From the XL and Large baseline in plum and navy blue to the carryons for my husband and I as well as the toiletry bag, garment bag and backpack. I have the older version computer bag on wheels that had a mouse chew through it for one of my snacks and it was repaired flawlessly and for free due to the lifetime repair warranty. I love this store for the variety of fun travel gadgets and the lovable owners with whom we always enjoy a hearty laugh. Quality over quantity! Invest in excellent luggage and you can't go wrong! I don't know why this place is popular. I brought my kids suitcase in, my first time there. They were a tad rude when I dropped off. The repair was not good, I understood the wheel would not match but it was not stable meaning the wheel they used, the luggage tipped over not balanced. I paid 45 dollars for this. I would not recommend and I love supporting small businesses but the repairs they do are not quality and given the location I suppose the rent is high and maybe that is the reason but a place like that should focus on quality repairs and customer service to also back the prices. I wish I researched wheel replacement and tools and possibly attempted to fix on my own but we can't use the luggage and I don't want to have to argue my complaint to them because I feel it would be a list cause read more

Echoing many of the other reviews, the people working here are atrocious. I took my mother's luggage in for a warranty repair and when I called them on the phone to ask a question, the lady disparaged me for having dirty wheels. Yes, this particular piece of luggage just went to Europe for 6 weeks. Luggage is meant to be used. When my mother went to pick up her luggage, the guy working there chased her out of the store verbally assaulting her. I was there with my 8 year old daughter and we were very frightened by this behavior. These people work in the service industry. I can't believe they would treat their customers like this! This is clearly a pattern of behavior and you should think twice before supporting a business that would treat their customers in this way. read more

I was happy to find this store after they closed their shop in Harvard Sq. For its small size it has a decent selection and they carry my favorite brands-- Briggs & Reilly and Tumi. Sadly, the couple who runs (owns?) do not offer the same customer service. Arrogant for no good reason other than maybe they should just retire due to burn out. Incredibly rude staff. I emailed Leather World to see if they could repair a suitcase recently damaged by an airline. They were responsive and said to bring it in. When I arrived, one of the staff members immediately said they didn't fix that brand. I pointed out that I had mentioned the brand in my email and he was very dismissive. He said he would ask his repair person what they could do. He came back saying that they could make it better but became very argumentative when I asked for more specifics on what better meant. I said I didn't feel comfortable with the repair if they couldn't communicate what would be done. My luggage needed some TLC cause I didn't have the bright idea to bring the damage to my airline's attention before I left the airport. So I gave Leather World a call to see if they could give me a general ballpark quote given my situation that about 4 inches of the thread had come loose. The fellow answering the phone caveated that they have to see it for an accurate quote, but he said maybe around $25, and when pressed for a maximum, up to $35. If I bought it in, would they be able to tell me if it was a manufacturing defect, or if it could be fixed? He told me that they know everything about luggage. I visited them one day with my luggage in tow. Unfortunately, the fellow who would be doing the fixing wasn't there that day. I was given the choice of leaving it for him to judge whether it was fixable or not, and to pre-authorize him to go-ahead, or to bring it again sometime when he was around. I held off since my carry-on had cost me only around $60, but I appreciated their time and willingness to give me an idea of things. read more

Brought in a Delsey bag that had a damaged wheel (base was cracked) and zipper as Delsey told me they were an authorized repair shop and my bag was under warranty. The guy in the shop told me that those repairs weren't 'covered under the warranty and were normal wear.' I tried to ask the difference between normal wear and warranty covered repair but didn't actually get an answer. He basically told me that I bought a cheap bag (I don't consider $300 cheap but OK) and you get what you pay for. I didn't really want to argue as I had taken time during my workday to drive 30 mins to get there and was a bit rushed plus I didn't think I was going to get anywhere given the interaction do far. Their hours are only daytime during the week and weekends, parking is very hard on weekends which is why I chose to come during the week. I brought the bag back and reached out to Delsey to ask why they sent me in for repair if it wasn't covered to which they responded 'this is covered' and sent me a brand new bag no questions asked. Very frustrating especially because I love Delsey bags and they are the only repair shop in the state for this brand. read more

Quirky and friendly couple working in the store. I work for an airline and I asked about repairs to a handle that was broken. Michael, the owner, asked me to bring it in so that he could take a look at it but he warned me that TravelPro parts for the handle might not be available and they are taking a while to come. I told him that I would need it ASAP since I had to work a few days later. He told me that he'd take a look at it and see if they could repair it without that specific part needed. Well...lo and behold, the next day, Michael emailed me to inform me that my rollerboard was all repaired! I was amazed at how quick it was since he originally estimated that it might take a couple months for TravelPro to send parts. I completely recommend this small shop. To be absolutely fair they seem to have a good selection of products. However, their customer service is abysmal. I went to repair a zipper for my luggage. Just the handles. It should be no more than 20-30 US dollars based on phone communication with them on the phone. I commuted more than an hour to bring the luggage in and they asked for 60. Then, the person 'assisting' me mocked my English, my accent, and my intelligence as I question the pricing and how does it break down to parts, labor, etc. He denied to offer a detailed estimate claiming that the computer is not working and almost kicked me out of the store. I found this wonderful little leather shop , as I needed my new leather belts , I purchased in NH , needed more holes as I have lost weight , the owner was a kind man along with his wife, I had 2 belts adjusted, and notice that they had some wonderful leather good and some other gifts u can buy , The owner didn't even charge me for the work he had done on my belts . I went to Leather World while on a trip home to Boston. The wheel on my expensive Delsey suitcase broke in transit, and I found them on a google search as a place that fixes luggage. After a terse phone call with the owner, where he told me he couldn't tell me a thing without seeing my luggage, I brought in my suitcase. There was only one other person in the store, but the owner seemed irritated to have to help me, and reluctantly agree to fix the wheel by the end of the day - or maybe by the next morning - although I had brought it to him by 10 AM. He didn't have the right color wheel, but I was desperate as I had several more flights before heading home and needed it to work. The owner was unfriendly at best - though I'd say rude, if I was being unkind. There was also an older guy behind the counter who I struck up a conversation with while the first guy tried to figure out if he could fix my wheel in the back room. When I asked him basic small talk questions - So, do you work here? Are you from Newton? - he refused to answer any questions, and told me any information was on a "need to know basis". I guess basically what I'm saying is, they didn't seem to want me or my business there. $28 dollars later, the wheel was fixed - in the wrong color - no biggie, I guess - and then promptly broke off on my very next flight, the very next day. I read past reviews, but I have to say that wasn't my experience. They were friendly, easy to work with and the finished repair was great. No actually it was better. I have an expensive dog carrier with a zipper that was falling apart. They redesigned the way my carrier closed and it is now nicer and easier then the original designed. Unfortunately, Leather World's massive lack of customer care and respect lives up to the other reviews on here. I'd steer clear. My wife & I bought day bags here for a trip to Paris.* The selection's fair, high-end, and you won't look like you went shopping at Target as you roam around fashion's ground-zero. We liked the bags we got. The service is a bit on the snob side of things. When they find out you're only there to spend ~$100 on a basic bag (I was - my wife went a bit... higher end), they basically say "look in the back corner of the store", and move off the hustle someone else. That said... the bag we used was mine (because, well, husband = sherpa). So, her bag didn't see much use. That's important, because there's really no way one of the straps could have come unstitched due to over use - it wasn't used. When we got back, she reached out to the store to see if they would replace it, or simply cover the cost of the repair. Considering what they charge, that they should want a reputation for carrying quality merchandise, etc, it didn't really seem like that big of an issue. That's when things when south. Attitude. Huge attitude. Not returning a message, rude in person, etc. Implying she must have done something, so they shouldn't have to cover the repair (which, was a minimal cost). It became rapidly - and, dishearteningly - clear that this is a store that's happy to see you spend, but doesn't want to see your face if there's any sort of issue, and hates parting with cash once it has it in its hand. In a day and age when Zappos will take back _anything_, you'd think Leather World would think about getting a little friendlier with it customers. The irony is, I'm due for a briefcase upgrade - and, I've been told, I can make it my anniversary gift from my dear wife (splurge, in other words :) I came here to see what the best stores in the area were for a high-end, leather bag, and Leather World came up. I wasn't planning on writing a review, but after what my wife went through, my experience, etc... well, everyone likes to vent from time to time. Plus: they're not getting my money. Zappos, on the other hand.... just might. *As an aside, if you haven't gone to Paris, do so. Tomorrow, if possible. Stay away from Leather World in Newton. Not sure about the other stores, but the sales people are extremely rude. First, they try to push certain pieces of luggage on you. Usually, they are an odd color that no one would want to be seen with. When you don't want that oddly colored piece they are visibly angry with you. When we opted for the black bag, instead of the ugly green, the price went up 20% and the salesperson turned his back on us and didn't say another word. Mentioned my business needs to the owner who promptly pointed me to a versatile, well appointed brief with several main zippered sections and several more smaller zippered pockets that kept the promise that the brief could serve many and varied business needs. Beautifully crafted leather, quality throughout its many fasteners and zippers, sturdy shoulder strap and if you prefer excellent wheels and collapsible handle which collapses and locks allowing you to lift it into your vehicle easily and smartly. Asking some basic questions like "is this covered under warranty?" and "how much will this cost?" - seemingly reasonable questions for a repair - were answered with "is this going to turn into a test?" This is a small store (leading to congested shopping some days) but despite that they have lots of luggage and briefcases. I use it for birthday and holiday gifts and travel accessories. They have back and neck pillows and lots of take-on-the-plane travel accessories. They also carry alarm clocks, some reasonably priced gifts. If you are a fan of fine luggage or leather (including wallets), there is a lot of that too - I recognize many of the brand names - just isn't my thing... read more

This was without a doubt one of the worst service experiences I have had in years. I rarely lose my temper, but the owner of the store is one of the rudest people in customer service I have ever encountered and I lost my composure with the way he spoke down to me, and actually yelled at me for his mistake. I went to Leather World to have my very expensive leather bag repaired. All it needed was a screw replaced to put a metal piece back onto the flap of the bag (I even had the metal piece that needed putting back on)... a five minute job at most. I showed the bag to the owner and asked how long it would take to repair. He said four days. I told him I was leaving in three days for a trip and he said he would have it for me the next day. I asked him how much it would cost and he said 20$ which is quite expensive for the work needed, but I agreed as I figured they would do a good job. My trip was moved, so I called the store to tell them I could pick it up in two days and give them some more time. When I came into the store to pick up my bag two days later the owner told me my bag wasn't ready and then walked away from me like it didn't matter and I should just leave and come back. I told him I needed it back as I was going over seas the next day. Then he told me it was not in the store and that it was not his fault it wasn't done. He blamed me for not giving them enough time and said he didn't know where my bag was. I again told him I needed my bag back for my trip, and from there things went horribly wrong. He yelled at me repeatedly to the point that one of the store employees had to apologize for him. He ordered me to wait at the front of the store while he looked for my bag, and when I told him I would prefer to wait where I was standing, he yelled at me again, demanding that I move to the front of the store and away from the rear of the store where I could see him. At this point I told him I didn't want him to fix anything, and just to give me my bag back . It took him 15 minutes to find my bag, which was actually in the store contrary to what he told me... and then he had lost the metal piece I needed put back onto the bag! He talked to me as if I was garbage and acted like he could care less about my bag, my business or the fact that he had lost part of my bag that I now had to have replaced. That is the last time I go to the store, and would strongly recommend others avoid it... incidentally, I found a great shop in Vietnam on my trip that not only did the repair, but found a new matching metal piece, only charged be 3$, and did it all in an hour.... with a SMILE!! read more

Repaired an aged TravelPro at a fair price: $56 for a new zipper and to free up a sticky telescoping handle. The zipper color was a good match. I don't mind the Tumi pulls. Funny how a lifetime guarantee isn't. Still, my beat up bag is back in business. I like it because it doesn't draw attention to itself in lawless and impoverished areas. New shiny bags? I wasn't going to leave a comment here but I noticed that my experience pretty much sums up the rest of the comments I've seen here - both good and bad. I bought a Travel Pro suitcase set a while back from Bloomies. Years of use later, I found I needed repair and called Leather World. They pretty much cut me off on the phone to say they couldn't tell me anything until they saw the luggage. When I got there the owner acted like he'd never seen a piece of luggage in need of repair,. He could not tell me even ball park prices that he charged for repairs like a broken zipper, or a loose handle, and he seemed to have never paid attention to how repairs were made. He would not answer any questions. Every question I asked he simply said, I can't tell you anything - the technicians just fix it and then we'll know the answer to your questions. I explained that I was traveling at the end of the week and needed my luggage back by Friday for my trip. He said he'd have it done by Thursday which pleased me but I was extremely anxious about leaving my luggage with a store that couldn't answer a single question about my repair needs. He couldn't even let me know if my repair would be covered under warranty (Travel Pro has a very good warranty) and would not (could not?) let me know how much it would cost. I came back Thursday at noon. After waiting about 15 minutes while they searched for my suitcase I was told that the suitcase was NOT ready and that I should come back again on Friday. Several apologies were given. I came back on Friday and they handed me my suitcase. The handle (which had come off) was bolted (with a screw and nut) back to my suitcase with one of those round top nuts to cover the exposed screw. I told them that wasn't ok - it should be riveted - strong - without exposed screws and nuts that can come loose. He didn't say a word he just left with my case. I waited for about 20 minutes. Got my bag back and was charged $48 and was told only then that the warranty was not covered. I don't know their business but I'd guess that they don't make much money on repair, don't care about the business, and have become generally complacent about it. The woman there was nice - everyone else was gruff. To be fair, maybe they just give this treatment to people who need their luggage back in a short period of time (like a week?) While I waited, I looked around and noticed that they have a very good selection of luggage and the prices seem reasonable. TLDR: I recommend that you don't go to Leather World in Newton Center for repair. Gruff attitude, bad service, no quotes so you have to get your luggage repaired BEFORE you know what you have to pay to get it back. Won't answer a single question. I've gotten 3 bags there & they wear like iron! (Briggs & Reilly). The gentlemen there are helpful and professional. I travel a lot for work & always check my bags, so they are not getting TLC when out of my possession. Zippers don't break (even when I overpack--which is always). Leather World On Langley Road in Newton - Place should be out of business by now if customer service was the number 1 criteria to rate an establishment. Took my Briggs & Riley in for assessment of wheels that were worn and squeaky - any and all work covered under lifetime warranty. Returned 2 weeks later and 60 miles round trip to find they used some WD 40 to lube the wheels. When I stated I could have done that and didn't need to travel so far, pompous employee responded there were a lot of houses locally for sale so I should buy one and the travel time would not be as long. When I inquired why the wheels weren't replaced seeing how worn they were, I was advised that I could return when they break, and they would fix them. This joint is certainly not Brett's Luggage that has worked on my bad in the past. @briggsandriley - what a joke of a retailer and certainly has negative implications on your brand. Two weeks ago, I went to the London Harness at Derby Street Shoppes in Hingham, MA (1mile from my home) ready to purchase a Jack Georges briefcase I had seen on their website. I was told by not one, but two of their sales associates that the item was not in stock. When I asked if the could call the company and have it delivered in the next five days, I was told a simple "no, there is no way we could get in 5 days.". They wouldn't even make a phone call! I then called around and spoke with Shelly, at the Leather World in Newton Centre. Shelly's response to my question was, "Sure we can get it for you. The company is in NJ and I could have it here in 2 days.". Both the store and Shelly are top-notch and well worth the 25 min. ride! Shelly was so helpful and the briefcase I ordered arrived in 2 days, as promised. It's too bad that a company like LH could not even take the time to make a simple phone call and make the sale. It's no wonder they weren't able to keep alive their store in downtown Boston. A store cannot survive on name alone -- they've got to keep their customers, and they just lost this one.
