In addition to luggage, backpacks, and briefcases, the store had lots of travel items and gifts.

Unfortunately the sale was only for the rack outside of the store and the rest of the merchandise throughout the store did not seem to be priced any different than retail. I will say the collection of bags they have is much wider than a lot of other boutiques I have been to. There are some familiar brand names stocked as well as some unique other brands. The staff is helpful and friendly. I ended up walking out with the large le pliage by Longchamp because they had a color stocked that I was having an extremely hard time finding. So as I said before, their range of collections is bigger than what you'd expect. I give 4/5 stars because the store was a little dim and wouldn't have really grabbed my attention if it weren't for the "sale" sign. Additionally, it seems more like a store one would go to when they have a specific item in mind; it's not a store with a huge selection of select pieces from numerous collections. It's more like a store with a few brands but stocks the whole collection.

In the past I have purchased all my Longchamps at Nordstrom only because I live right by the Natick mall, and I never really thought twice about it. I was on Loncahamp's website looking at the bag and clicked on "locate a store near you" Nordstrom came up so I called up and asked if they had the bag in stock. Turns out they didn't carry the bag. I then thought to myself.. I could buy it online...but then I might not like it. For such an expensive purchase I wanted to make sure I loved it. The other store that was listed was London Harness Company. I hadn't heard of them before, but I am very familiar with Wellesley Center so I thought I'd call them up. I called up and gave them the SKU from Longchamp and the man was very helpful in telling me that they did indeed carry my so desired bag. About 20 mins later I drove over and met the man I spoke with on the phone. The store was quiet and he showed me the bag. I tired on many colors and then decided on one. For such an expensive bag I feel I made the purchase the right way and am happy I supported a local store rather than a chain like Nordstrom.

On Friday, July 5th 5:45 I encountered a locked door (well inside the regular opening hours). This was the third time in a year that I went to Harvard Square in vain. Occasionally I need repairs. Leather World seems to be the only Rimowa option around Boston. A half dozen repairs were done okay, but not always on the first try. Often they leave glue residues inside and never make an effort to remove dents. I had repairs done in Frankfurt at the the airport and in Beijing with much better results.

Savvy-traveler items like a money belt; a clothesline for stringing up in your hotel room so you don't have to bring so damn many clothes or overpay for hotel laundry service; the world's best-engineered travel toiletry bottles (won't break or ooze open in your suitcase; you'll never need to buy another set after buying these). The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The last time I was there, a salesperson talked me out of buying a voltage converter so I could be prepared for every possible scenario on an upcoming trip, and told me that almost all electronics made within the last 5 years have built-in converters. Talking me out of buying things I don't need--now that's a store I'll go back to.

I visited the Jamaica Plain shop today with my brother, on what happened to be the 27th anniversary of my father's passing. What could have been a heavy, emotional day was transformed into something unexpectedly meaningful, thanks in large part to the experience I had with Jessen. He spent well over an hour with me, patiently walking through countless combinations of styles, shapes, and colors -- not rushing, not upselling, just exploring what really worked. He was thoughtful, kind, and extraordinarily knowledgeable, and it was clear he genuinely enjoyed the process of helping me find the right hat. That enthusiasm was contagious; time absolutely flew by. I left with a beautiful hat and a matching scarf, each with its own story -- down to where the wool came from and how it was made. That level of care and passion isn't something you can fake. It's obvious that Jessen and Andria care deeply about their craft, their customers, and the experience they create in the shop. This was, without question, the best experience I've ever had in a hat store. The selection is fantastic, but it's the heart, expertise, and hospitality that make Salmagundi truly special. If you're anywhere near Boston and even thinking about a hat, do yourself a favor and go see Andria and Jessen. I can't recommend this place highly enough.
