I was contacted by phone after the inspection and was provided a few options, taking into consideration the cost and how long I might safely go with only a half measure. First day I brought my car in, they ordered the part and told me it would be in that day and so I would be able to take my car home before closing. Later that week, the part finally came in but it was the wrong one. Told me they ordered a new part and would call me when it came in. It has been over 3 weeks since the wrong part came in and I have not heard from them Also the unofficial quote they gave me was under $100 and then on paper they quoted me over $500 so I am not sure what changed... Honest mechanic who saved us thousands by finding a crack/leak from Timing belt casing in our minivan and telling us that should (and is) still under the warranty. We took the minivan back to the dealership. Initially on the phone, the advisor in the dealership didn't believe the diagnosis. But it WAS the issue. It took the dealership couple weeks to have it fixed since they need to take out the whole engine to make the repair. I cannot thank Pat enough for being so honest with us. So my truck had a problem with the 4x4 not working and i called Leary Auto Repair. The person who I spoke with over the phone said they are really busy and just to go the shop and drop the truck off. I went to the place.Due to Covid they don't allow people inside(totally understandable) and there is a phone number on the front door, which I called and the office person answered the phone and she was very brief as well- " just drop off the keys at the box", nothing else. She also seemed kind in a hurry and wanted to keep things as brief as possible. I thought to myself, this guys are really busy. When I was about to drop off the keys a guy who seemed to work there said: "I'll take this from you." The guy was obviously working there and he also didn't said too much and then I left. I am like, this people are either very easy to work with or I should expect surprises. Unfortunately it was the later. At about 4:30pm they call me from the office and tell me the repair will cost about 1200$. After thinking for few minutes(I told them that I have to think about and then I called them back) I decided that I am not gonna spend that amount at this moment. Then they tell me that I have to pay for diagnostics 247$. And this is where the problem begins - I spoke with three different people from this company before I left my truck there and nobody told me that this will cost me a minimum of 247$, nobody. They actually told me that this is their standard price for diagnostics, its kind of "on the menu". So when I dropped my truck there they knew how much it was going to cost me and I didn't. I bet one can tell the difference. They were also trying to convince me that that's how all auto repairs are working. If they are doing this for something that minor one can only imagine what other practices they have there. read more

Pat Leary is the owner of Leary Auto Repair. He is one of the rudest, most defensive people that I've ever encountered. Luckily some of his repairmen are competent,sweet guys that help to offset Pat's bad behavior. As for repair work, suffice it to say that the timing belt in my car destroyed the engine because, for some reason it must not have been checked, even though I had the car serviced by them ever since I bought the car. If you aren't bothered by the owner's complete lack of personality and his bad temper, then go to Leary Auto. As for me, I will never return. read more

What a great, honest auto repair place. I received a recommendation about this place from a coworker who knows cars and said I couldn't go wrong there. He was right, Leary's was able to fit me in the same day I called (for a tire mount and balance). Everyone there was very friendly and professional. The mechanic who worked on my car was quick and efficient, the whole thing only took 30 minutes max. Probably another good sign about this place - while I was waiting, a state trooper came in to pick up his privately owned vehicle, you know they're not going to go somewhere dishonest. I brought my winter car here recently for maintenance and to diagnose an issue with noise coming from the rear. This place comes highly recommended not just through online reviews but also from people I know at work and in my neighborhood so they are very highly regarded in the Bedford area. They're honest and they do good work as they fixed my car and recommended some other things I should do in order to keep it on the road longer. They also keep a very clean and organized garage which was very impressive to see. The only thing I was a little surprised by was their part costs. They charge full dealer retail price for the replacement part I needed to fix my car's issue. For an older car like mine from 2004, I would have appreciated them trying to source a less expensive OEM-equivalent part, which I was quickly able to find by looking at places like Autozone and Advance Auto Parts. In fairness they did call me before doing the work with an estimate and I did give them the go ahead to do the work, so I could have declined, but it wasn't until after I got my receipt that I saw the the majority of the cost of the repair was the part. That said, I would recommend this place for maintenance because of the convenience and their good customer service. read more

I took a used car here for a pre-purchase check. The car was only 6 months old. I spoke with Pat on the phone and though he was really busy he took the time to answer my questions and even told me that I didn't really need the check for a car with 450miles on it. I wanted the peace of mind so I took the car there without an appointment and the team was nice enough enough to take a look even though they looked super busy. Bob took it up on the lift and did a look over, drove it around etc. The entire experience was quick and pleasant. I paid $30 and walked away at peace. I highly recommend this place.
