TL;DR/The Short Version: Deli serving up loaded sandwiches…read morein Hintonburg. A bit pricey, but tasty. The Long Version: District Deli opened up around March 2025 in the space that was Bismallah Pies (was Charlie's Groceteria before that). My husband and I dropped by to pick up a sandwich to share. The sandwiches are all named after nearby streets, which really gives it that neighbourhood feel. All meat sandwiches are $13.99 and vegetarian sandwiches are $12.49. You can also build your own for $13.99 where you can choose 2 meats, one cheese, and whatever vegetables you like. We went with the build your own option. We got roast beef and prosciutto cotto, fresh mozzarella and lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, pickled onions, pickled eggplants, and roasted red peppers, with a bit of honey mustard. The sandwich was really good. The bread was fresh, as were the other ingredients. It was a bit pricey in my opinion, but this is in comparison to other similar sandwich shops with $8-10 sandwiches (like 50 Two Sandwiches or Shorty's Sandwiches), but they are in industrial parts of town, so I get it, rent in Hintonburg is higher. District Deli only has cold sandwiches. No hot sandwiches, at least not at the time of the writing of this review. Service was courteous and efficient. Street parking only. Review #118 (2025)

My favorite is the class clown by far. The portions are perfectly sized and decently priced. Amazing little place, with a great, comfortable atmosphere and friendly staff. I love a good sandwich and this place does not disappoint…read more The hubby and I had lunch here the other day (takeout). I got the PhD on their homemade bun. It's the only vegetarian sandwich on the menu. It's topped with avocado, tomato, gouda, roasted red pepper, lettuce and maple balsamic mayo. It was good, but I wish there was one more veg sandwich option. The bun was also just alright. Next time I will try getting it in a wrap. The hubs tried a more adventurous sandwich. Him being a meat eater, he got the "Sean Evans" which was topped with fried chicken in hot sauce, chips, caramelized onions, dill mayo, and chili pepper cream cheese. I must say, I was kinda jealous. We also split a slaw. It was good, but nothing to write home about. They are also known for their cookie dough, which I will have to try next time. The sandwiches were good, but again, I wish there were more veg options (besides salads).

The only complaint I can think of is if you show up between 11:30am and 12:30pm, there is a good chance the line will be backed out the door. On this particular occasion I made it right around 11:30 am and I only had 4 people in front of me in line. The bakery is run by the same two people day in and day out, Rob and Anna. They can come off a bit standoffish at first but nothing could be further from the truth. Rob spoke to all 4 people ahead of me and even knew some of them by name and things going on in their lives. On this visit I had a cup of Chicken Gumbo and a Turkey Sandwich. The Gumbo was full of sausage and veggies and had a nice flavour to it. The sandwiches however really are the star of the show here as Chuck pointed out. The bread was so fresh it was still warm. And the turkey piled about 3 inches thick. I opted to add cheddar cheese for the bargain price of $0.50 bringing the price to $6 for the soup and sandwich. An unbelievable bargain! Not only would I recommend Riley's bakery but would consider it a necessary stop if you visit Cornwall. You won't be disappointed.

I would say on the milder side of medium. The chicken was a lean chicken breast that was battered and deep-fried. The cabbage added a nice crunch to the sandwich. I felt the pickles were a bit too thickly sliced, but I still enjoyed them. There was too much mayo for my tastes. I should have asked them to go easy on the mayo. The bun was fresh. I appreciated that it was plain and had no pesky seeds. The sandwich was fairly large. The fries were crispy and very tasty. I like that they were fresh cut fries and not from frozen. My friend got the Southwest Chicken Salad, which comes with avocado. However, she doesn't like avocados and asked me if I did. Oh I love avocados! So she asked to have the avocado on the side and kindly gave it to me. It was half an avocado, sliced, and served in a ramekin. It was perfectly ripe and not blemished at all. Service was attentive but not intrusive. My friend and I hadn't seen each other for a long time so we had a lot of catching up to do and our server definitely gave us the time and space. He was also knowledgeable about the menu, which I appreciated, since I had a few questions. We ate on the patio. The patio overlooks the parking lot, but the lot is not busy, so the ambiance is not bad. They have a few tables under umbrellas if you prefer shade and some without umbrellas if you prefer sun. Lots of free parking in the plaza parking lot.
