Cute, friendly, comfy place. Nice flat white. Square mile coffee; fruity. Lunch was fairly light, improvised sandwich, soup, and salad fare. (I enjoyed mushrooms and goat cheese on toast.) There are also baked goods; all home made. Prices are average for London. And a bebop-ish jazz soundtrack. Really nice energy, if a bit Dalston hipsterish. Highly recommended.

    Flat white and cappuccino :)

Excellent coffee - service a bit on the slow side though so make sure you're in no rush.

You can't really go wrong with banana bread and peanut butter and fancy looking lattes…read more This cute cafe reminded me of LA hipster cafes that are there purely for Instagram, but that's okay! They're known for their vegan banana bread and had the option of topping it with peanut butter or a greek yogurt topping. I loved that the bread was toasted, and it was so comforting and sweet to eat with a spoon. The peanut butter isn't the disgusting Skippy consistency, but more like natural, dripping peanut butter that has a stronger flavor. It was a nice bite. I got the blue majik latte and thought it just tasted like a sweet latte that looked pretty. Kind of pricey too.

The waitress was also very cheerful this Sunday AM. The food menu is slightly changed from when I swung by six months ago. I got the Palm Buddha Bowel, which has an incredibly tasty blend of tabbouleh, roasted veggies, beetroot hummus, baba ganoush, massaged kale with seeds, pickled candy radishes (absolutely delicious) and thick sweet potato falafels bursting with flavour (the waitress kindly had the cucumber removed from the dish as I requested). It's a hefty bowl and I finished it feeling satisfied; I ended up being full the whole afternoon! I also got the Green Goddess juice (sans cucumber) and I liked how large and frothy it was. Sadly my friend didn't seem to like her Persian porridge and admittingly it looked pretty gluey and unpleasant. I got one of the vegan cookies and a coconut, chocolate and passion fruit macaroon for takeaway. The cookie was both sweet and salty but a bit too sugary for my taste. It was thin and lightly crispy with a decent amount of chocolate chunks. The macaron was very light and crumbly with a smattering of that coco/chocolate/passion fruit ingredient inside.

Although £12 for my lentil burger made me blanche, the generous sides of salad and housemade slaw (I asked for no fries nor burger bun) made it all worth it. There's so much on the plate I boxed half for home (I had drank a smoothie before I had arrived here). The slaw in particular is divine: it doesn't have that gross mayo gloppiness I usually despise. It's quite fresh. There's a lovely vinaigrette on the greens and the burger has a moreish artichoke sauce. The staff is friendly as are the customers; dog-friendly too!

My friend and I popped in for brunch on a Saturday and staff were very helpful and flexible with our orders. I got the big vegan breakfast (sans beans) and my friend got a gluten-free version that subbed a bunch of salads. Both of our meals were HUGE -- I ended up bringing home enough for breakfast the next morning! The restaurant also has a divine assortment of vegan cakes, cupcakes and desserts with MANY gluten-free options so of course we bought up about 4 items to bring for later. They also sell some packaged grocery items and have a lovely lefty/anarcho/vegan book selection. The t-shirts are 15 GBP and well worth grabbing one as a souvenir since you know the leftovers won't last the whole way home! Cafe is super cute inside with many small tables and lots of art (I especially adore the big cat mural in the bathroom). Keep in mind - they are closed on Tuesdays. :( Totally worth going out of your way -- it's not too bad of a walk from Hackney Central or Hackney Downs (check out Pemberton Pub on your way back if you have the time!).

I rushed in in an absolute daze and grabbed a table and before I'd even sat down I was greeted with a smiling face and a chirpy question. In my haze I barked hot chocolate and water and received it promptly (I apologised for the barking - never a need for rudeness!) My hot chocolate was delicious and had a wonderful hint of cinnamon running through it. Sadly I didn't try the food BUT my god it looked and smelt delicious and this more than anything is one of the reasons I'll be going to back! An additional part of its charm is that the cafe is connected to the infamous vintage fashion store, Beyond Retro, so you can shop, rest and have a coffee and a bite to eat and then shop again. My full intention on my return. Watch this space for the review sequel: F&G: Beth returns. On your Yelp screens in 2016!

They have both breakfast and lunch here, and some lovely bakery items -- including a mixture between a croissant and muffin called a "cruffin". Worth trying! However, I had to take one star off due to the music. Not sure about other Foxcroft locations, but over the course of a few hours it appeared to range from thrasher metal to top 40s. Normally this wouldn't bother me too much, but it was so loud I found it hard to think past it. Quieter music = better vibes. All in all though, a great new spot in the neighbourhood.

They have good coffee and tea and apple ginger juice in pretty bottles. The people who work there are very forgiving of hours spent on their free Internet. My only gripe is that it's nice to have a food option should one get hungry ( and let's be honest, I'm pretty much always hungry). Apparently they'll be getting real food soon. For now, my poor stomach will have to be content with cookies, mini quiche thingies, croissants, and the like, as well as excitingly flavored chips. And by chips I think I mean crisps. And by flavored I think I mean flavoured. Look how hard I'm trying! If I get killed by a bus looking the wrong way crossing the street I will be very angry with you, London. The great thing about Dalston is that over the years it has seen the development of many new cultural projects and is home to creative collectives who truly contribute something to the vibrant melting pot of people living in the area. Cafe Oto has a jam packed programme of musical treats over the coming months, mostly featuring international artists I have never heard of which is not only exciting to me, but proof that the cafe is working successfully towards their goal of getting exposure for talented non commercial artists. The atmosphere here hums with creativity, it is large and light with a grand piano and free WiFi. The café is smaller than it looks from the outside - there is basically one table to sit at, but when the sun is as brilliantly shining as it is at the moment, one can enjoy food and drinks al freso at additional tables outside. The coffee I had was ok, and perhaps because we got there late on a Sunday afternoon the food selection wasn't overwhelming. (A couple of cupcakes and a sandwich). But they do sell delicious bread, cakes and cupcakes from London's best bakery (E5) and the "Happy Kitchen". That means the sweet stuff is vegan - thumbs up for that! In addition they offer a variety of health foods and ingredients (including Asian food), as well as eco toiletries, cleaning products, etc. The selection is somewhat limited compared to other, bigger stores, but if you live in the area "Healthy Stuff" definitely provides a useful resource.

But we were both happy when we sat down at one of the three tables. This part of Dalston Lane isn't very busy so there'll proably always be a free seat and you wouldn't be disturbed by shoppers passing by either. The blackbord above the till lists a menu of salads, toasies, fresh juices, and other wholesome treats. I loved my green salad with avocado, sprouts, and basil tofu. For a dish and a big glass of juice you'll pay about 10 pounds per person. It's unlikely that I'll find myself in that area again soon but I'd recommend a visit to anyone who happens to be around.
