When I pointed this out to her (immediately as she set the plate in front of me), she shrugged at me. That was it. No beans for me and I was left staring at pig carcass. The atmosphere is what you would expect, dingy diner, with the additional gross factor of friends of the staff coming in and smoking, half in the door, while holding the door open with negative temperatures outside. This became a problem when I was living there for an extended time period. Let me explain what a pasty is for those that don't know- its like the most exquisite fluffy yet dense dough pocket, with heavenly savory fillings. It is portable, so you can carry this feast with you, as you shop or jump on the train / tube. My English cousin keeps telling me that the lamb and mint pasty is the best, but I am completely hung up on the pork and apple. I was CRUSHED on my last trip to the UK a month ago that the King's Cross West Cornwall stand was no more- it was perfect after a long day in London, before I had to commute the 45 minutes back to Hitchin (the town where I was living) or after a night of painting the town red. Oh, pasty, pasty, pasty. Oh, did I mention, West Cornwall's mascot is a pirate? It really does not get any better.
