It's located in an adorable little alleyway with stone roads and made only for pedestrians. I took a seat by the window to people watch. The positives were that the food and coffee were great- though not better than anywhere else in the area (and obviously you should also expect London prices). The cons, at least for my purposes and on that day, were that the wifi was so slow it was unusable. However, the biggest disappointment was how unbelievably rude the staff were. I've worked in customer service for many years and am ALWAYS inclined to give staff the benefit of the doubt because, frankly, I don't really mind if they're not giving A* customer service. I even get angry when people complain about 'bad' customer service because I think they probably just can't empathise with how hard it is. However, there were two blonde women working who literally looked me up and down like I was trash when I asked for the wifi password. They lazily pointed abstractly to the corner of the room without a word of explanation even when it was clear I couldn't see where they were pointing. Eventually, another girl also working in the cafe noticed and had to show me the wifi box and also explain to me that there was a QR code that I needed to scan. Later, I simply asked where the toilet was and again, the same blonde lady looked at me like I was asking whether I could shit where I was standing and said 'upstairs'. I actually laughed. It was horrendously poor service and I am still honestly less angry (because who the fuck really cares about a bad cafe experience) and more perplexed!

Clientele are your white middle class regulars together with some of the young locals. Most keep themselves to themselves but I've occasionally sparked up a genuinely interesting conversation with an unsuspecting stranger in here! Family and kids-friendly with a little play area to keep the tots occupied. There is a bit of a local rivalry with nearby Moka- my take on it is that Blend is better for the coffee aficionados but Moka wins on ambience and range of eating options. Both are excellent options to while away your weekends in good company!

Wide offer of breakfasts and weekly changing lunches which all sound very tasty. I got a cappuccino (pic) and I find it not bad (I'm Italian so my standards might be little above average), though £ 2.50 is little overpriced in my opinion - whereas it may be cheap for London, I don't feel it's worth all this money, that's the reason why I give 4/5 stars. Will surely be back anyways, atmosphere for working is quite nice despite kids being noisy from time to time

Cozy local place serving good coffee…read more They're definitely taking the rustic angle here, with creaky chairs and tables and a generally DIY aesthetic. The food menu is focused on bread, with a variety of pastries and sandwiches, pretty standard for a cafe, but not quite extensive enough that I'd want to choose it for lunch. Maybe a few more salads would grab me. Anyway, my wife and I split a latte, and it was quite good, definitely better than the one we had earlier in the day from another nearby cafe. It was also a few p cheaper at £2.40, which I consider a pretty good price. I noticed a "bowl latte" for £2.80 on the menu too, which I could definitely see diving into. The sunshine coming through the big front windows was nice, too, and the place was filled with small groups of people in relaxed conversation amid low-key background music. Overall a very nice atmosphere, good coffee, and just enough funkiness to remind you that you're in Dalston.

Well it is called a 'Literary Cafe.' The food menu is rather posh with very clean feel to it. Yes you can get an American Breakfast, but it is just a stack of four pancakes with syrup - no bacon. Not sure how I feel about that. Actual yes I do. "I want me some bacon!" Sandwiches seem to be marketed as the A-list eat, but something else caught my eye. How about pancakes with baked apples, maple syrup, cream cheese and pecans. Oh yeah! I also purchased a house smoothie that tasted good, but once my pancakes arrived that bad boy had my undivided attention. As that first bite hit my palate my reaction was one of an overload of sweetness. Within seconds my tastebuds rose to the challenge and declared "Leon we can handle this!" Boy did they handle it well. I loved my lunch. It was priced at £5.95 so I'll let you decide if you think it's expensive. Rustique Literary Cafe is one of those places to get away from the hustle and bustle. The vibe is relaxed, the food is good, the clientèle remarkably middle-class and it has that all important free wifi.

I agree with Jooz P. that this is definitely a Yummy-Mummy hangout place, but I've learned to ignore the breastfeeding, the constant talk about babies and the shuffling of the chairs and tables to maneuver the buggies around. This place does several things really well: they've made the place feel really welcome. Oftentimes the windows are steamed up from the cooking in the kitchen, which makes me always feel right at home. Also, I love their constantly changing menu, as well as the fact that they prepare everything fresh. In fact, the other day I was there at almost 2pm and most of the daily specials had been crossed off the board. This, in fact, is a good sign to me! I really recommend this place to anyone who ever "dares" to come to this part of London! (The Harringey Green Lanes is just around the corner and I highly recommend a visit to the Turkish grocer called Yasar Halim.)

However if you don't live locally I do not recommend a trip there as its a long walk from the station and parking costs £3.70 an hour if you don't hold a green lanes parking permit (although it is free parking on Sunday). The service was pretty bad (the main reason I've given it a 3* instead of a 4). We had to ask for everything including a seat down, menus, and cutlery even though there were hardly any people in the restaurant. The table next to us asked what desserts they had and were met with a err not really sure, all the cakes are over there (there were only 3 cakes to remember!). You could tell all the waitresses absolutely did not want to be there which made everything a bit awkward.
