Madly looking for unique gifts, jewellery etc, I just got reminded about the elephant in the room. I hadn't thought about the most important thing, the CAKE!!! So when it comes to Cakes I generally think of only two places, Hummingbird Bakery or Patisserie Valerie. I had no idea about other cake places. There is a reason for that. I work around Liverpool Street and for all office events, we generally get pastry and cakes from these places. But I knew, I couldn't come to Liverpool Street to collect cakes on the special day. Ordering for delivery was too late. And I also had to make sure the cake was vegetarian as my special someone is Vegetarian. Cake mission just got harder. So I googled some vegetarian cake shops near Lewisham and this one popped up! Right next to my place, barely half a mile. But their website is absolutely shit! Try it, I'm not joking, I told them too. They said they were working on upgrading it. But this is absolute shit. Even a child can design a better website. Any cake you select, it gives you the same description and every cake has a 7 character long identification number which only makes sense to them and not the customers. Being a software engineer, that irritates me a lot. It even made me wonder if the place was trust worthy. See what a bad website does to your business... Keep that in mind the next time you think about starting a business and call me if you need a good website. But having seen their shop before on the high road, I decided to trust them. I made a choice online and paid via Paypal and silently wished there was an Undo button. But next day morning, they called me and confirmed the order and said that the cake would be ready for collection by 3. As mentioned earlier the shitty website didn't give them much information to make the cake, so they had to ask me again what size the cake was etc. And long story short, I collected the cake, planned the surprise and it was the moment of truth. The CAKE was fabulous! Absolutely mouthwateringly soft and delicious. Not too sweet, nor too creamy, just the right consistency, the perfect balance. I was perplexed but also very happy. After all my choice had only two outcomes, good cake or bad cake and this one was positive! Phew! Looks are deceptive, I mean, if I were to judge the shop by the horrible website I wouldn't have ordered this. But this was uniquely unbelievable! It was quite a lot of cake for the money, for 42 pounds you get an 8 inch chocolate/vanilla cake surrounded by chocolate/vanilla cupcakes with your choice of fruits or cream on top and of course the writing on top of the cake. The special day was two days ago and I have been eating cake every day since then :D And trust me, I want to stop, but I just can't. I'm totally a fan so is she.

The bakery has plenty of seating both outside and in. The smell of fresh bread fills your nose as you enter and there's a warmness to the staff and the people within. We didn't eat in today but we will definitely be back. Instead we grabbed a chocolate cookie and a salted caramel brownie and we went on our way. 5pm came round and it was cookie time! The cookie was packed full of chocolate chips and tasted wonderful. It was very crumbly but I liked this about it. I can only imagine it warm and gooey - NOM. Next, the brownie. Moist and melt in the mouth, it was truly delightful BUT I couldn't really taste the salted caramel, it just wasn't strong enough over the chocolate. Still a great brownie. As, I said, I'll be back for lunch. Those pizzas are calling my name.

A man wearing a bra with no uniform delivered it to me (slightly odd but ok). to my surprise it came with guacamole (which I've never seen in my life before on a BLT), only few pieces of bacon and about 2 cherry tomatoes cut up and put on (which did not get close to covering all the space. It mostly bread , tasted ok but skimpy on the bacon and tomatoes . I realized the tesco next door had a BLT with the same amount of bacon. More tomatoes , and only 1/3 the price. Average , not an amazing place , your results may vary

Came to pick up the cake on the agreed date and was informed that no cake has been prepared. Despite email confirmation, which clearly stated ''Your cake order has been confirmed and will be ready to pick up on Friday 8th of July'' I was left with very few options late on Friday afternoon to source a child's birthday cake. Extremely disappointing. Not to be trusted with special occasion cake orders. A complete let down.

I love crumbling buttery croissants and epees of baguette.. This bakery is more of what I would classify as 'English' with various meaty items stuffed in a flaky, yet heavy dough. Besides these Cornish pastry type items, there are a few sweets that look a bit too sugary for my tastes and some soups. I gotta admit, though, you can probably fill up when you tank of food calories is low for less than four pounds. The place is also local and independent which tends to shed favorable light upon a place in my eyes. I probably wouldn't want to eat lunch here, as I prefer things a bit less meaty and heavy (at least when it comes to food), but if you like them British-type pastries, you might fall in love.

Not quite Soho, but the cakes were calling, so I had to go in. What a let down. First of all we were ushered away from teh loungey area outside as they were 'closing it down', even though their closing time was more than an hour away. Then we waitied by the sign that said 'wait here to be seated', until I called out to one of the vacant looking waitresses, who were chatting, and she irritably waved me towards a table as if I were an annoyance rather than a customer. Almost instantly she wanted to know what we wanted, before we'd really had a chance to look at the menu. We sent her away and it was AGES before she came back - the staff here just seemed to be really wilfull. My husband and son each ordered a croissnat, both of which were stale (I did think it was a bad choice at the end of the day, but then, they shouldn't be on sale if they're stale) and were not warmed up, even the pain au chocolat (which my three-year-old commented on). My strawberry tart was quite nice, until I found the BLACK HAIR on it, and then I was really put off. All in all this was really not a good experience nad one that really lets PV down. If this was my first time at a PV I'd never go back. A shame as their cakes are lush and something special. Also very ugly lighting in the restaurant, might as well go the whole hog and put fluorescent tubes in.
