Came home from my overnight shift this morning to find a vehicle in my assigned EV parking spot. Called Legacy, as they patrol my apt complex. 730 am. Told me I need to speak to my management company, so I did, they put in an order to tow from my spot at 8 am. I run an errand, come back at 1050 am, tow truck is driving away - no vehicle. I call and ask why he didn't take the vehicle. "Oh, because he forgot the fob for the gate, he's going to get it." I say, "well, if you call him to come back I'll let him in." I'm literally watching him drive away at this point in time, mind you. Get put on hold for 3 minutes and when she comes back "he's already on his way to another call, he'll come back after." So because the driver forgot that he needs a key fob to get into a gated community (no way, right), I now have to stay up another 2-3 hours for him to come back to get a car out of the spot I pay 100 bucks a month for, so I can charge my car to get to work on my overnight shift. What a bunch of rubes. Probably not going to be there when the tow guy comes back, which means they'll think it's fine and park there again, and I'll have to deal with this another day. I just moved to Utah and have been wondering "where are all the bad people?" Well, now it's clear: they're right here at Legacy Towing. I was towed without warning and they used a dolly to tow my AWD vehicle (an obvious no-no. Google it.) The towing resulted in a broken rear axel differential, which cost $1700 to repair on top of their already over-the-top $400 impoundment fee. I then contacted them to get their insurance, and they dismissively told me to get a lawyer. They've been unbelievably horrible. But given that they already have just one star on Yelp and Google Reviews with countless people talking about their unethical and predatory practices, I'm sure they won't care and will simply go back to preying on people. read more

I can't comment on their initiation of the tow at a property manager's request (public plaza, conflicting parking signs at either entrance, signs identifying some stalls as requiring registration or tags but no identification of what stalls do/do not require it). I can comment on their predatory pricing. 1) the tow charge for a few miles is ridiculous 2) add on an exorbitant fuel surcharge 3) storage fee for 3 hours storage between drop off and pickup (a full day's fee of $40) 4) credit card processing fee of $11.49 but they don't take AMEX 5) admin fees of $40? Has no one addressed these contracted towing company charges with the state? Well, I'm going to. The legislature is in session. My first stop will be the Libertas Institute. I can't imagine a single parent coming out to a towed car (deserved or otherwise), facing these charges, and having to choose between food, rent, or this.
