Many restaurants offer an experience, more than just a meal to fill your belly, a promise of something special but few actually deliver on that promise and that's ok. Because it's hard to wow the crowd of now. So when you do actually find such a place that brings that extra, a holiday for your palate, it should be celebrated! And that is how I feel about le relais. The dinner was a wonder, 5 courses, each wonderfully leading to the next, and ending with a dessert that didn't feel like an end but a new beginning. Long story short: ambiance-excellent. From location, to service, to plates, to setting-10/10 food-unforgettable Price-not cheap but when compared to similar in Paris or Aix de Provence or even other Marseilles establishments, very acceptable. read more

Not really sure why this was even suggested as a Michelin recommended restaurant. Although accommodating to our reservation need the day off, that was the extent to the customer service. Lacked detail, focused on a big group ignoring the little tables. The big issue for me is the lack of execution on the wine paring. For me when I order wine pairing I'm paying not for the alcohol but for the experience. They brought the food out but forgot the paring which I had to remind them 2x. Not great service! The first two wines were actually the same???? I did bring it up which was really uncomfortable and just excuses, not to mention the guy stating he will bring the last one before the last dish to make sure I get it for sure. Excuses but no "how can I make it better". The food itself was so plain and completely unfulfilling. First, not a fan of Wasabi yet it was in all the fish dishes . Second, the desert was a HUGE let down and I almost felt like I was being played a joke on (pictures below) 3 strawberries and a little tiny pasta?!?! This restaurant was located right on the harbor with plenty of outdoor seating. With great weather, it was ideal to have a leisurely meal & people watch at the same time. We did get a light rain as we were dining. The staff was quick to power up the awning to provide cover & continue with our dining experience uninterrupted. The food was tasty and centered around seafood. Everything tasted great but for some reason, nothing stood out. The portions were on the small side - which was not an issue but fyi. If I have to pick out one outstanding dish, it would be the fish steak (I think it was tuna). It was cooked just right & the texture & the accompaniment made it stood out among the other dishes. The staff was very nice & professional. Attentive without hovering. We also didn't feel rushed to finish our meal as it can happen in some restaurants when they're trying to turn over the tables. We enjoyed the pace & accompanied our dinner with Prosecco & espresso. Glad we got to experience this place but more than likely, we'll opt for other places as part of our fine dining exploration in Marseille. read more

This is a great place to eat if you like raw food, but unfortunately it didn't quite do it for me. Don't get me wrong, I like my steaks rare, however I do like my food to at least see a flame. We went for the set menu, and out of the three starters all of them were raw. I chose the beef tartare and my partner had the raw marinated mackerel. I thought they were both good - but I expected more than good for the prices charged! However it may be that I don't appreciate that style of "cooking". Onto the main. We both went for the veal sausage. I really enjoyed the flavours in this dish, but again I felt it could do with more cooking. I was expecting the sausage to be pink in the middle, however there were small pieces of meat that looked and tasted almost raw. Again, it could be that I just don't quite appreciate this style of cuisine. The dessert on the other hand was faultless. A caramel and chocolate mousse. Which was very salty - almost on the verge of being too salty, but not quite. Which to me was perfection. I may not agree with them that raw is best, but I definitely agree that caramel plus chocolate plus salt is the perfect combination! I was debating over 3 or 4 stars for my rating (if only I could give 3.5....) however as this was the priciest meal I had in Marseille I was expecting so much more. And unfortunately Le Relais didn't deliver. read more

Superb dinner! I will remember this dinner for a long time. I had a three course dinner. (42 Euros). I started with very finely sliced baby peas with eggplant "soup" poured on top and a very french mustard sorbet. Amazing. My main was a white fish served with three types of carrots. Dessert was too complicated to explain but spectacular. These were brilliantly conceived dishes by the young rising star chef. The most senior male waiter was also amazing and loved explaining everything about every dish. A guest at the wonderful hotel received a 10% discount to the restaurant. A couple of weeks before this trip I dinned at Atlanta's very best restaurant and it is not in the same universe as Le Relais 50. read more

First off the food was okay. Not worthy of the recommended Michelin Good Plate rating. The cuttlefish was very rubbery. We ordered two steaks medium and they both came out different. Now the service was horrendous. It took them 30 minutes to get out the dessert and it was wrong. Definite would recommend that you try out the REAL Michelin starred restaurant down s few stores - Une Table au Sud. You might be paying a few more euros for the meal but the experience will be delightful and the food will be enjoyable. read more
