Easily one of the best clubs in North America. A lot of the negative reviews clearly come from…read morepeople who didn't bother to read the simple rules that are posted in huge font in multiples places around the entrance and coat check. The rules are straightforward: 1. No alcohol 2. No gum 3. No photos or videos (... also the unofficial rule that the right side is the gay side and the left is the straight side by the end of the night. It's not an actual rule, but a cultural thing). Complaints about it being alcohol-free, having gum taken away, or being told to put phones away miss the point entirely. Those are exactly the kinds of behaviors the club is trying to filter out, and it's part of what makes the experience what it is. Don't go expecting a flashy or luxurious venue. There is no VIP area on purpose - everyone in the club is considered equal. The lighting is minimal, and the layout is simple... mostly a large seating area and a big dance floor. You're there for the sound system, which is arguably the best currently functioning club speaker system anywhere on the planet, and for the atmosphere, which is on another level. There's a reason it consistently ranks among the favorite venues of top DJs worldwide.

Stereo has dominated Montreal nightlife for over a decade. That doesn't happen over night. It…read morehappens over many, many unforgettable nights. To put it another way... They're bigger and bolder and rougher and tougher. In other words, sucker, there is no other. Wanna kiss myself!

Love this place! Entrance is 3 dollars but every thing else is 2 dollars. Beer, shots, mixed…read moredrinks, 2 DOLLARS!!! a select few drinks are 3 dollars BUT it doesn't go past that. And the drinks are strong! The bouncers are really cool, the bartenders are really cool and the people who come here are generally a cool and eclectic bunch. A generally younger crowd and it seems to be mostly local and college kids but you'll see some older folk in their later 20's (like myself) in there. The music is honestly low, vibrational, top 40 piece of shit non-sense but since this place is so cool, I can forgive it. Especially if you get smashed enough, the music will be Beethoven to your ears. There's a small, decent sized dance floor but the place is pretty big to bring the dancing to other areas. Its really a cool place and I most definitely will return to La Shop when I come back to Montreal!!

Entrance is actually $3 not $2 (BTW)…read more Great atmosphere, pretty decent music! The crowd is between 19-23 (rough estimate). All shots, drinks, bottle of water, coat check everything (except for entrance) is $2! The alcohol wasn't even watered down, as I expected it to be. Didn't quite enjoy the stinger shots. Prefer the ones at Madhatters. They have a somewhat small dance floor (this is great considering that it is a lounge/bar and not a club. There was also a foosball table. Staff were nice. Bouncers didn't have an attitude (as you regularly see in clubs) so I started to like it before I even got in. Staff are super friendly too! Bartenders are quite fast too! Definitely would recommend this place if you want to get drrink and not break your wallet!

Hands down the best speakeasy or cocktail bar we visited while in MTL. It's behind a hidden door…read morenext to the smallest bar in Canada, which is so fun. You want to be brought in and it's dark and moody with the BEST craft cocktail list. The theme is duck - which is so fun. Our bartender was OUTSTANDING. He gave not only the best drink recommendations, but also gave us a hand written list of his favorite spots in MTL (drinks, dining, activities, etc). I wish we would've gotten his name because I cannot praise him enough!

The Coldroom is a fantastic bar and definitely worth visiting. We actually ended up going twice…read moreduring our trip, and each visit was a little different. The first time, the music was extremely loud, and it seemed like they were short-staffed. The bar was completely packed, and there was only one bartender making drinks, so the wait was a bit longer than expected. We decided to give it another try, and I'm so glad we did. The second visit was amazing! The bartender working that night was incredible--she clearly knows her craft and made our drinks quickly without sacrificing quality. Every cocktail was delicious, and the overall experience was much more enjoyable. Overall, I highly recommend The Coldroom. My only suggestion would be that, with a space that busy, the bar could really benefit from having an additional bartender during peak hours. It would help keep wait times down and make an already great experience even better.
