This turned out to be Dr. Bagaason and, much to my surprise, he and his staff gave me the most relaxed, stress-free dental visit I think I've ever had. The practice is small (I believe Dr. Bagaason is the only practitioner there) and the facilities look a little run-down but all of the equipment seemed new and clean. Dr. Bagaason was very friendly and thorough in the exam and actually explained to me what he was doing, telling me about problem areas without lecturing or making me feel embarrassed. He also never pressured me into buying any products or unnecessary tests, which I appreciated. His assistant Diane was fantastic as well - her friendly demeanor made me feel immediately at ease, and she took great care to make sure I was comfortable and that she wasn't hurting me (which probably wasn't easy to do when my gums were so inflamed). All in all I can't recommend this dental practice highly enough. I doubt I will ever enjoy going to the dentist but I know that I won't dread going back to this place, and that is a huge relief!

Generally I like this dentist and his office staff. However a recent experience has caused me to…read morelook for a different provider. I went in for a regular cleaning and checkup. The hygienist finished the cleaning then asked if it was okay to update my X-rays. Normally I would say sure, but I hadn't planned on the extra time and really needed to get to work so I politely declined the X-rays (that I wasn't told about before appointment). The dentist then comes in and says he won't do the examine without X-rays and would only "allow" the cleaning (which had pretty much already been done anyway) as though he was bestowing a gift. He made me feel stupid and embarrassed. The hygienist ASKED me (gave me an OPTION) if I wanted to do X-rays. When I OPTED to say "No" they made me the bad person because what... I chose wrong? I don't like trick questions and they were basically blaming me for them not telling me before the appointment that they would need more time than usual to do X-rays. Like I said. I generally have liked this dentist, but the attitude I received this time really left a bad taste in my mouth. [Sorry... bad pun]

First appointment scheduled with Dr. Umberger as leaving my previous dentist. I did so based on two…read morefriends' recommendations. Requested an afternoon appointment in a month explaining that I live out of town and afternoon works best. I needed dentist appointment as well as dental hygienist. Unable to schedule both on the same day. Fine with me. So, mind you. I am new to them and yet, a few weeks later, they call me recalling I live out of town and they can now schedule both appointments in the afternoon on the same day. WOW! That was my first clue that I had chosen the right place. So, my appointment. I first meet with an assistant who takes great notes and is very friendly as well as warm. Then a full head of X-rays plus photos. Done very gently with care and concern for my comfort. (Did I say what a dental phobic person I am?) Then, dentist time. Dr. Umberger listened to the assistant's summary of me and my mouth. He also showed respect, consideration and great listening skills. He actually looked in my mouth, probed a bit and we made plans for my future dental care. The hygienist was gentle, knowledgeable and kind. Now for the next time, a filling replacement. That's a final test for all of us!

Then he quickly moved to sign me up for two crown replacement. I could only do one at the cost of nearly $800. It took him 50 minutes to fit the crown in my mouth by taking "just a little" off of the tooth above it, three times. I ran from him and his snooty assistant as fast as I could.
