I purchased a 2012 Jeep Wrangler from this dealership for around $18,000. During the sales process, the staff was very friendly and welcoming to the family. I was told the vehicle came with a 24-month / 24,000-mile powertrain warranty, and I was reassured that if anything went wrong I could bring the vehicle back and it would be taken care of. Unfortunately, my experience after the sale has been the complete opposite. After driving the Jeep only about 2,200 miles, the vehicle broke down and had to be taken to a Jeep dealership for diagnosis. I was then informed that the vehicle needs a major repair to the powertrain wiring harness, which is estimated to cost about $5,000. Despite the fact that this issue involves the powertrain wiring, Berkeley Honda has refused to help with the repair and claims that the issue does not fall under the powertrain warranty. What has been even more frustrating is the lack of communication and accountability. When it was time to sell the vehicle, everyone was very responsive and helpful. But once the problem appeared, that support disappeared. Calls have gone unanswered and emails have been ignored. I have only made three payments on this vehicle before this major issue occurred. Now I'm facing a $5,000 repair bill on a vehicle I just purchased, and I've had to take BART to work while trying to figure out how to afford the repair. At this point I am filing complaints with the California DMV and other consumer protection agencies so the situation can be reviewed. My advice to anyone considering buying a used vehicle from Berkeley Honda: * Have a trusted third-party mechanic inspect the vehicle before purchasing * Carefully review what the warranty actually covers * Do not rely on verbal assurances during the sales process I regret trusting the promises that were made during the purchase. I took my 2017 BMW 430i to him for a second opinion so-to-speak after the dealer quoted me over $12,000 for the work. They did a diagnosis on my car and were very real with me with what it actually needed and then gave me a very , very fair estimate. I chose to do business with them for all of the above reasons and was incredibly grateful I did. I went on a business trip and left my car there to have all the work performed while I was out of town. I was shown all of the new parts that were original BMW parts, and he explained why we were going to use original BMW parts. When I picked up the car he showed me all of the old parts they took out, the condition they were in, and explained each piece to me and the why behind needing to replace it. I've never experienced anything like this with any repair shop I've used in the Bay Area or here in Elk Grove. Again, I could not be more impressed with the level of professionalism, communication, and transparency. I was literally blown away. On top of all of this communication, I received photographs before and after the repairs were completed, as well as video - very much like a dealer would give you. Juan took extra time to go on the test drive with me when I felt I was experiencing a little bit of weirdness when I was driving it, and this is standard practice for this shop. Juan and his dad own the shop and clearly take pride in their work and know what they are doing. I would highly recommend anyone in the area or outside of the area take their vehicle to G and J as they are so incredibly knowledgeable and really take the time to make sure you are happy and satisfied with the work before and after it's done.
