To be fair I waited until I had been to Lefty's 13 times to write this review. I think it's 3 out of 5 or OK. I'll break it down for you if you want to know why but the bottom line is it's wildly inconsistent and the bagels don't have the chew and the crisp skin I'm looking for. I've tried Onion, Salt, Tzitzel, Chocolate Chip, Cheese, Garlic, and the Bialy. The bialy the first time in May 2023 was the worst one I've ever had. It had holes in it and the onion was burnt and bitter. When I had a second one in December 2023 it was much improved. I find the cream cheese to be fine except for the garlic flavor. The day I tried it it was very thick and tasted like someone dumped garlic powder in the cream cheese. I'm mainly going for the Bacon, Egg, and Cheese sandwich because that's what I have enjoyed the most. I've had it at least 7 times. Sometimes it's sliced in half and sometimes it's not. Sometimes it's very greasy and sometimes it's very dry. Sometimes the bag has a hand stamp and sometimes the bag has a sticker. They almost never put napkins in the bag. If you order the sandwich plus another cold bagel they will sometimes pack it in 2 different bags and throw one bag on the table without the other. Always need to check! I like the idea of online ordering. At the beginning I'd order and get a text 5 minutes later my sandwich was ready. This is great because I live about 5 minutes away. The last 2-3 times I placed my order and arrived about 8-10 minutes later and they haven't even printed my order or started it. One time they were just standing around and another they were bagging bagel chips. What's the point of ordering in advance if they don't start cooking the food before you get there? Love lefty's! My lunch sandwich was fresh, with thinly sliced beef (so good) and it's something about that potato salad that I LOVE (I just wish the side was larger than the tiny container). LOVE that they serve choco chip bagels twice a week (I wish it was every day since panera stopped selling them) and the service is always impeccable. There are a couple of patio tables and some seating inside but I usually take it to go because it can get pretty busy during the lunch hour. It's a 45 min drive for me but I am definitely a fan and looking forward to trying to pizza bagels next! read more

Good poppyseed bagels. Good pastrami. Only disappointment was that the menu on Yelp! indicated a pumpernickel bagel was available. Pumpernickel was not an option when I was there (it was back on the menu on my third visit). Service was friendly and quick. The deli only had a handful of tables, but all was clean and well maintained. I returned a couple of days later with my wife for the breakfast bagel options. Wife had bacon, egg and cheese on an egg bagel. I had sausage, egg and cheese on an egg bagel. We both enjoyed our choices, though I will say the sausage could be more heavily seasoned. I saw this place on TV so we traveled here on a Saturday morning for a bagel. Walking in a heat wave hit us - their air conditioning was broken or something. They had a fan blowing hot air around. The line was long and they got or order wrong - toasting one of our bagels instead of just slicing it. The bagels were good - but the environment inside was less than pleasant - the lack of air conditioning in the summer is too much to handle. We might try this again sometime in the future when their HVAC system is working for a better experience. read more

On a mission to find the best bagel in St. Louis, I found Lefty's. Check out their IG/social media for a cool look into how they do things - the bagels are fresh and legit East Coast style. They aren't quite as dense as most bagels around here thanks to the process they use. The bagels are thick though "shorter" or a little smaller than others around (like from Panera etc.) but flavorful. Very cool options including the Tzitzel bagel which is covered in cornmeal. Lots of cream cheese and sandwich options as well, including basics like egg and cheese. They forgot to give me my side (coleslaw) with my to-go order so I was bummed about that but not a major deal. They have their base flavors and then an additional bagel of the day which was chocolate chip that day! I got an egg salad bagel which was pretty yummy. read more

Stopped in for a late breakfast/early lunch on a Wednesday. Friendly counter staff, willing to answer any questions. Had an everything bagel, toasted with a schmear. First, the ok part. I'm used to the "good Ol' days" and get a bit of heartburn (pun intended), from a $4 bagel. But pricing was fair, especially given current markets. The toaster didn't really toast it. A second pass..better. Toasting shouldn't just warm it up. The bagel itself was very tasty. The crust was not as chewy as expected from a classic NY bagel. But flavor wise, it was good. Yum yum in my tum tum. The breakfast sandwich with corned beef is excellent on an everything bagel. It was exactly what I needed to wake me up on Saturday morning!! My friends recommended this place and they were spot on. Their cream cheese is also apparently amazing though I didn't get to try it this time around. Parking is plentiful as it is located in a little strip mall. Not a ton of seating indoors but we were able to grab a spot for our group. A larger space of their own has allowed for expanded varieties and quantities of their wonderful bagels ... and now they offer a menu of breakfast bagel sandwiches as well as more traditional Jewish deli lunch sandwiches, including roast beef, turkey, corned beef brisket, and, of course pastrami. We tried the corned beef and pastrami sandos today - both extremely delicious, lean meats on heavenly bagels, with fine Cole slaw, potato salad and kosher pickle slice. First off, this business model of a deli/bakery with specialty sandwiches is kind of a dream business of mine. The smells are incredible when you walk in the door. The staff are warm and welcoming with plenty of suggestions to help a first timer. I landed on the New York New York sandwich on an everything bagel. I finally got my act together in the morning to head out before work to grab a bagel sandwich. I got the bacon, eggs, and cheese. After much debate I chose a plain bagel for a baseline. It was a great choice. As my personal preference, I'm not into chewy bacon. So next time I will ask for crispy strips. The online ordering was easy peasy. Then you just walk in (it's a cool space) and grab your order from the end of the counter and you're on you're way. No pics because I devoured that sandwich parked in my car. So when I have a craving for bagels it is a craving that I never ever pushed to the side. So when I got up this morning while visiting St Louis I wanted a bagel with locks and cream cheese. So I got on the internet and please recommended. Now you have to realize that I once lived to New York so I had the best bagels in the world and ever since then I will only eat certain bagels. In California the only ones that I eat are from Izzy's and now I have found this place and I am in love. The Bagels and cream cheese are all blessed by a rabbi so I know they're kosher. Lefty's opened about a month ago in Chesterfield and we finally had a free morning to check it out. We got there around 8:00 on a Saturday. There wasn't a line so we were able to order at the counter right away. I wanted my sandwich on an onion bagel but they were already out. We were told it would take a while because they had to "cook it in the back". There are just a few tables and they were all taken, so we stepped to the side to wait. And it did take a while. There was a slow, but steady stream of people coming in. After a while, there were a number of us waiting for our food. The place is small, but clean. There's a cool piece of art on one of the walls - I should have snapped a photo, but I disnt My husband ordered the L.E.O. on pumpernickel. It had lox, sautéed onions, an egg and cheese on it. (There are a few cheese options.) He likes the sandwich but said the lox was VERY salty. I ordered the bacon, egg, and cheese on a plain bagel and it was fine. Someone did walk around and ask the people seated if everything was okay. There was a lot of activity in the back, but it still took a while to get orders out. I'm not sure I've ever waited so long to get a simple sandwich in a not very busy establishment. When we go back, we'll order ahead of time online. To our surprise there was not enough salmon to level a small teaspoon - 4 or 5 razor-thin pink slivers almost the size of the fingernail on one's smallest finger and tasteless. I started buying bagels at Lefty's after the Bagel Factory shut down and they opened. It was very inconvenient to only be able to buy Cinnamon Raisin bagels on certain days. I put up with that but then I complained that the number of raisins had dropped to almost none, in some of the bagels. The response was that they don't always get mixed up in the batter. I finally gave up and stopped buying from them. I tried, with hesitation, a company out of NYC and I am on my second order of a dozen bagels. The price is just a little more than Lefty's and the 2 day shipping is free. The picture below compares their bagel with Lefty's. Sorry, I will not be back to Lefty's. I don't buy a lot of bagels but getting them shipped in is simple and they are great NYC water bagels. I really was excited for leftys to open but have had nothing but horrible experiences there the four times I've been. I have held off writing bad reviews because I know it's not nice to leave a bad review and I honestly love supporting local businesses. But I have had it. How hard is it to get a simple order right ? We ordered 2 salt bagels and an everything bagel with cream cheese, to go, got home and one of the bagels is plain. They don't have their recent opening as an excuse any more. They never get it right. Last time I was there I ordered a salt bagel, not toasted, with chive cream cheese. I was dining in. The owner brought my bagel and I said, I think this is plain and I ordered salt. (I could not see the salt.) He said "the salt melts a little when it's toasted." I said, "oh I didn't want it toasted, but that's ok. As long as it's got chive cream cheese in it." THE OWNER PUT MY BAGEL UP TO HIS NOSE, snelled it, sat it back down in front of me and said "it's chive" and walked away. GROSS and by the way, definitely a health code violation. Great, real New York-style bagels here. We came in for lunch at about 11:15 and ordered carryout. They place was really busy when we arrived, but not much when we got our order. Looked like we hit the tail end of a rush. A lot of orders were also placed online for carryout, which made the wait a bit long but about right for the number of orders coming out. There were only 4 or 5 tables inside - the place is really built for carryout, and that's what most do. A/C was out, so it was a bit warm inside with a fan blowing air, but not unbearable. The three sandwiches we ordered were really good. Lox o' Love (Freshly baked bagel with Nova Lox and plain cream cheese), Pastrami Lox (Freshly baked bagel with Pastrami Smoked Salmon and plain cream cheese), and Turkey sandwich. All were ordered on everything bagels. Those descriptions above come from the menu, but don't accurately describe the sandwiches. You get to choose your type of cream cheese - we both went with garlic herb which amped up the flavor. The lox bagels also included capers, with the Lox o' Love also having tomato, very thinly sliced onion, and pickles (if I remember correctly). All condiments and cream cheese were both generous and tasted fresh. For the turkey bagel sandwich (which had a tall stack of sliced turkey), mustard was the requested condiment, again generous - but not overly so. The lox and pastrami lox were well prepared. I first discovered Lefty's amazing bagels when they were only sold on weekends at a bakery co-op. The line would trail around the corner and sell out within an hour of opening. These are authentic New York style bagels that are kettle boiled and baked fresh every morning. Now that they have their own storefront the Lefty's experience has only gotten better! With a full breakfast and lunch menu including fresh sliced deli meats, eggs, and smoked fish! The unique sandwich choices are fabulous! There is also choices to take home bagels and schmear for Lefty's at your leisure. Just to top off the awesome new locally owned family business, the owner Scott is an absolute treat and is always wearing a contagious smile.
