After I grew tired of the traffic getting into SF during weekday mornings, I started scouting some local South Bay salons for a suitable replacement. I found a place called Kittiez. At some point, the name of the business was changed to K-Studio and the owner Kayla moved on to other ventures. I continued going back because there were still a couple stylists there that I trusted with my hair. They moved from their El Camino and Fair Oaks location to Salon Republic off of Murphy Ave in downtown Sunnyvale. It's all about the stylist, and in this case, I've been getting my hair cut by Paulina for a few years now and I've always been pleased with the results. She's super nice and down-to-earth. It is a bit hard to make an appointment on short notice, usually need at least 2-4 days in advance. This is because there are only two stylists working there at this point. But if you know this ahead of time when you book your appointment, you shouldn't be disappointed.

She even offers suggestions on different ways that I can change my hairstyle. I'm very happy with her and the general haircut is still cheaper than places like 18|8 or Paradox Barbers. None of the workers spoke English, which meant the translation was poor from the very start. Because of that, they basically did not do at all what I asked for. I explicitly requested to take off 4 inches, but they chopped off 7 inches instead. For reference, my hair was down to my waist almost and straight across so I was looking forward to getting some nice layering and a decent trim. (I attached my reference photo vs what I actually got). My hair that I took so long to grow out is now super short. To make matters worse, the whole styling process felt very aggressive and frustrating. I honestly felt like I was being thrown around in the chair and manhandled. They repeatedly poked me in the face with their fingers when moving around my hair and the comb kept getting very close to my eyes... When I finally saw the results, the layering was so uneven it was shocking. I wish I had a better picture, but when I got home I was so saddened by the haircut that I cried out of despair and started aggressively cutting it myself just trying to fix it. As…read morethey are appointment only, you have to reach out by calling them, but I tried to text them, since the signal in my area was pretty bad, not really expecting them to reply. To my surprise, they replied to my texts and it was very easy to set up an appointment. I showed up on a Wednesday evening (around 4pm) and was promptly served. They washed my hair, followed by a haircut, then another wash, then perm, then wash, then another follow up haircut. Needless to say, they were very thorough and they also even provided snacks and water. This was a good experience and I would definitely come back if I'm looking for a korean perm in the area. I've gotten korean perms in the south bay, Korea, Singapore, Taiwan and Spain, and I would say this was one of the better experiences (albeit, I am also paying bay area pricing).
