Having an ageing parent or loved one injured or failing is one of the most stressful situations we face. It calls to our lifelong relationships with them, all the ups and downs we dealt with over the years, abd especially our own feelings of mortality. It also requires us to make decisions with little information and even less time. When faced with hiring a home health aide or care giver, we rely on strangers to help us decide on which strangers to bring into our homes and then entrust with helping family members in some of the most personal and private acts. When my father became ill, we knew his home was the best place for him. We knew he needed round the clock help that my sisters and I were willing but unable to provide. When we decided to hire a caregiver, these were some of the challenges we faced. - Which agency; the hospital gave us a list if at least 40. - Who were they going to send; it's not like we got to interview them and check them out. - My cousin's wife knows someone who took great care of her mother 3 years ago; where is she now? Then we found Lean On We. It wasn't an agency but a modern way to find a caregiver that lessened the stress. We talked to Betsy, one of the founders, as well as several other members of their staff. They couldn't have been more knowledgeable or nicer. We reviewed their website and learned of Ron Gold's heartbreaking but ultimately uplifting story and how he came to start Lean On We. We saw videos and bios and references for many potential care givers. We picked 3, interviewed them and then after negotiating a fair salary for both them and us, hired 2 for 24/7 care for Dad. It worked out great. My father, not an easy man to please, was bitter at first and was not happy that he needed help dressing, moving around, and showering. He is a very private and independent person and wasn't an easy or pleasant "patient" those first days. But ultimately came to like, respect, and rely on both of them. He was less stressed and less anxious that he was cared for and for the first time in a while, felt safe. When one of the caregivers left for another job, Lean On We, for no additional charge, helped us to find a replacement who was equally as good as her predecessor. We couldn't have been happier (under these circumstances) with Lean On We and would recommend them to anyone on Long Island who needs a care giver. read more

We were in need of urgent home-care for my 90-year-old father, whose needs upon returning home from minor surgery were far greater than we we expecting. We contacted Lean On We and within a few hours we received videos from several already-vetted caregivers who met our criteria. My father lives in New Hyde Park and Lean On We was able to provide caregivers who are local. Our caregiver started work the very next day and has been amazing. Used LeanOnWe once before for my mom when she needed some help when I couldn't be there. We had a very good experience so when my uncle was convalescing at home in queens after surgery we called them again. Denise put my aunt at ease from the start. She asked the right questions and had my aunt feeling more comfortable in short order. Denise sent out profiles for us to look at. We decided a male caregiver was the way to go and we hired him.
