I came here for New Years Eve with some friends after it has been highly recommended. However, I was woefully disappointed with the menu that night. The restaurant had sent out a holiday prix fixe menu in emails that included swordfish, my friend's favorite dish. We called the restaurant that afternoon to confirm it was indeed available and they said yes. We confirmed our reservation and were super excited. Once we arrived there was some confusion as the fish listed on the menu was different, but we were assured she could still get the swordfish. Well..... guess what? They brought out a different fish and I guess just hoped she wouldn't notice? It was really bad. She sent it back and they made her a Croque Monsieur, but it was cold in the center as they rushed the cooking (not raw, just cold ham). The food we did order and get was very nice. Servers were friendly and very French. We ordered a bottle of sparkling rose and they did a nice job of refilling our glasses of wine and water throughout the meal. Ambiance is reminiscent of cafes in Paris. We were there early on NYE (5pm reservation) so the place was still warming up, but the space is cozy and a bit tight when it's full. I so wanted to love my dinner here, but not telling the truth about the type of fish you're serving is pretty unforgivable. I might try them again, but I won't be ordering the fish.

First time at Le Chat Noir a French Restaurant in Washington, D.C. I ordered the following from the brunch special at $33.95: -1 mimosa -Poached Eggs Norvegienne with smoked salmon and Hollandaise sauce with French fries. -Nutella crepe The Nutella crepe was my favorite from the menu. The poached eggs were a bit runny, but the French fries were nice and crispy. The restaurant doesn't have a kids menu but you can order a La carte. Happy Yelping :)

Always love this restaurant. Very cozy, everyone is very friendly, they will try to accommodate any request. Food is always beautiful and delicious, the sauces and dressings are perfect and add that extra touch to make the food stand out. So hard not to finish my entire plate.

First off--cutest branding, sign and exterior decor (crazy cat lady here). Le Chat Noir and I have a special relationship. I come here when I need to study--I attend Capital Wine School courses around the corner. Le Chat Noir is quiet, quaint and quirky. The staff is quick, kind and always gives me the rundown on what's new and recommended. My absolute favorites are the escargots (pairs well with Champagne), Moules Mariniere (pairs well with a Chardonnay), and their cheese selection (grab a full bodied red and indulge)!

It has to be the most charming restaurant in the DMV. From the outside to the inside with the high ceilings and wooden beams, it oozes charm. It's dated but in the cutest way imaginable. There's love piano, which only added to the charm (have I used that word enough yet?). We were seated as soon as we arrived and were given the massive wine and food menus. They were a bit awkward due to size. I ordered a glass of the German Riesling and asked the server if it's sweet. His response was that it's fruity. Yes, but is it sweet? I was a bit surprised that a server at an upscale restaurant didn't know the difference between sweet vs fruit-forward. I got it and took a chance. Thankfully, it was a dry wine that was fruit forward. I got the scallop & lobster risotto appetizer and the seafood pot pie for my entree. Both were rich, creamy, and full of seafood goodness. I was pleasantly surprised that the pot pie came with string beans on the side, as it wasn't listed on the menu. The only thing I can knock La Ferme for aesthetically is the women's restroom. The floor tiles and walls are beautiful and stick with the French theme. The stalls themselves give off high school gym bathroom vibes. They were metal with chipping paint. I say they knock those suckers down and replace them with some beautifu,l wooden bathroom stall walls and doors. It would make SUCH a difference. The rest of the restaurant transports you to another place, but those stalls bring you right back to a place that no one particularly wants to visit (maybe a road trip rest stop?). Change the bathroom stalls and educate the staff about wine, and you've got a five star restaurant.

So, I take back my old review and state very clearly that Mon Ami Gabi in Bethesda is stunning, first rate and very high end looking. The food was very good. We started with escargot and mussels. The mussels were a bit bland in my opinion. Yes, there was garlic, yes, there was onion, yes there was wine but the overall flavor was just sort of mediocre. The escargot, on the other hand, were beautifully cooked, prepared and seasoned. The garlic and other seasonings turned what is really just a garden pest into delightful little bite of intense flavor. I loved them! For our main courses, 3 of us got beef. Of course, it was well prepared. The French fries were crisp, hot and lightly salted. I did not want to share them. My zero-proof drink was lovely! I had the grapefruit cooler and it was a perfect balance of tart, sweet and bubbly. This place paid a lot of attention to a non-alcoholic beverage. That says a lot to me!!! The service was not up to the beautiful appearance of the dining room. We had spotty attention and a lack of focus from our waiter. At the end of the evening, they really rushed us out. I've read many of the reviews, and many of the negative reviews, in my mind, are unfair because it seems the reviewer didn't know what they were getting when they went. It is expensive, it is French, and the chef makes every dish himself. So yes, the service can be slow and the dishes (particularly the specials) are very expensive. But everything I have had there -- the Branzino, the lobster purses, the bread, the steak -- have all been outstanding except the apple tart which I frankly don't like that much (but that's just a personal taste thing -- I prefer more crust and a sweeter dessert). The staff there is great -- many have been there for years -- BUT the service IS slow (see above, chef making every dish himself) and can be epically slow, hence my deduction of a star. If you're looking for a long, leisurely, special, French dinner -- this is the place for you. If you're looking for a different experience, don't go and don't complain when you get the experience you were looking for.

For sides, the creamed spinach, mashed potatoes and Au Gratin Potatoes are my favorites. For dessert, the Flourless Chocolate Espresso Cake is the one to get. They do have a kid's menu and for larger parties they do require a private dining room. They validate up to three hours in the parking garage, so parking is free. Service has always been top-notch. We were seated right away in a booth near the bar area. We were there to take advantage of a promotion, wagyu and wines event. One could order a Wagyu burger platter (3 different varieties) that came with sea salt fries. Cost would be $35 with the wine, $10 less without the wine. The burger would be paired with Orin Swift red wines (4 different kinds). The waitstaff also provided a happy hour as well as regular dinner menu for those who want options. We got the Wagyu. Minutes after ordering we got the complimentary bread basket. It was warm and covered by a white napkin. Every type was delicious. The arancini were gold ball sized (5) and topped with Parmesan sitting on a thick rich sauce. The interior had creamy risotto and black mushroom. It was topped by blue cheese, truffle, Bibb lettuce, tomato and pickles, topped by a poppyseed brioche bun. Was rich and yummy, everything went well together. Fries were crisp. My companion had the mushroom Swiss burger and enjoyed. Wine was smooth, fruity and had great depth, with no bitterness. It shone almost as much as the Wagyu. Service was excellent and gracious. Though the dining area got full it never got noisy. A great place for a romantic dinner or drinks with colleagues.
