Lovely cappuccino art, and the remnants of my chocolate hazelnut croissant. ;)

Wonderful espresso, friendly service, and reasonable prices. It is worth the extra walk if you're touring around the Westminster Abby area, just to get off the well-trodden tourist path for a quiet sip and pastry.

Yes, there is a lazy cat walking around, but the cafe is interesting enough by itself. I love the casual ambiance, I think it attracts friendlier people. What's good : - Free wifi. - They allow you to bring in outside food. - There's a cute cat walking like he owns the place. - Drinks and cocktails. What's not: - The placing is not the proper one for a cafe like this. The decor is just my type: relaxing, vintage and rustic. It has great vibes, pleasing and relaxing atmosphere and the loveliest staff. It is perfect for some 'me time'.

This is the most dive-y, badass business in London. So comfortable in its awesomeness that it exists in an area that is the antithesis of trendy - just outside the biggest commuter terminal in London. It's like the business owner asked himself, "Where should I open up a really cool cafe-cum-bar? Shoreditch? Hoxton? Fuck it. Waterloo." So you want: -Coffee in the morning? -Cocktails at night? -BYO food and free wifi any time? -A cup of tea in the evening when everyone else is drinking cocktails? No problem. Come to ScooterCaffè and own it, my friend.

Coffee+Booze Bar (The best of both of both drugs. I mean worlds.) Locally baked cake Free wifi (but no computer camping) Free VHS movie nights And on a side note, cat! I'm a café cat. And I meow meow meow, I meow meow meow. Cat. I'm a café cat. And I dance dance dance, I dance dance dance. Now these are some backstreet boys I can get behind.

Retro-trinkets, 1920s music, two cats and an English waitress quick to break into foreign accents and language. This is definitely my kinda place. The aspect I like most about ScooterCaffe was the gloriously escapist feel to it. The hint of this starts at the door: it's dimly lit inside, making it very difficult to see into the cafe from the outside. But enough is visible to stoke your curiosity. A Vespa scooter sits in the window with a cloth union jack flag draped over it. Next to it lie various faded bric-a-brac from yesteryear. Walking into the cafe reveals ScooterCaffe in its full retro glory. Rusty scooters against the walls. Tables covered in red and white checked table cloths. Walls plastered with old pictures and turn of the 20th century adverts. 1920s music playing in mono. So convincing was its effect that for a while, I felt like I'd wandered on to the set of a 1920s play. So, its retro-effect is pretty spell-binding. It's also got free wifi, a small space outside at the back and a large basement downstairs with more seating (though less retro-themed and more fairy lit). But a couple of things stop it from attaining 5 star status. The hot chocolate and brownie I had weren't exceptional, more edging towards the mediocre, which was disappointing given the stunning lead-up to them. If they can fix that (hint: source the brownies from market stall Galeto's. Job done. And look to French bakery Paul for pointers on how to make the best hot chocolate) then this place will be a shoe-in for 5 stars.

I can't add much more to the chorus here, only to say this place is an awesome and rare blend of charm, service and quirk that you can't help but smile and love it. And the manager is a cat. That is all.

Scooterworks is a comfort vortex. If I didn't have places to go I would lounge in here for eternity. There is a store cat that hangs out with the customers and lounges on the chairs. I covet its destiny. I would love to lay all over this place all day and get petted without having to worry about diurnal responsibilities. What a great life. And what a great place. The décor is all funky, with a motor engine espresso machine and old-school Vespa signs posted on the wall. They have board games and super comfy chairs. Most of the people having coffee here looked like regulars. A lot of people were writing and reading and chatting with the staff. It is a really relaxed atmosphere. This is definitely a hidden gem.

The Scooter Works bar and cafe, just behind Waterloo station is my newest discovery. It is an absolute delight. I was taken by a friend of mine who has been coming here for 4 years, and is always happy when she misses her train at Waterloo because it means that she can come here instead. The idea behind this small little room is that is emulates a 50's Italian coffee shop where the twin passions are good quality espressos and...scooters! So there are a couple of scooters nonchalantly parked next to the till, along with a smattering of Italian records thrown around for good measure. Played wrong, this could end up looking a little contrived, but this place really works. It helps that the coffee is sublime, easily on par with the Monmouth coffee company. It also helps that the staff have an authentic 50's Milanese coffee machine to work with. The menu is tiny, written on the back of a postcard. I ordered the hot chocolate which was like nothing I had drank before. It took about 5 minutes to make and then I drank it in 10 seconds. It is more like melted dark chocolate. I wanted to order the white chocolate with nutmeg, which apparently tastes like thick custard, but was told that this flavour had sold out, and when they sell out, someone has to go back to Italy to get the ingredients. I guess I will just have to hang around until they get it back in.

Awesome coffee at the day and marvelous bar for some beer or whiskey at the evening. I totally enjoy the vibe any time I'm there (usually after 7pm). Lovely place, great atmosphere

Considering I wanted to go to Scooterworks the first time I passed it, it took me a long time to get there. Every tie I was going out with friends, I'd say, "Let's go to that scooter bar!" I finally made it there last week and it was more awesome than the Beatles in their heyday... well...ok, that would be a tough battle, but Scooterworks is still amazing. Going to Scooterworks feels like stepping into Naples in the 1960's. I think their front door is actually a portal in time. My friend and I got cappuccinos and settled down at one of the only empty tables. The drinks were perfectly foamy and delightfully delicious. I loved the crowd - a laid back, artsy, diverse bunch, and I love the ambiance. I think we'd all be hard pressed to find any other cafe that doubles as a Vespa good shop anywhere in the world. (Or is it the other way around?) The only downfall (if I may venture to even associate that word with this cafe/bar), is that they have no food there. But this cannot abate their greatness - just know what to expect.

5 star rating 17/1/2010 3 photos Woefully under-advertised and sadly not open on Sundays the Scooter Cafe serves coffee, tea, hot chocolate and alcoholic beverages in a venue that gradually morphed from a Scooter repair workshop into a pub/cafe (you can still find tools scattered about and there is a scooter in the front window, often inhabited by one or both of their two pet cats). You can bring your own food. They show free films downstairs on Monday nights and have a supply of board games. Downstairs is also available to hire for private parties. The prices are very reasonable and the atmosphere is unlike anywhere else, a real vintage gem.

Hearing there was a resident cat sold the deal for me when I found this place on Yelp. We had time to kill before checking into our hotel and fancied a coffee, so nipped in here for our caffeine fix. It ended up with just me having a coffee and somehow managed to pick the table where the cat was fast asleep on a chair next to. Not deliberate, honest! Unfortunately, the milk in my coffee had taken a turn for the worst. Immediately realised it was sour. Took the coffee back up to the girl who served me, she apologised and said there had been problems with the milk before. She happily swapped the coffee for a lovely, refreshing Fentimans lemonade. The decor is scooter and vintage themed, very cool. They have a small terrace area at the back that looks like a little sun trap too. Lots of delicious looking cakes on the counter too. I would go back if I was in London, hope they can get the sour milk situation straightened out, it's a cool wee place. Passed it later on that night and it was buzzing with folk drinking inside and out.

This is a quirky little café that roasts their own beans. They offer cake with your coffee, but sadly no meals. You can bring in something from the markets nearby to eat with your coffee though, so that's cool. Plenty of Cuban music playing while I was there. Didn't see the cat though

He had looked up restaurants that served a full English breakfast, and Kennington Lane Cafe was highly regarded, and it happened to be a few minutes away from our B&B. We loved our breakfast so much that we went back a second day. What I liked about the menu was that is was easy to create exactly what you wanted. You could order a set breakfast (and easily add on extra sides), or you could pick and choose what you wanted, and make the breakfast as small or as large as needed to match your appetite. The breakfast I created had a small steak, fried mushrooms and tomatoes, and bubble and squeak. Delicious! I don't have an itemized bill of exactly what we ordered and the price of each item, but the totals on my credit card bill are £20.89 the first day and £20.50 the second day, and each bill included breakfast and coffee for two. Essentially, you can get a full breakfast for £10 -- a fantastic deal. [Yelp collections: Europe 2024; London, England; Poor and hungry?]

My friend and I stumbled across this cafe en route to an event and dropped in on our way home to try it. We both had a cup of herbal tea and I had a slice of cake. Staff were really friendly and it was a nice spot to spend an hour or so. The cafe also has various items for sale including plants, crockery, candles and kids items, however I found they were priced pretty high. This is why I dropped a star on my review as I found it was on the pricier side. Tea was £2 and a slice of cake/cupcake/pastry was £3. I did enjoy my tea and cake and the cake was homemade but it was a bit of a small portion to justify the £3 price. However I appreciate the vicinity of the cafe probably warrants the price and it is in quite a touristy area with the London Eye a 5 min walk away. The cafe has been there 4 months and it makes a change to visit a local business vs a chain cafe, hopefully it is here to stick around. So give it a go! Hopefully they will become a bit more generous with the portion sizes!!
