There are a ton of crepe places in Saint Malo, but we got lucky we were able to eat here without a reservation. I highly recommend making a reservation here if you want to eat here, since the place is tiny and most the tables are for 2-4 people. We came shortly after it opened and got the last table for 2, but there were so many other parties after us that got turned away. I got a crepe with spinach, cheese, tomatoes, mushrooms and egg and it was so delicious. They didn't skimp on the vegetables and the spinach was fresh and leafy (I've been to other crepe places where they use frozen shredded spinach). The crepe itself was light, fluffy, buttery and crispy - just as it should be, with crisp edges. It's the worst when the crepes are soggy, but this was not. I loved every bite of my crepe. My husband also loved his crepe, which was the Bonnet Rouge (9,00 €) which had oeuf, fromage, chorizo, ratatouille maison (egg, cheese, chorizo and ratatouille). It was really delicious - the chorizo was spicy and the ratatouille was flavorful and not watery - it didn't make the crepe soggy. For dessert, we got the Babouchka crepe with vanilla ice cream, apples, almonds, homemade salted caramel and whipped cream (9,00 €). The whipped cream was super fresh, the salted caramel was fresh and homemade and not too sweet, and it was all amazing. One of the best sweet crepes I've had. All the ingredients were super fresh and local, the crepes themselves were perfectly cooked, thin, and crispy (for the galette). For such a touristy place like Saint-Malo, I didn't think we would have such good food at reasonable prices. We would absolutely come back here on another trip and heartedly recommend it. The decor is pretty kitschy with fairies and goblins everywhere, and there were a lot of families and children when we went. It may not seem very upscale in feel, but the food here is amazing!

Don't forget to make a reservation, because Crêperie des lutins is always packed with locals and savvy tourists who know that this is the place to come for authentic, fluffy crêpes, whether buckwheat or white flour. Skip the kirs and apéritif crackers and dive straight in. If you're feeling brave or particularly peckish, or both, you can begin your three-crêpe saga with a galette au beurre salé (a buckwheat crêpe with salted butter). For my main course, I ordered a galette with egg, sliced bacon (poitrine), pan-fried potatoes, cheese, and a stunning quantity of caramelized onions. No questions asked, this galette hit the spot. I still can't get over those amazing caramelized onions. It is blatantly obvious that this place isn't making compromises when it comes to the quality and preparation of each, individual ingredient. I wasn't hungry enough to order my usual frangipane crêpe for dessert, so I got a scoop of caramel ice cream. The flavor was surprising- more of a caramel brulée with that carbon bite of something purposefully "burnt" than the one-dimensional candy, caramel flavor. For my part, I found it excellent. The service was perfect. Polite, efficient, not-too-pushy but not-too-distant either. I was definitely well-fed and well looked after. Don't forget to ask for a bottle of artisanal cider. "Doux" if you like it sweeter and fruitier, "brut" if you like it dry with a refreshing bite.
