This is truly authentic Mexican food. I asked if they make homemade tamales and found out that on Wednesdays and Sundays the owners wife makes fresh tamales. (I will definitely be back to try those.) There is some seating for eating in. They do not have a parking lot so you do have to park on the street or around the corner. Most of Manville is like this, but never a problem. I got takeout and ordered two orders of 3 beef tacos, yellow rice and pinto beans. My tacos had several layers, and the beef was very tender. On top came fresh chopped onions, and chopped cilantro, a jalapeño and grilled onions. The beef tacos were very good especially the grilled onions. The jalapeño was surprisingly very hot, but it gave a nice kick to the tacos. The yellow rice was fluffy, and the pinto beans had great flavor and were creamy. They gave me two types of sauces, salsa verde and a hot sauce. I really enjoyed my food. This is a mom and pop business, that I will definitely be returning to. This was our second time visiting, and we experienced many of the same issues as our first visit. The table service was poor, with our meals arriving at different times. By the time the rest of our food arrived, the first group had already finished eating. We also had an issue with a dish that included bone marrow. The wait staff came back to confirm that we had ordered the dish with bone marrow, yet when it arrived, there was no bone marrow. This same issue happened during our first visit as well. We advised the wait staff about the problem, but the bone marrow was still never brought to our table. Throughout the meal, no one checked on us to see if we needed anything, including water refills. What made it more frustrating was watching other tables receive their food promptly while we continued waiting. The experience was disappointing, especially because it was my son's birthday and he was really looking forward to having the bone marrow. All the combos come with either 1-2 scoops of rice and macaroni salad. My meal was pretty perfect for 2 whole meals for me. I ate the katsu with my leftover rice for breakfast the next morning! Because the kitchen is open to the dining area, I watched the cook handling raw chicken with a gloved hand while putting the chicken kabobs on the grill. He then continued using that same glove to assemble orders, touching pita and putting his hand into the lettuce. At no point did I see him change his glove. I continued watching because I honestly couldn't believe what I was seeing. Then I watched him put a raw piece of salmon on the grill and continue handling cooked food with the same glove. At that point, I went to the register and explained what I had witnessed. The cashier's response was, "Of course!" and she immediately yelled to the cook to change his glove. I calmly explained that the lettuce had potentially been contaminated through the repeated handling of raw chicken and salmon and should not continue to be served. We ended up throwing approximately half of our dinner away because we were no longer comfortable eating it. I was not looking to make a scene, and I wasn't even planning to write a review. But I feel obligated to share this because the cashier's reaction made me concerned that this may not have been an isolated or unexpected issue. The owner was not only open to hearing my criticism, but followed up on my complaints. He walked me through step by step what had happened, and said they are making tangible steps to improve the process. Based on this customer service, I will try the store again, with hopes that the improvements have been made. -- I bought a goat leg a year or so ago, and it was expensive, but I was okay with spending more for quality, and didn't have an issue. I recently came in to buy some more goat meat... I needed 2 lbs, but they only had 3 and 5 lbs packaged and that's all they were willing to sell, already packaged, already cut meat. I should have walked away then but I didn't. I bought the already packaged and already cut "bone in" meat. I've never before bought cut meat that was bone in, and when buying leg meat not stew meat, it's just plain weird. I am willing to pay more for quality, but I didn't get quality. The meat I bought was 1 lbs of bone, not usable for what I needed. So in reality I ended up paying not $13.99/lb but $48.55/1 lb and 13 ounces, a ridiculous price. I also feel a bit cheated, since when I weighed the meat it home, it was short by a good 1 lbs from what the package claimed. Now if the meat was good quality, that would be one thing. But the thing that really bothered me, and caused me to write this review, was the clear lack of care that went into butchering the meat. It clearly was not butchered at all, but sawed through, bone and all, into chunks. Bone dust was all over the meat, meaning I had to carefully rinse each piece to get off as much bone dust as possible. I know how to butcher meat, and should have done it myself, but this is just unacceptable from any place calling itself a butcher shop, let alone at these prices.
