Our party of 8 rented 3 rooms here after a day on the lake. We were texted our key code to check in - completely contactless check in and check out. Our room was clean and cool with a really nice bed and extra soft sheets. Super fun patio with a gas firepit that our group enjoyed hanging out at in the evening. Easy walk to yummy Jake's Place next door. I was surprised to see my credit card charged several days before our stay - but maybe I missed that in the fine print. Old and scratchy sheets. Tried to get out of staying there once I saw it. The owner refused to give me my money back.

I have had nothing but a horrible experience dealing with this hotel. Last year (while attending a family event) when my husband and I stayed at this place, the night we checked in all the electricity went out in our room. We had to sit in the dark for close to an hour while waiting for someone to provide us with a key to another room. The walls are paper thin so no one was able to get a good night's sleep. This year when I cancelled a reservation it took 20 phone calls and voicemails to get my refund. The place must be run on a shoestring with bimbos running the place. I do not recommend this place to anyone. read more

I really enjoyed my stay here. At first, I was worried and didnt know what to expect because I love really nice hotels because I travel a lot. A bad hotel stay can totally ruin the vacation. This place was really charming and a great place near the lake. The rooms were very basic but clean. I only wish that they came with an iron. The grounds were pretty and well-maintained. I love the fire pits and the grill outside. The customer service was excellent. Both Melanie and Jim were great to work with. My boyfriend lost his Samsung tablet and they did everything in their power to help us find it. I will definitely return on my next trip to SML. read more

We stayed recently (June 2021). Bathroom was extremely dirty around the outside bottom of the bowl and the floor was "black" with dirt. The floor in the room was also very dirty (our bare feet were black). Deck had debris on it and we asked for a broom (which we had to sweep). We did not have a maid card and had to use a post it to ask for service. Had to shower without a shower curtain because all "staff" was gone when we arrived. We got a shower curtain a day later. I was stressed the entire visit (4 nights and paid over $700 for this unclean, Covid 19 pandemic still around room). It was apparent that sanitizing conditions were not present at the Halesford Harbor Inn. The footboard on the bed sticks out so much that my left upper leg was totally bruised from walking around the bed. The television didn't work and we asked for help, but didn't get it. We figured it out the last night of our stay just by chance. The wall switch near the entry door (far away from the TV) had to be in the up position. Who knew??? The gal at the desk, Susie said she would contact the manager. The manager ( we still do not know who that is) was not around and when we asked for help we were told she would call us back. That was another issue ... we never received a phone call with our complaints until after we returned home 8 driving hours away. Sondra said she doesn't know if she could help us with a refund or partial refund since we had to clean the bathroom and sweep, and that she wasn't the manager either. She said the manager would call us back. To date, we have not received a phone call or even an apology from Halesford Harbour Inn Resort. Do not recommend staying at this place. We had to stay since our family gathering ten minutes away from this resort had been planned for months, and there was no other rooms available nearby. Four rooms were booked there because of our recommendation ... embarrassing and upsetting to hear our family complain to us about the lack of clean rooms. The location is really good, however, especially since most reputable hotels are concerned about health and cleanliness, especially now, the room we were in was not acceptable. Why aren't there more reviews on this site? Have they been deleted? I hope mine is not deleted. Anyone who cares about their health and their families' health should not stay here. We never saw a maid our entire stay. They knew our names, and gladly accepted our payment, however, "they" still have not disclosed the name of the manager or owner. or apologize for us having to clean, etc. This resort did not live up to its reputation as a resort/inn. This resort/inn does not care about its clients or their well-being. read more

We stayed here the first time in June of 2014, and had a lower level room facing the lake. Beautiful view, great staff, clean room, and incredibly relaxing. Now we live at SML, and can thank HH for it. We stayed there once a month from Aug 2014 until May 2015 for our weekend house hunt, and never once had a complaint. Every time we went it just seemed more like a home away from home. Sitting on their back patio overlooking the lake is where it all started for us. If you want a comfortable stay at SML w/o renting a house for a week then come here. read more

We stayed 4 nights and never had a maid enter our room. We had to supply our own toilet paper, paper towels, Kleenex, soap, shampoo and conditioner when we ran out. Our towels were never replaced, our sheets were never changed. The trash was never taken out. The floor was covered in sand and debris and was never vacuumed. The window was so dirty I couldn't see if it was sunny or cloudy. The beach was dirty with rotting leaves and trash everywhere. I would never consider staying there again. read more

Halesford Harbour is Smith Mountain Lakes newest RV park, Motel, and Restaurant. Nicely done! They have a 24 hour gas dock, boat rentals, boat slips, and more..Jakes Place is a great restaurant. They have everything a family needs to make the most of their Smith Mountain Lake vacation. read more

As a repeat customer, we were once again treated very well by the staff, from house keeping to management, we felt like we were the most important guest. The improvements to the rooms are noticeable. We love the ability to keep the boat, jet ski at the dock, while being close to the heart of lake activity. Clean, pleasant we'll run business. read more

We rented a boat for 2 days from here. Steve, one of owners, helped me on the phone with the reservation and was extremely nice. We rented a pontoon boat and it had some engine problems (it kept stalling). We called Steve and he met us at our dock and traded out the old boat for a bigger and better one. In addition, they gave us a very generous discount for the hassle. My husband is a farmer and we understand that you can't always control mechanical problems so we don't blame them, but we greatly appreciate how they took care of us. We will definitely be renting from here again! read more

We stayed in the cabin last night and loved it. We were pleasantly surprised by the smell of rustic pine walls and decor. It was meticulously clean, well stocked and overall a great place to stay. There is a loft above the main floor that would be great for kids and also a pullout sofa in the living room. It could easily sleep six people. There was a screened in porch that overlooked the private beach and the view was spectacular. The beach was kept clean and there was not a bit of litter or trash. Check in was quick and efficient and the man at the desk, along with the man with whom I made the reservation, was kind, helpful, and accommodating. We could not have liked this place any better. My family camped out here for a few days. When we arrived we were greeted by Tom who showed us to our camping spot then gave us a tour of the campground. The grounds are very well kept and the bathhouse is spotless. There are plenty of amenities ranging from a beach with slide and water toys for the kids to a full restaurant/bar. We were hoping to rent a boat for the day but they were all sold out. Totally understandable given the short notice. We eventually found a boat for rent at the Westlake Waterfront Inn. I highly recommend Wendell there, he runs the place. The only negative thing I have to say about the campground is that the sewer hookups for the RV's are not in a good location. All in all, I highly recommend this place. read more

This place is remarkable! The hospitality of the staff, the details in cleanliness, and the beauty of the grounds all exude practical perfection. We arrived and checked in with the manager. He was awesome! Friendly and so knowledgable about the area. We went down to the water front and sat in chairs on the beautifully landscaped stoned patio surrounded by many beautiful flowers. We enjoyed a bottle of wine and relaxed next to the gas fire pit. When we went in the room we noticed that it was very inviting and tastefully decorated. The cleanliness was surprising. So clean! Even on top of the full sized refrigerator and cabinets where one would expect light dust and dirt.... There was none. Even our mattress had a "fully encased" mattress protector. Thanks for that. That detail made the room feel that much cleaner. We loved the fact that we were able to dock our boat right outside our room at no extra charge. Very nice to get straight up in the morning and start boating. Great stay on the lake front. We will definitely return. read more
