Earlier today I attended the Handgun Carry Permit Class with Dennis Mankin. Dennis is a very thorough and attentive instructor. We were informed about the laws and regulations of the concealed weapons permit, talked about different scenarios and how to handle them in the most safe and effective manner, not only to save lives, but to avoid putting yourself at a huge risk of criminal and civil liability. The class was educational and enjoyable. We covered a lot of material in a short period of time, but I didn't feel like I was bombarded with information. The mood in the classroom is serious but with some humor. I did not feel bored or disinterested during the entire class. Dennis gave each of the applicants individual instruction along the way and again wherever needed. He took his time with me and answered all my questions. I learned a lot about guns and proper shooting form today! I feel much more confident now and am looking forward to coming back to the range for more advanced classes... I just attended the Handgun Carry Permit Class with Dennis. I am a first time applicant and first time handler of....well...handguns. I am also a little hippy dippy but did not feel out of place here at all. Dennis is friendly. These reviews are accurate, letting you know he's consistently providing a quality class, rain or shine. My class took place during COVID, so I was fearing a group classroom environment, but luckily Dennis and team thoroughly sanitized the room, and only one person per row is able to sit. There is a lack of people going out to 'non-necessary' locations, so myself and one other applicant were at the class. I still feel we were given the attention in the classroom and on the range that is required to gain good confidence around general knowledge of handgun law and handling. I was able to rent a really awesome firearm and ammunition for $20. I enjoyed shooting on the range even though I am terrified of loud noises, the instructor was very calm and professtional, and I would recommend to anyone looking for their class. The only caveat is that this class is going to be long, it really will take all day, so don't show up late, and bring your gun application number! read more

My wife and I attended class with Dennis. My wife had never handled or fired a handgun previous to this experience and she learned a lot from the class and instruction provided by Mr. Mankin. He is able to teach the basics from safety to real world experience to newbies while also being able to keep those experienced shooters engaged and interested throughout the training. If you are a new shooter or an advanced marksman and considering a handgun permit for protection of yourself and your loved ones I would highly recommend Learn 2 Shoot Academy. Dennis is able to keep the class interesting, informative and light all at the same time. From basic handgun handling to aiming and targeting he covers it all. In every regard Mr. Mankin is a dedicated professional who conducts himself accordingly at all times. As a professional ex law enforcement officer with over 20 combined years of experience I found Dennis to be one of the better firearms instructors I have trained with. Dennis was a great teacher. The class and qualifying make for a long day but, Dennis made it easy. He made it fun and informative. A couple students in the class purchased their guns just days before the class and one had not even ever shot the gun before the class and every single student passed the written test and qualified. A great course! I just moved to Murfreesboro and state law requires a carry course (vice reciprocity) once you move here. SO.... I was really glad that I took this course from Dennis! Very knowledgeable and funny. Made the day (8 hours) go by quickly. Treated us like adults - no patronizing. I've been through several training courses and yet, Dennis pointed out valuable techniques that I found very, very helpful! I wouldn't go anywhere else!!! Very informative and passionate about what he does. He took extra time with a few students whom were struggling a bit. He even helped my wife by giving her pointers and correcting her shooting and aiming errors. I learned a lot more than I thought I would. Awesome course! Dennis doesn't just "teach the test". You certainly will learn what you need to in order to not only pass, but excel at the test, but you'll also learn much, much more. Dennis is truly passionate about what he does, and it shows. He does a great job of keeping your attention through all the "boring stuff" by keeping things light and joking around, but he also keeps it professional and pulls you back in to how serious gun safety really is.
