EDIT: I worked all of Christmas week and only had Friday off to spend with my family. As I stated it was a disaster. I packed up the meat and took it back the Tuesday after Christmas. I did voice my disappointment with the meat. It was tense. But I should have known that Mr Le J would do the right thing. He refunded half my money (that's what I asked for) and was very kind about it. The whole situation was so out of character and so I'm glad we could work things out. I'm not sure where to start. Last year I bought my own brisket and added a chicken and had him smoke and shred - the food was good. This year (2025) I ordered brisket for 12 and 2 chickens. The brisket was not shredded - it couldn't be and was all fat and gristle - inedible. The chicken was shredded but still had so many bones it was a threat to eat. The real clincher is I spent over $300 on this FOR CHRISTMAS DINNER FOR MY FAMILY. I was mortified. I will never use Le J's BBQ again. The service was good but the point is the food was inedible. Of course he is cash only and has very short hours. I'll go to Wichita before I go here again. read more

Mr. Love runs and owns this place all alone. He makes everything from scratch except the pickles, bread or chips. My bf and I went to lunch today and each had the 3 meat combo with two sides for less than $19 together. I got the ribs, brisket, hot links (they're housemade too), baked beans and chips. The ribs were the best I've ever tasted in my life. LITERALLY EVER. The owner shared with us that the leftover meat all goes into the beans and they were damn near life-changing. I tried the hot bbq sauce and it was just perfect. My bf had pulled pork, brisket and ribs with cole slaw and potato salad. It was Carolina cole slaw which I prefer to other variations. The potato salad was absolute perfection, just like your memom always made (if you're from the south). Everything was perfect. Mr. Love shared that he supports his two daughters and if they need something, he closes his restaurant and takes care of them. He also closes when he runs out of food. I'm don't know how we got so lucky that he still had so many options at 2pm in the afternoon on a Saturday, but we did. At that point, he was out of chicken and turkey, so a return visit is in order. As others have mentioned, it is cash only. You'll leave perfectly satisfied but not heavy or feeling sick. It is absolutely perfect and Mr. Love will give you clear directions. He's not your usual restaurant owner and manager but he may be the best in his unique way. read more

Do not make the drive from Wichita. I have attempted this place 4 times over last year and each time they were closed or out of food hours before posted closing time (4pm). Today was the last time I will make an attempt. My wife and I arrived 2 hours before closing to find out no brisket and cash only... no big deal. The owner introduced himself and said "go get cash and then I'll serve you and your wife the best bbq meal you've ever had". As the cash machine was directly across the street this was no big deal. BUT!! When we got back 10 minutes later, the same guy looked at me like he had never seen me before and said he was out of EVERYTHING! So much for the "best bbq meal" id ever have. Due to erratic hours, dirty interior, and unprofessional behavior of owner, we won't be back. read more

This is some of the best BBQ we have sunk our teeth into in recent days. The owner makes his BBQ daily, his own sauce (I'd like a bottle to go!) his own potato salad and coleslaw, his own beans. We got the 3-meat with beans and coleslaw. We tried brisket, turkey and pork butts. He cut a bun in half, as we were sharing. We sopped up every delectable bite! I did not care for the coleslaw. It was good, don't get me wrong, but I prefer the creamy type and this was an oil-based with obvious sugar. Hubby thought it was great! The coleslaw is corse-chopped, so you can tell it's hand- made. The beans were simmered to perfection. Drinks are located in an old, battered refrigerator. Help yourself, ring out when you are finished. When you leave, people will know you are there, because you will smell like delicious smoke! Don't forget a take home menu so you can order ahead next time. I know you will want to. They are located next to the radio on the table by the wall, along with napkins and forks. You can dine in OR carry out. They do catering, too! read more

Absolutely the best BBQ we've ever had. We are from Lawrence, KS and we were passing through on our way to get a pup. We decided to give it a try and we were not disappointed at all. Treat yourself and stop by this great Bar-b-q joint! The food is fantastic, but what really makes this place special is the owner. We were in town for a procedure at the hospital and wanted to pick up food to take home so I wouldn't have to cook. I called but then realized they were closed. 10 min later the owner called my cell phone back and asked how he could help. He had our food ready for pick up even before he opened. Wow! I really wanted to like this place. It is a nice environment and the customer service was super nice. Like I said, I really wanted to like this place... But I didn't. There was zero and I mean zero seasoning. Super bland! The silver skin was never taken off of the ribs and they were rough. The chicken was super dry and bland. The only thing I kinda liked was the sausage. Side item were also bland. Super bummed and I won't go back. Size of portions were great but who cares when it doesn't have any flavor. This is barbecue at it's finest. The meats are smoked onsite the potatosalad is home made as is the coleslaw. The owner and chef is truly a delightful person, he is right when he says that his cooking skills are a gift from god and he chose to use them for his own business.
