I convinced RJ to eat here because I always heard great things. The staff just isn't that friendly, and the restaurant is dark and cold. We wanted to order sake but they didn't have anything we liked. The server did let us sample some but it wasn't great. We started with shumai which I love but these were weird. They were not my favorite, they just had a strange porky/fishy flavor. We also ordered coconut shirmp which were just ok. The coating was light but not very coco-nutty. I had some kind of spicy crab roll with mango, RJ had something like the hairy mexican. We also shared some vegetable lo mein. Good service, reasonable prices and great food. They have a good variety of sushi, sashimi and, stir fry dishes. Absolutely love the "Times Square" sushi roll. The presentation is nothing like any other sushi roll I have eaten. Comes in stacks of rice and variety of fish that you individually wrap in a soy paper (like a little wrap) and dunk in the sauce (mix of sweet and savory) (see pic for reference). read more

Let me start off by saying that I've been incredibly spoiled by another local restaurant, which is solidly the best asian fusion in the area. So while Le Shio, looks super nice, especially for its strip mall location, the execution of everything we ordered was sub par at best. The menu was extensive and very veggie friendly which Is nice to see! Appetizers :edamame dumplings and the roti canai. The dumplings weren't cooked enough, almost hard. And the roti canai which is one of my most favorite dishes was greasy and gross. The curry dipping sauce was disappointing as well. Moving on...my girlfriend got summer rolls, the avocado and tomato salad and a veggie roll. The salad was seasoned with oregano. Very asian like....or not. I had the eel nigiri, spicy tuna roll and the philly roll. I asked to sub smoked with regular salmon. The rolls were incredibly small. Seriously, the amount of fish in these things was laughable, but it wasn't because it cost money. The server disappeared after our food was dropped off so I was stuck with smoked salmon. I took out a quarter and the coin was the same size as the roll, no exaggeration. Service was meh, food was extra meh, and $55 later, our wallets were extra extra meh. Might return to see how the entrees are, but as for the sushi, I think I'll pass. read more

One of the better places to get sushi in Wilmington. I got the avocado and tomato salad-thr balsalmic vinegarette dressing was really sour so I'd recommend getting it on the side or trying the ginger sauce. There was plenty of avocado for $6. Salmon avocado roll-$6 super fresh and comes eight pieces Udon-typical udon noodles with tempura shrimp (2) and an egg along with chicken in the soup. It was super filling and a lot of noodles. $14 Service was kind of slow but friendly! I'd be back for more sushi, probably not the udon. There's a parking lot so plenty of places to park. The place is pretty dark inside with its decor. We did not find the servers very friendly or helpful as I had to get one of them to explain a few of the options they had on the menu and it wasn't well described by any means. This server left me alone and hung out next to the other servers hanging out at the wall. When we were ready, all our menus were closed but the servers didn't notice at all. It was several minutes until I finally had to get another server to take my order. The food came out in stages and fairly fast, one after the other. The rolls we ordered was fairly standard for what is expected from maki rolls. The beef dumplings were nice and flavorful; with a hint of lemongrass in the filling. I had the Le Shio Connaisseur with filet mignon and was amazed by the quantity of food that was on my plate. Granted half of it was carbs with a mix of noodles and fried rice. I had a healthy quantity of vegetables to go with my sliced filet mignon. Overall this dish had a very buttery flavor throughout and was very rich or heavy. It was very reasonably priced for the amount of food at $23. read more

My favorite thing to get is the Thai Curry with Chicken. Monday-Saturday they have great lunch specials and I can get it, rice, and soup for $8. You won't leave stuffed but you'll be satisfied. The Wonton soup is absolutely fantastic and I highly recommend it! If no one had told me about this place, I would probably still be wondering what it was and if it was any good. Relaxed atmosphere with just a sprinkling of Soho pretense give Wilmington's newest sushi & Asian fusion restaurant just the right balance of style, ambiance and good food. Le Shio sits unassuming in a bland strip center on the Wilmington Pike/202. Walking through the narrow white doors you see a large dining area, half of it two-top tables and the other half bench style. Decor is somewhat minimalist with high exposed ceilings with exposed air ducts. Wait staff are in black and were buzzing around in what seemed to be a moderately busy Saturday evening when we visited. I had the Blackstone sushi; tempura shrimp with cream cheese wrapped in soy and seasoned rice with a small slice of steak resting over each piece. A small to medium sized roll was $16. A bit pricey, particularly for this area but very good nonetheless. My dining partner had the Dambai Bali shrimp and chicken. Saucy and very good though he preferred my blackstone roll to his entree. Both entree's, one glass of the house cabernet sauvignon and an appetizer of edamame cost about $60, plus tip. A wee bit over what it should have been but not completely unheard of. I'm basing my cost opinion on having lived in Manhattan and knowing that a similar meal there at a similar restaurant would typically have been priced a little bit lower. Aside from the price, another minor negative was the rush from our waiter. While friendly, he was obviously attempting to hurry us along, even though we visited well after their rush and a while before they closed. Slow down buddy! No need to keep asking if we're done with our food while we're STILL eating! Le Shio could be just the right spot for a first date, a romantic date night away from the kids or a small gathering of intimate friends. I don't suggest bringing children but I DO recommend the Blackstone, just bring some extra cash and make sure not to get the rushy waiter. read more

This restaurant is in the Fairfax Shopping Center on Concord Pike northbound, with southbound access at the traffic light intersection. I'm not too fond of this strip mall at lunchtime on weekdays because it does tend to get packed and parking is barely enough at times, but that was not a problem on this Friday. The interior of Le Shio is dimly-lit and comfortable, although it's funny that they arranged the overhead lighting to light up the center of each table. That could only be for food photography! :) Service was rather good this afternoon. Maybe I'm getting on in years and becoming a bit hard of hearing, but the staff seem to be overly soft-spoken. Even though the dining area was relatively quiet today, I found it rather difficult to hear them. This could be an opinion forged by years of mediocre East Asian cuisine in this area, but I quite liked the salmon teriyaki bento box. The salmon was a decent portion size and the sauce and shu mai were tasty. Only the sushi part of the bento box wasn't terribly impressive. As a lunch special, the bento box wasn't overly expensive as well. They have complimentary WiFi. read more

I ordered the Le Shio for two for pick up. I also ordered a tobiko sashimi. The food was very ornate, excellent in quality, excellent in taste/flavor... nothing "fishy" about the flavor at all. The sashimi was the usual suspects - Tuna, Salmon, White tuna and Yellow Tail. 3 pieces each, and adequate in size. The White Tuna came with a dollop of wasabi fish roe (Masago or Tobiko, I'm not sure which) and was a nice touch. There was also plenty of daikon and wasabi, as well as pickled ginger. The order comes with two "chef's rolls' and I got the Le Shio roll and the Black Lava Spider Roll. Both were excellent... absolutely fantastic!. But the most impressive thing was certainly the rolls, because that takes serious finesse and years of experimentation to make a combination so so so tasty. But something I did not expect, and was very pleased with, was the nigiri. Not the usual suspects (yes there was salmon and white tuna etc) but it was not just the sashimi on rice. Everything was doctored a bit. It was so good I stopped using the soy sauce bc it was interfering with the intentional amazing flavor of the piece of nigiri (painstakingly and yet with what I imagine was with such ease at this point in the career of whomever created it). It was truly amazing. I will be back soon. My wife's birthday is fast approaching - as all of the rest of them are at our age. And I will simply show up with this same platter, and maybe another so we are sure to have had enough (with a snack the next day of the leftovers). North Wilmington, DE is lucky to have such skilled sushi chefs within striking distance for most people in northern DE. I highly recommend the place. But bring a credit card. You get what you pay for... and you get seriously good sushi at Le Shio. read more

Sushi was fine, but the service was a bit weird. We ordered a bottle of sake and you would think we ordered something crazy. I give this place a poor rating because the experience is so disappointing. Servers are poorly trained and unfortunately do not speak much English. We ordered the "Le Shio for Two", which was 8 pieces of Nigiri, 12 pieces of Sashimi, and 2 chef rolls (we picked Times Square roll & Fushion Tenno roll) I've had some horrible sushi in the past, but this place was really great. I also ordered the Category 5 drink, which was extremely strong. It tasted like I was drinking straight liquor, but I managed to somehow finish it. Came here for happy hour with a co-worker although we were actually late for happy hour prices). Being from out of town, I was pleasantly surprised to find decent sushi in Wilmington. We came a little after 6 PM on a Tuesday and were seated immediately, with a few tables to spare. The service was quick and friendly and not rushed at all. My co-worker and I were admittedly taking our time to order yet our waitress was not at all annoyed or pushy. We started with cocktails and two appetizers (Times Square and Roti Canai). My Passion Fruit Mojito gave me a nice little buzz - refreshing without being heavy on the soda or fruit juice. The dishes were a little smaller than I expected but all tasted really good. The roti was barely a couple bites between the both of us but otherwise the taste was on par with other roti's I've had. While the curry sauce wasn't the typical curry dip I've seen with other roti appetizers, this one still tasted good and complimented the roti nicely. If there is one roll you must try, I say it's Time Square. Not only was it cool to look at (square shaped sushi with a mix of ingredients that made it quite colorful) it tasted really good and was fun to eat. My favorite part was the pink (rice?) wrapper that you blanket around the sushi before dipping into the sweet, spicy sauce centered in a martini glass. It was all in all, yummy goodness! My co-worker loved the sauce so much that she was disappointed when the waitress mistakenly took it away because she thought we were done. No problem though because they made us another batch to dip the rest of our sushi in. For our entrees, we opted to just order more rolls. I went with two of my usual sushi faves, Rainbow and Philly rolls. The sushi came out comically looking miniature size, but what it lacked for in size it made up for in flavor. The fish on all our rolls tasted fresh, along with the rest of the ingredients used for the sushi. 5 rolls and one roti later, we were pleasantly stuffed. Will definitely be back the next time I visit Wilmington as there were a bunch of other options to try besides sushi, that look and sounded really good too. read more
