You probably wouldn't even see it if you were driving past because it's away from the main road, overlooking the river in Brentford. I went on a sunny Saturday and fell in love with the terrace. They have several bottled beers or Moretti and Heineken on draft. Their menu consists of burgers, steaks, fish & chips, salads, and desserts. Cocktails are available as well, and during happy hour (6-8pm) it's just £10 for 2 cocktails. Burgers are served on a wooden skate with generous portion of "steak fries" (or thickly cut chips as Brits would say). My favorite part about this place is the massive terrace, river views and relaxed atmosphere, but thankfully the food is great too. My only critique is that service was a bit slow and had to walk in to pay because my server wasn't coming out to collect my card for payment, but I think that's a testament to the slow moving vibe of this place.

Staff were super nice and put lime in my ginger beer which is always pleasing! They also served heaped plates of breaded fish and unusual and tasty vegetable arancini. Excellent!

As the complete gentrification of the once dangerous and hideous Kings Cross gathers pace, this is…read moreone of the braver early adopters. St Chads Place is down a cobbled alleyway which has long been the night time hangout for smack heads and prostitutes. Not a promising site for a cool trendy place like St Chads. But it's going to be OK. As the council desperately sweep the less fortunate down the road to Campden so the foreigners off the eurostar don't realise how backwards Britain really is, the place gets a little 'nicer' every day. And this little patch begind Kings Cross has started to attract design and architects business. Lots of smart expensive glasses frames walking about now. St Chad's Place is a single dining room which is quite striking because it's got huge high ceilings and a lovely concrete floor giving it a warehouse feel. The whole back wall is one photograph. of a train station I think. Apt as the metropolitan line runs right by the side of the place. You could be in a gallery of some sort. It's got that sort of feel, but it certainly isn't precious. They've left it quite casual. You can wander in and buy a take away sandwich or sit down at one of the tables and order from the small but interesting menu. Or design a new-fangled building on your mac on one of the armchairs provided whilst slurping a good quality coffee. When we first started going here after we moved to the area (advertising. Now THERE goes the neighbourhood!) we felt they were possibly over-stretching themselves with the menu. Very eclectic choices which sometimes simply weren't pulled off. However, each time we've gone the food has got noticably better. A venison steak and chips was excellent most recently and reasonable value at £13. A soused mackerel starter was also particularly good although quite challenging to one of our party who found the vinegar hadn't had enough of a cooking effect yet. Maybe still stuff to be worked on. It's bright, it's spacious, it's not too fussy, they keep the menu compact and interesting. The service is good. It's a place that seems to believe in what it's doing. They care about the food and the surroundings. It gets better every time we go. It gets three stars from me now but I've no doubt it will get four before long and I will continue being a regular.

The "eggs three ways" on their Sunday brunch menu is lovely!…read more You get one egg with buttery spinach, one with ham and one with loads of salmon. The cafe was packed, and we didn't have a reservation, so we sat outside (under a heater) and watched all the brave January swimmers while we drank oodles of tea and ate all the eggs. I had to run away after brunch (as I had a poorly catty to attend to) but I think it'd be nice to spend much longer chilling and chatting here. I'm surprised by some of the harsh reviews directed at the staff...they were all sweeties on Sunday. (^^) You lucky South Londoners!!

I happened on this cafe twice in one day. We first stopped by for a coffee on the way to Dulwich…read more The coffee was excellent and it was great to be out in the sun by the pool in the morning. Only slight annoyance was my girlfriend being given her tea with the milk already in the brew - no one wants this (a very American thing to do). We liked it enough to visit for a late lunch as the local pub had stopped serving. This was much more mediocre. I had a burger which was very poor and could have come from a food van given the cardboard flavour bun and cheap salad tomatoes smothered in mayo. Side salad looked like it was from a supermarket bag and wasn't dressed. My girlfriend had a tart and bean salad. This was a cold plate and only got flavour from a mild vinaigrette. Bottom line, visit for a coffee and avoid for meals. Not sure what The Guardian and The Independent reviews were saying! The afternoons also bring out the young mums and their wailing babies. Not my ideal lunch company.

And of all the Caffe Neros I've been to, this is my favourite. From the outside it looks small - and whilst the inside isn't huge, it's more spacious than you'd expect, all down to the backroom. This is where I usually sit, as it has a comfy bench and tables big enough for my laptop, and a great big glass roof that makes it nice at bright inside. Although I've been to Caffe Nero for both breakfast (yummy muffins) and lunch (nice paninis), I usually head there in the afternoon, park myself somewhere with my laptop, a coffee - the best I've tasted in any of the chains - and a cupcake or brownie, and sit and work for a couple of hours. The staff in this branch are always friendly, ready with a smile, and don't seem to mind me camping out there. Which is why I go back again, and again, and again, and again, and again...
