Our first view walking into the tipi made my heart sing. Beautifully decorated inside. It has a kitchen area with electricity. They have an electric teapot. Perfect for a spot of hot tea. I brought a cooler with plenty of frozen water in ziplock bags for cold drinks. I made cocktails every night. Next the tipi has a wood burning stove. And a whole bunch of already chopped wood. We have a wood burning stove at home so we brought paper and pine cones with a bag of sticks just to make it easy starting and keeping fires going. We needed and loved the wood burning stove. Kept us super cozy for our whole stay. The bed was super comfy and they had plenty of blankets. My favorite was the cool lighting they used. I just felt like we were in a fairytale. Outside there were chairs around a fire pit and we sat out under the gorgeous stars and made s'mores. During the day we went around town and played mini golf and tried out a few restaurants. There is lots to do around town. There is even a trail in the woods on the farm. Oh yes. When you enter the tipi they have a book you must read to know everything about your tipi experience. After that we hung out in the hammock. So calming watching the trees sway while listening to birds We like staying when it is a little chilly because there are less bugs. There is no running water. So there is an outhouse. But it is great because it is clean and has a mirror. They also have a solar shower. I'm not the biggest fan just because that water is kinda cold to me but it certainly made it a hilarious memory. My suggestion do not add much soap. I did shower every night and felt clean and refreshed after the solar shower. My husband is not a camper but he loved this. We both had a fantastic stay. Oh one last note. I prefer very quiet while sleeping so I always bring earplugs. You are in nature

I would recommend planning your tipi weekend during warmer months, unless you're lucky enough to bring someone who will wake up every hour or two to keep the fire going when temperatures are in the teens. (Also, bring extra blankets.) I think the fire would keep the tipi pretty dang warm when temperatures are in the 30s and 40s, but below freezing you'll have to put a little more effort in to be comfortable. All of that aside- this was still a five-star experience and a memory I'll never forget! You can pull your car right up to the tipi which makes unloading things easy and convenient for locking up your valuables when you go explore. The Eagles Landing Tipi had a really comfortable queen bed and a pull out couch. I loved the decorations around the tipi. The pot belly stove gets hot enough to cook all your meals, you just may need a little bit of patience. The tipi has just about all the cookware you could need, but my travel companion/personal chef was glad he brought his own cast iron skillet. If you can see in my pictures, he was able to cook quite the feast with everything provided. Washing the dishes is a little tricky since the sink isn't very deep, but it all worked out. There is an outdoor shower and an outhouse. I've never seen an outhouse so nice though! I know that is weird to say and I forgot to get a picture. They really paid attention to detail when decorating each part of this rental. We didn't use it, but there is also a place for a fire pit outside. There isn't any wifi, but I was pleasantly surprised to have cell service all weekend. It was still more fun to be off the grid for a little bit though. The tipi is on a farm property which means there was basically a petting zoo just a short walk away. They ask that you don't go into the fenced areas, but all the animals were happy to come over to get love (or more likely to eat food if we had any to give them). There were trails to explore behind the property and lots to do in the surrounding area. Grocery stores are nearby if you forgot something and several restaurants if you don't feel like cooking. I recommend visiting the Liberty SnowFlex for a hot chocolate and front row seat to the sunset. There are a ton of trails that branch off from there as well. We did start to run low on firewood, but they were happy to bring us more before our last night. No complaints! This was such a cool, unique experience. I hope to return one day!

My husband and I like to hike so on our recent visit to Roanoke we started exploring options. We…read morelearned that McAfees Knob is the most photographed spot on Appalachian trail. We were a bit nervous about an 8 mile hike, but decided we were going to take it on. That hike was no joke, it kicked my butt. However, I did it and I am not someone in amazing shape by any means. There were some very steep/uphill parts and some stretches that were mostly flat. Trail was well marked. I was happy for the variation and we stopped as needed. It is doable, its just long. They say it takes you about 4 hours, which was accurate for us as we arrived around 10am, finished about 2pm. We did the AT trial up and decided to go for the fire road (runs basically parallel but isn't as strenuous) back as we were already tried. I highly recommend this if you not a serious hiker. Most everything I read kept saying you need to get their early as it gets so busy. That wasn't our experience, but it was an unseasonably colder, windy day so that probably deterred people. We also went on a Thursday to help reduce crowd as recommended. Note there are no bathrooms near parking. We found an outhouse near one of the camping sites about 2/3 way up, which we were grateful for. I am not sure it is being maintained regularly, so bring your own TP and hand sanitizer. Now, the view once you get to the top is absolutely beautiful. You can see out so far while you sit/stand on the rocky overlook. I even slowly inched my way out to the very tip of the rock to get the full 360 view. Breathtaking! We brought some snacks to eat up there to replenish (do this) and enjoy the views. We didn't stay up there as long as I would have liked as it was quite cold with the wind when we no longer had the tree cover. Dress appropriately! After we finished the hike, we took a long nap at our Airb&B. I am not sure I would choose to do it again, but I feel very accomplished that we completed this trail and enjoyed the views and our picutres very much.

I thought it would be empty on Thanksgiving, but it was pretty crowded. We got a parking spot just fine, but the lot was fairly full. The hike is rated as strenuous, but I thought it was moderate. It's about 4 miles to Mcafee Knob from the parking lot making it 8 miles round trip. We took the Appalachian Trail on the way there and the fire road on the way back. The fire road is flatter and wider--an easier hike overall. Parts of the AT were covered in leaves making it a bit hard to hike. Everyone says the last mile is hard. It's uphill but I didn't find it to be too steep. The views at the end are gorgeous. Luckily it wasn't too crowded and we didn't have to wait to get our picture. We didn't stay at the top long because it was incredibly windy which made it pretty cold even though the rest of the hike was comfortable. The whole hike with stops took us just under 4 hours. With views and difficulty combined, we thought it was a great hike!

The beach was immaculate and we were the only ones there. None of the shops were open but that was fine. It is shallow and roped off so perfect for my small children who are inexperienced swimmers. No lifeguard on duty so keep a watchful eye. There are sand showers for when you leave your shower off the sand. The area is beautiful and it is private. Two playgrounds, cabins and yurts for rent. A perfect way to spend the last day of summer.

Anyone thinking of leasing a lot at this campground please read this review as well as others and…read moretake them seriously. I am the type of person that can get along and tolerate must anyone. However the owner of this campground is a toxic and horrible person. I've never met anyone like her....ever and hope to never again. My experience in just 3 months was a nightmare and I don't want anyone else to experience what my family and I have. On 4/11/2020 my family and I purchased a camper that was already located on a Site there. We paid 6 months lot rent in cash, for which the only receipt I was able to get was a handwritten one that I wrote up and had her sign. She refuses to give out a written lease and she doesn't give out any rules. She makes it a point to go from sight to sight gossiping and bad mouthing everyone in the campground to people that are renting. Anyone that you talk to there will tell you that they do their best to avoid her and basically hide or go the other way when they see her coming. If you rent there you will constantly stay on pins and needles worrying about what she's going to go off about next. She always references her "rules" when demanding something be done her way yet she does not give out rules and regulations. I was able to let everything roll off until she had a conversation with someone on 6/11 stating that "Had she of known my husband was black she would have never rented to us". (We are an interracial family). She then repeated that same conversation to someone else on 7/7 .She also added to it that when our lease was up she would not be renewing it due to the fact that my husband was black. On 7/12 we have a recorded conversation between her and another person in which she admits to saying what she did. She claims "it's her campground and she can rent to whoever she wants to". That's how she justifies it. She is a thief and will lie straight to your face. On July 11 I informed her we were leaving and pulling our camper out. She told me if we left before our lease was up she would pro-rate the rent and give me back the unused portion. On August 1 we tried to peacefully pack up and get out of there. While we were busting our butts taking down decks she continually harassed us throughout the day and then also refuses to pro-rate the rent and on top of that is going to lease the lot out before our lease is even up! This campground should be shut down because of how it's run. Any landlord who would make remarks like that and having no clue that it's ILLEGAL and against Fair Housing rules to even make a statement like that doesn't deserve to run a business. Run from this place as fast as you can. Don't let the cheap rental rates suck you in like it did to me. It's not worth it!

While filled with RV's there are barely ANY people around. Which leaves the things that are open looking like a wasteland. Half of the lots don't have power, roads are VERY wonky. Horrible service throughout the campground, with only one building providing wifi and it honestly looks like it's for, despite being called the "activity building" there's three functioning rooms, a big empty room with few tables and a ping pong table with no paddles and a ball, aswell as a lounge with a tv that would be nice if it wasn't so dirty.
