    Squid entrée

We'd been working on the northern outskirts of the city, taking "quick" lunches at the places nearby. So when the opportunity arose for a longer lunch, I made reservations online for our party of 4 for La Nautique. Thank you to the other reviewers who mentioned that it's at the top and back of the floating pavilion for the sailing school. We arrived about 15 minutes late for our 1pm booking. No problem, still lovely seats in the bright space. This is a floating pavilion, so the floor slopes on all sides, but with the gorgeous blue sun and all the brightness reflected off the white boats and sails, the space was still charming. They had lunch menus - starter, main, and dessert. They were already sold out of some of the specials, so go for an earlier booking! Our server was pretty good with English and they did have English menus. I had the squid to start, the whole sea bream for my main, and the lemon meringue tart. The squid was divine - nicely charred, not too chewy, and amazing lemon flavor. The sea bream was ok - well cooked, but not the lemon and ginger flavor that I was expecting, and not as good as the squid. The lemon tart was divine! What a wonderful lunch spot - quiet, simply elegant, and right in the heart of the old port!

One of the daily specials! So delicious!

Loved this place! We wanted a fresh seafood place when in Marseille and found it to be delicious. It is a boat on the water, so it can be very romantic if you sit by the window. We ordered a delicious bottle of white wine while looking at the water. I had no idea what I ordered, I just asked for a fish. I have no idea how the chef even made such a delicious broth and seared white fish. There were no sides to the dish. Just fish and the broth/sauce be made. If we came to Marseille again, we would definitely visit again. I loved everything about this place!

Interesting flavors. Service was great. Ambiance was nice because it was in house boat in Marina.

I came for an early lunch in a sunny for me Saturday and walked in soon after noon - and was the first lunch customer. The waiter / owner spoke just enough English and I just enough French for me to choose a smoked duck cake for my starter. I had that with a glass of white wine. Both to die for. I ordered a casserole with Strasbourg sausage and mushrooms for my main course and asked the waiter to recommend an appropriate glass of wine. He brought a glass from the same winery - again sensational. The owner told me he loves running a small place where he can make people happy because he can ensure every meal is excellent. It works for me!

It was certainly difficult not to feel welcome here with the enthusiasm and the witty treatment we got. The menu changes constantly and there is therefore only options you'll see on the board, if you can decipher it. With a limited knowledge of French and not the best ability to decipher swirly French handwriting on a blackboard, I was happy that we got the short version explained in English. We had starters and cannelloni for our main course and a glass of white wine. The portion of cannelloni was rather big (by our lunch standards), so we had to give up at some point, but it was not for the lack of trying our best. The food was good, but could have done well with a bit more oomph in the taste, though I was very satisfied with my wine.

The service was…read moreexceptionally slow even by French standards and there were no explanations as to what the ingredients were for the sides on the menu. NOTE 1: My mother was born in Marseille and speaks French. She handled the conversation during this visit. Let me explain. When we arrived, there were only a handful of two top seated and the sun was beaming down, so one of the attendants winched the rooftop canopy to block the sun. We finally received a basket of bread, then some water, and then the menus. All the while, very large groups of diners were being seated. It became apparent quickly that the team at Madie surmised that we were not worthy of any of the basic services and all additional attention was provided to the large groups. I ordered the artichoke plate. My mother and my wife each ordered the Octopus salad. My artichoke plate arrived and it looked delicious except that it had a chuck of meat in it and meat broth. There was no information on the menu that stated that a vegetable plate had any meat in it. If it did, I would not have ordered it. The octopus salad according to my two diners was okay but they both remarked it needed a squish of lemon and a little more seasoning. All in all, it was a very poor experience, we will not return, and I cannot recommend Madie to any of my fellow travelers.

Do your homework and don't fall in a tourist trap. The service is great, the food is simply amazing: we tried the Bouillabaisse, the Wild Grill Fish and the Linguine with Clams. All dishes were very good. Prices are on the upper end but they are definitely worth it... How many times will you be in Marseille across the marina eating local food? Trust me, you'll not regret it.
