I was so full by the time I finished them that I had a bit of trouble making my way through my Lamb Shank entrée. It was lamb roasted with shallots, root vegetables, and a wine sauce, but the meat was a bit over-cooked, salty, and dry. I probably should have chosen a lighter dish. I ordered a casserole with Strasbourg sausage and mushrooms for my main course and asked the waiter to recommend an appropriate glass of wine. He brought a glass from the same winery - again sensational. The owner told me he loves running a small place where he can make people happy because he can ensure every meal is excellent. Beignets de legumes 14 EUR: Not what we typically call "beignets" in America--I think in this case they are referring to the deep fried clumps of vegetables. To be honest, I forgot all the different kinds they had in there, but feel free to check out my picture to get an idea--but there's tons of really pretty colorful leaves, onions, and flowers. Veau braise & polenta cremeuse 21 EUR: This is a large single piece of braised veal, arranged as a circle topping polenta, along with eggplant and zucchini on top. Fine tranches de boeuf & condiments mediterraneen 17 EUR: This is The Most Epic Beef Tartare EVER. So, instead of the typical ultra thin slices of raw beef, theirs is cut relatively thick, maybe a bit less than 1cm thick. The edges are very slightly browned, but most of it is raw like how seared tuna is typically prepared. And there's a couple pieces of fried polenta on top, along with an heirloom tomato salad on the side. But why do I say "epic?"--cause of the amazing toppings on top of the meat! I tried to identify some of it but all I could really recognize are capers, olives, cheese, etc., but there's tons more going on! The price quotes is 55 euros per person, with a two person minimum. To be honest, it was incredibly disappointing and not at all delicious. I would not order it again by any means, but I'm glad I can say that I tried it. It tastes like a fish stew with hints of curry. We also ordered the seafood spaghetti where the noodles were cut into short strands. I'm not sure if this is a common occurrence here but I prefer my spaghetti to be longer. The taste was great, it was a tomato based pasta topped with two delicious prawns. We also ordered the grilled octopus salad with garlic olive oil which was tasty. Overall, this meal was too pricey for what we received in return, although the markup comes from its location on the port.
