First time ever at Lee's. Food: Chicken was very hot and batter was tasty but overly salted. The chicken drumsticks (no thighs at the moment) we're so overcooked that they chewed into a pace immediately, although it was tasty. Probably not nutritious having burned all the vitamins out. Green beans were very good with a smoky flavor, especially palatable for fast food, a dark green instead of muddy khaki green and as is typical, overcooked, but not to the extreme, as some other chains too. Biscuits were average. 3.75 overall for the food, boosted by the green beans. Atmosphere: pretty typical fast food place but clean with comfortable seats in the booths. 4.5 overall. Service: Very fast paced with cars lined up and parking lot almost full. The order taker seemed a bit overwhelmed and rushed, maybe frustrated, especially since my girlfriend could not see the overhead menu. She mistook my Dr pepper order for a mountain dew, which I had asked her for after looking at the pop selections. But she brought our food to the table, cleaned it when she noticed it was dirty before setting the food down and that gives her points! 3.5 overall. read more

Visiting to city from Cincinnati for a basketball game and stopped for something to eat before getting on the highway. Well, I went through the drive thru and sat for 20 minutes the car in front of me was already sitting when I came around, so I don't know how long they had already been sitting. I sat for 20 minutes, by this time I'm pretty tired of waiting then finally we moved up, then the young lady at the window had the worse attitude which made me even more mad that I wanted to pull off. Drive-Thru is switched over to some AI system that pesters you for an order and records your voice for their use without permission. Employees inside were threatening to beat the crap out of each other the entire time I was in the store. They got my order wrong. Lee's has gotten very stingy. The employee told me they were giving too many gizzards in a large box so they switched to a cup. The price is too high for all their food and sauces. Thank God Canes is coming to Lima. They appreciate your business and don't treat patrons like thieves. read more

I was hungry for chicken and was in the Lima area so I figured I'd stop here. It had quite a line but it moved quickly. I asked if they had the new chicken sandwich because I'd received a couple emails about it and wanted to try. They did so I ordered that along with the 4 wings meal and some sides. I ordered the rice and beans and actually liked them. I've only ever tried them at Popeyes and thought theirs was terrible or that I just didn't like rice and beans. I do like them from Lee's. The "new" chicken sandwich was two chicken strips on a bun. I'm not sure why I've gotten emails about that ‍ I didn't eat the bun because my attempt to eat while driving resulted in a mess. It was chicken strips. They're good, but it's not a sandwich that's going to compete with other chicken places. The cole slaw was terrific, thank goodness! If it wasn't good I'd never go back to another Lee's again, it would have been my tipping point. Imagine my disappointment though when I get home and see the ridiculousness of these "wings". The biscuit in the picture isn't large but it's bigger than any of the wings. They're the size of an infants hand, if I'm being generous. If you're in an area that this is your only option I can see being stuck with eating here. But in an area with a lot of options, I'd definitely choose one of those. Great meal after a long day! The family meals are the best:) I've never had tea from a bag, but that iced tea was great! Perhaps there could have been a few more fries in each box, but overall the serving size was just right. I just loved that coleslaw, it was sweet but not too sweet:) The overall service was great...we tried stopping at the other location here in Lima, but it was chaos. The remodel/updates in the dining area give such a welcoming atmosphere. There is plenty of room, especially for families. First I would give less than a 1 star. Today was the second time I placed an online order. My first experience was with the Allentown store, horrible service. The online order was not ready on time had to wait to make the order and it was missing items. I was refunded. Today placed the order online again for the Bellefontaine Rd store. Picked up the order. The employee "double checked the order". Returned home to find that the chicken and gizzards missing. Back to the store to get the missing items. They gave us 4 extra pieces of chicken for the inconvenience. Nice but all other items were sitting out cold . The quality and service has declined. Lived in Lima my whole life. While on a northbound trip to Michigan, we began looking for a place to stop for lunch other than the usual choices you find along interstates. The girlfriend hit up the Internet for some starting points and Yelp for some suggestions and the Lee's reviews got her craving fried chicken Based on her research, it seemed like there would be a lots of variety at the restaurant that's not what we experienced (more below). Food: As a disclaimer I'm not a fried chicken connoisseur and rarely visit fast food type chicken joints. Despite my extensive lack of knowledge of chicken, I can definitely say this chicken was good! It was explained to me that they pressure cook it and, while I don't know what that has to do with anything, it definitely works here. We both got 2 pc combo which comes with a side of your choice and a biscuit (and its cheap $2.89)! Trying of fake a bit of health consciousness, I got the red beans and rice while she got the mac and cheese. I will say that while the chicken is tasty the sides we had were lacking. In fact, my red beans in rice were flat out disappointing as compared to the New Orleans namesake and I didn't eat it. My girlfriend said the mac-n-cheese was exactly like KFC's. The biscuits were fine but smallish. Also, in the car we saw that they offered several cooking styles including "famous recipe", "crispy + spicy" and "over roast", however, once there I didn't see any of those on the menu board. I studied it for a long time because I wanted the oven roast version so if it is there, I'm blind. Like most chicken places, the menu also includes multi-piece boxes for larger groups, there are sandwiches, chicken wings and apparently they are known for their gizzards...I took a pass. 3 stars for food (kudos on the chicken itself, minuses for the sides and not being able to find the cooking styles). Service: after studying the board and approaching the counter our service was fast and friendly with our food being ready in barely a minute I think. 3 stars for service. Value: is excellent. our two combos plus two ice teas came less than 9 bucks. 4 stars for value Atmosphere: were standard fast food layout but bright and clean. They even had Thanksgiving decorations out. Bathrooms were clean too. 3 stars for atmosphere. Due to the fact that I'm not much of a fried chicken guy, I'd probably go with something else if I was local but the chicken itself is good and very nicely priced. After eating at so many chicken shacks over the years, Lee's Famous Recipe is THE BEST! The skin on fried chicken is so bad for you, but tastes so good! The gravy for the mashed potatoes is so delicious I will drink it out of the foam container like its kool-aid. I have to order the cole slaw on each visit, as it is sweet and finely chopped. The baked beans are savory and the biscuits are fantastic right out of the oven. If you are feeding your family, this is a affordable place for everyone to fill up. My only knock to the place is the sweet tea. Its "ok", not nearly as good as McDonalds sweet tea. The Lee's tea has too much of a sun tea flavor. I would love to see them add a sweet, cornbread. This is a chain but not a real well known one. There about 140 stores usually dotted in smaller cities in the midwest and south. Looking for some fast food chicken? Short answer: you won't go wrong picking up Lee's. So who is Lee? Well he was Colonel Sanders nephew. He actually helped his goateed, string tied uncle develop his secret receipt in the 1930s. Later he went into business himself, starting his first store here in Lima. ( the original store no longer exists.) Here is the difference between Lee's and KFC: Lees is much more smoother and saturates, in my opinion, into the meat where KFC has a noticeable spice bite that sits on the skin. I really can't say which is better, they are just different and it will depend on your mood: an introspective Lee's or an outgoing Colonel. The only weakness is that sometimes meat quality and density can lack, KFC is more consistent with this. Like KFC they have white meat and drum sticks, mash potatoes and other sides, biscuits, and other chicken dinners. Of course this is not Nashville perfect chicken. All I've heard since I moved to lima was Lee's had the best chicken. So sad. I've never been so greatly disappointed in my life. If this is the best fried chicken then I guess I'll be frying my own. If the chicken had been fresh maybe just maybe it would have lived up to its reputation. The chicken I brought home to feed those helping me move was so dry it actually was chewing tree bark. Another hometown restaurant that I visit every time I "come back home". I grew up eating here all the time with my mom and little brother. I have a teenage son that surprised me on our last trip when he said "I have to have Famous Recipe". Sounded like me when I was young! Too bad there isn't one where I live now. It's so much better than "the big national chain". The chicken is richer with more flavor and the mashed potatoes and gravy are to die for. A word of advice: If you choose to eat here, do NOT go in the ladies restroom - the nastiest restroom ever!! I could hardly eat for wondering how the kitchen was after experiencing the restroom- I will never go back here again! The rest of the restaurant looked bad also! I know there are Lee's outside of Lima, and they suck, but for some reason the ones in Lima are really good.
