They were able to reschedule my appointment to allow for my husband to come along, and then they weren't rude when I had to cancel his last minute (he didn't tell me he had a meeting when I made his appointment!). It's a little tricky to find because it's in the side office attached to the Lenscrafters and the office itself is rather small. But it's clean and cozy. They know their stuff about your eyes and make you feel comfortable, even when your eyes are dilated so badly you can't stand light! I know most people only go to the optometrist once a year but I think this is the place I'll go, once a year!

Our child started saying she couldn't see the board at school and unfortunately, we didn't have her…read moreon our vision insurance because she's never had any issues so I decided to bring her here for her first eye exam mainly due to the commercial with the 2 pairs of glasses WITH an eye exam for $79. I set up an appointment over the phone the week prior. The man on the other end of the phone was pleasant and got us set up quickly. Upon entering, we were warmly greeted. The lady who greeted us was already working with someone and had to stop to then help us get the iPad with the medical history and whatnot set up. It appeared there were only 2 people working. All the initial tests (the puff of air one and a few others that measure your eye) were all preformed by the same lady that greeted us, Michelle. She was very friendly and patient with a kid who has never experienced those tests before. We were informed that there is no eye doctor on site, which was a shocking statement to say the least, considering we were at the "eye doctor." I wasn't sure I was comfortable with this set up but texted my husband that maybe we do this here this time and get her on our insurance for next year. The virtual eye exam was... interesting. The eye doctor was on a screen (think similar to a Zoom call). She controlled the machine that tests your vision. Unfortunately, she had a strong accent and both my child and I had a VERY hard time understanding her. She's say something and it took a few moments to process what she said. I still have mixed feelings about not having an actual doctor on site doing the exam. (I asked if any other offices did have a doctor on site and a couple do, just not this one.) Nonetheless, our daughter had a lot of fun trying on all the frames. They do have a VERY large selection. The deal going on now was 2 pairs of glasses and eye exam for $79. All the other glasses are BOGO. So my daughter found one she liked for like $119 and another that was on the 2/$79 rack. Michelle informed us that kids get the polycarbonate lenses for free and we'd just need to pay like $45 extra for some anti glare coating on the 2nd pair. But when it came time to checkout, the total was like $300-something. I was SHOCKED. Well... if you buy any of the frames other than the 2/$79, you have to pay a $100 fee to have the lenses put in. WOW! But, if you get the 2/$79, you do NOT have this additional fee... so I had my daughter go pick out another 2/$79 frame instead. (I wasn't expecting a $300-something bill.) Luckily she LOVES both her (cheap-o) frames. Both pairs were ready to be picked up within about 30 min! That was quick! We liked the hard cases and the lenses cloths that came with them. Lastly, I'm not 100% sure of the quality. While looking at them once we got home, there are areas around where the lenses meets the frame that look cheap. Hoping they hold up. I opted to not get the additional insurance for $50, considering they were only $80 to begin with. Well... can't beat the price. Even if she breaks one pair, we have a backup... and at least they weren't $400-600 pairs. Like I said, this worked for us this year and isn't a bad deal if you don't have vision insurance BUT I don't think we will return. We like to have an actual doctor looking at our eyes and answering questions we have.

They got my insurance information over the phone, so everything happened as quick as lightning. They do no sell frames here! You get sent over to EyeMasters next door to pick out your frames. This actually makes the entire process much faster. I had 2 new pairs of glasses 1 hour and 45 minutes after stepping into Master Eye Associates. I just had to pick them up before the mall closed. :)

And to you, the clinic, my hope is that you amass any sort of usefulness out of understanding, from a patient's perspective, the issues that you create for your patients by the way your office is being run. First things first: money. They charge you for an eye glass exam, even if you only need a contact lens prescription. That will run you 150.00 even with insurance, which I had. They WILL NOT give you a prescription after your exam. I remember the first time there, I nearly had an argument with the front desk girl because she flat out refused, multiple times, to give me a copy of my prescription. I told her I wasn't going to leave without one, because I certainly just paid dearly for it. She made me wait until another patient was seen fully (I was on my lunch break) until she talked to the doctor about giving me a prescription. They will make you return, time and time again, because they will grossly get your prescription wrong, repeatedly. Which is what I did. But I wasn't given a prescription after every exam, again. And that was the start of my problems with this office. Finally, I just had to flat out tell them my last contact order prescription and asked them to simply match it (SHM) because I couldn't keep taking time off work to drive there for another exam only to get the temporary contacts that I couldn't see out of and no prescription - they have zero regard for your time. Finally, I called to ask for my prescription to be emailed to me, like every optometrist I've ever been to in my life! Easy request, right? Not with these guys! They somehow managed to make even that difficult! They state that it's a Hipaa violation, which is code for "We don't want to go through the trouble of getting a secure email account, or have you give email consent, so we will just site "Hipaa violation" to make you go through more headache." But they will fax it to you, because, you know, let me dust off the old fax machine AND find a flipping landline. It's NOT a Hipaa violation, because they could have easily gotten consent with a simple paragraph and signature during your exam. They simply choose not to. What they choose to do instead is put that burden on you, the patient - They make it your problem. There's a difference: someone may possess the ABILITY to do something, which they do....but they lack the WILLINGNESS to do it. (By the way: What doctor's office doesn't have a secure email account or set up a patient portal?!? Wow, that's not a hard thing to expect from a doctor's office. What do they use? Gmail?!? FFS) Just like every other part of their process, it's just difficult (and expensive) when it shouldn't be. What it IS though is an FTC violation that states that after EVERY EXAM a patient MUST BE PROVIDED with a PRESCRIPTION....wait for it....EVEN WHEN THEY DIDN'T ASK FOR ONE! Major fail across the board. During my last conversation with the doctor, I expressed hope that they do better in the future...and I truly hope they do.

They now have an amazing room dedicated to treating dry eyes using some sort of pulsed light machine on our lids. I can't wait to set up an appointment for that. Just didn't have enough time, but I will be back. Time to get my dry sore eyes some treatment. We got to take care of our eyes since we use it all the time. She is also very passionate on helping myopia treatment for the young kids. It's hard to find a doctor that can do it all and this one is the one. I don't have kids but I'm going to have to tell my friends.

Communication is our biggest obstacle between client and business and vice versa. We don't think about what could be happening behind the scenes and we aren't able to make adjustments that can fix a situation if we don't communicate. I absolutely love Dr. Somji, he really cares about his business, his staff, his clients and the product he produces. I have trusted Horizon eye care with my vision since well before Dr. Somji became the owner and will continue to do so. When I changed health care companies it was my intent to use my insurance but knowing my doctor and staff was much more important to me. Thus I come back. The selection they have runs the gamut and I must say plays into my vanity. If I am going to wear glasses I at least want to look stylish. We change our clothes with the season, why shouldn't we change our frames too. Glasses are a necessary evil but our eyes can't be replaced so I trust mine to the best.
