BUYER BEWARE! $4,000 CAR PURCHASE TURNED INTO AN ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE.
If I could give ZERO stars, I would. Please read this before trusting anyone associated with this business with your money. I have screenshots, messages, and DMV receipts to back up my experience.
Earlier this year, I purchased a 2017 Nissan Sentra for $4,000 from Saldana Guillermo, who was listed as the registered owner of the vehicle.
What should have been a straightforward private vehicle sale turned into weeks of unnecessary stress, unanswered calls, unprofessional behavior, additional expenses, and a complete lack of accountability.
RED FLAG #1: THEY TOOK MY $4,000, BUT I COULDN'T EVEN TRANSFER THE CAR INTO MY NAME.
When I went to the DMV, I discovered that the seller had signed the title incorrectly, left nearly the entire required paperwork blank, and failed to provide a bill of sale.
THE DMV REJECTED MY PAPERWORK.
So there I was, $4,000 out of pocket, with a vehicle I couldn't properly register in my name because the seller hadn't completed the necessary paperwork.
I originally purchased the vehicle through Facebook Marketplace. When I attempted to contact him, his Facebook page had disappeared, leaving me with no way to reach him through our original conversation.
Eventually, I discovered that the address listed on the vehicle's title was actually the address of his workplace -- THIS BUSINESS.
RED FLAG #2: GETTING SOMEONE TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY WAS LIKE PULLING TEETH.
I called the business and spoke with a woman who assured me she would put me in contact with him.
SHE NEVER DID.
Days passed. No call. No update. Nothing.
I eventually had to involve family members just to try to establish contact with someone who had already accepted THOUSANDS of dollars from me.
After approximately a WEEK of getting absolutely nowhere, I called again.
This time, the woman on the phone was unbelievably rude and disrespectful. Her attitude toward a legitimate issue was completely unacceptable. I had the call on speakerphone, so other people witnessed how she spoke to me.
At that point, my uncle had to call and warn that we would involve the authorities if the situation wasn't resolved.
Think about that. We had to bring up LAW ENFORCEMENT just to get cooperation with paperwork that should have been completed correctly at the time of purchase.
Only THEN were we finally told we could come in the following day.
Unfortunately, that conflicted with our work schedules. I explained that we could come over the weekend and asked them to confirm a time.
IGNORED. AGAIN.
We showed up that Saturday anyway.
And the best part? When we arrived, everyone seemed completely clueless about the situation, as though nobody had communicated ANYTHING.
I even had to pay additional money for a last-minute mobile notary to come out because the title correction documents required notarization.
All of this could have been avoided if the seller had handled the transaction properly from the beginning.
RED FLAG #3: SURPRISE! $212 IN UNPAID CITATIONS AND PARKING TICKETS.
After FINALLY getting the corrected paperwork, I returned to the DMV, relieved that this nightmare was almost over.
WRONG.
My registration and title transfer costs were significantly higher than expected.
Why?
Because the vehicle had $212 in outstanding citations and parking tickets from the previous ownership period, associated with the vehicle while Saldana Guillermo was the registered owner.
These were NOT tickets I accumulated.
These were NOT expenses I agreed to take responsibility for.
And yet, I WAS THE ONE WHO HAD TO PAY THE $212 TO COMPLETE MY DMV TRANSACTION.
These questions were asked at the time of purchase and was given information that did not match what I later discovered.
I am still owed that $212, based on how difficult it was just to obtain correctly completed paperwork, I have little confidence that I will be reimbursed voluntarily and may have to take it further
RED FLAG #4: IMPORTANT VEHICLE SAFETY ISSUES WERE NOT DISCLOSED IN THE LISTING.
As if everything else wasn't enough, the Facebook Marketplace description also failed to mention some extremely serious issues with the vehicle.
* The passenger seat belt was locked.
* The airbags had deployed and were not functioning.
These are not minor cosmetic flaws. These are serious safety concerns that ANY potential buyer deserves to know about BEFORE purchasing a vehicle.
I had to discover these issues myself during my inspection rather than being informed about them in the listing.
AND THE MOST FRUSTRATING PART? THE COMPLETE LACK OF ACCOUNTABILITY.
I wasn't asking for special treatment. I wasn't asking for a favor.
I was asking for correctly completed paperwork for a vehicle I had ALREADY PAID $4,000 FOR.
Instead, I dealt with repeated unanswered messages, rude communication, unnecessary delays, additional expenses, and ultimately unpaid citations that became my problem. read more
