This is an absolute diamond in the rough! He is nestled into a small courtyard with no sign.. nothing. Either you know or you don't! But if you can find this little shop he is the sweetest French man (from Jersey! As are we ) and his pastries are outstanding. A quaint, authentic French bakery and cafe tucked into the French Quarter. It's a bit hidden, but definitely a gem once you find it. The shop itself is small and cozy, as they only allow a couple of people inside at a time to keep things flowing. Seating outside is limited but available. I had the quiche and it was absolutely delightful. So fresh, flavorful, and authentically French. The owner was incredibly kind and helpful, offering thoughtful recommendations based on what I was in the mood for. They were also very sweet to my dog, brining him cold water and a fresh biscuit, which absolutely made my morning. I loved it so much I brought my husband back later that day to try more pastries. Definitely worth a stop if you're in Charleston and craving something charming, French, and delicious. read more

Incredibly rude and shooed us away with our stroller. We gladly took our business elsewhere. The location is quite small and we had a 2-child stroller, so we parked it outside and took turns looking at the options inside. There's zero chance we could've fit our stroller in inside to order. While discussing our options for a few minutes outside, since, you know, you can't leave a stroller with children outside alone, they came out and told us to leave so that paying customers could sit down. We informed them we were deciding what to get, but it didn't matter. Incredibly rude, and based on other reviews, their attitude seems like a common theme. Save your money for an establishment that cares about its customers. read more

Cute and petite French bakery in Charleston. There is no space inside for tables, but there are some in the small courtyard in front as well on the street. Tried a couple things here, a pepite choco almond and almond chocolate croissant which were authentic and delicious. Prices are on the higher side, but I didn't mind since I was visiting Charleston for the first time and the pastries are worth it. read more

Very cute authentic French Bakery. It is run by the couple who owns it, and they are very nice and welcoming. Highly recommended if you are looking for great pastries and breakfast croissants/sandwichs. Adorable little bakery tucked back just a touch off the street. It has a beautiful front yard with tables and chairs set up. It's a quiet peaceful spot. They even have a very friendly pup to "guard" the place and visit with guests! The pastries are delicious and the owners are friendly and helpful. They have some small gift / craft items for sale too. Would definitely return! read more

'Just like an American.' This is what the owner said to me today WHEN I said Graci instead of Merci. YES... PROUD American! However, a better response, 'The word you are looking for is...' . Another visit to Charleston, I had to come back to Le Chambertin for lunch. I had the ham and cheese croissant but was also eyeing the quiche. I wanted either coffee or tea but they only had black coffee, much to my dismay. The guy in the counter was nice when I asked what the food options were. This authentic quaint French bakery with peaceful outdoor seating has freshly baked croissants, pastries, and French imported jams, mustard, etc. The baker kindly allowed us to take a short video of the interior, as long as he was not in it. The cinnamon pastry was buttery and delicious but a bit heavy. They did not have beignets. The almond croissant was flaky and better than any that I've had in Charleston, but none that I've had could compare with French Memories Bakery from our locality. We came in on a weekend morning to try a few pastries. They looked great but one bite proved they were not baked that morning. Maybe not even the morning before. This shocked us considering the owners are French. Maybe they don't think Americans care. We did. I don't mind paying top dollar for fresh pastries but I do for stale pastries. Just bake off less each day and keep your product fresh. If you can be sure they baked that morning I'd say try them but if not, keep walking. read more

Nothing I love more than a rude business owner. It kind of closes the stomach personally. I went to take a photo and video of the food for my trip. She rudely yelled at me to stop and delete the footage. So I don't think I'd want my friends to experience such a rude woman. That being said I still kept my order and did enjoy the things I tried. You do with information as you will. And enjoy my forbidden croissant footage. read more

So I want to start out by saying if your looking for a good crossiant. This is definitely the place. But if you like good service don't visit. I don't know if she woke up on the wrong side of the bed but she was kinda mean. I've gone to the other larger bakeries in the area and this one takes the cake hands down. It's small batch but it's so so worth it. Just go and buy anything, you'll be happy you did. read more

This is an adorable little French bakery. We walked right past but then the kind people at goat.sheep.cow directed us here in our search for a croissant. Thank goodness they did! Our group had a croissant, a cheese danish, and an almond croissant. Each was better than the last. The pastry was so flaky and fresh, the flavors so lush, and the whole place was just adorable. My husband, our young daughter, & myself walked in mid morning on a Saturday. We were greeted warmly & took a few seconds to look over the pastries available for the day. We settled on two ham & Swiss croissants, a beignet, & a chocolate almond pastry. The owner suggested the croissants be warmed up & offered to do so we said yes. OMG. THEY WERE AMAZING. The ratio of buttery croissant to ham & Swiss was perfect & the mustard brought the flavors all together. On to the pastries, the beignet was superb, the custard style filling was honestly perhaps the best either of us have ever had. The chocolate almond pastry was decadent but not too rich. You could taste the quality of chocolate in each bite. Overall, a great experience. Both service & quality was great. We will definitely be back! read more

It would have been better with a second scoop of ice cream though. Service was great! It took about 10 minutes from when we ordered to get our dessert. I would probably come back here again, but not so late at night so there would be fresher cake with more options available.

That's the best thing I could say about our experience. The food, pricing, service, and ambiance all fell below average. When you are located downtown with so many great dessert options around, you really need to step up your game. We will not be returning.

The first meal we had was a bit of a work/get together meal. We ordered an assortment of items off of the menu and created a more tapas menu. The charcuterie board we picked the cheeses for and it was lovely. All as expected and quite surprised to find a cheddar I enjoyed. Came with some grapes, figs, nuts, honey and I think mustard. Glazed carrots were phenomenal. Heartily enjoyed the beet salad and thought the presentation was quite pretty. Lamb lettuce wraps are alright. Not my favorite of all the dishes served but delivered as promised, nicely cooked and presented. Spouse really liked the lamb wraps and were a stand out dish to them. Meatballs are excellent truly great texture and flavor. Escargot was a fun take on a classic dish. Finished with a unique strudel in its presentation it was quite pleasant. Spouse liked the peanut butter chocolate dessert. For brunch, I had the carrot ginger soup. Which I must say was a total delight. The soup had the hallmark texture and base flavor of the carrot ginger but it had a beautiful breath of savory and some heat seasoning wise to it. It was quite an elevated soup and heartily enjoyed! I followed the carrot soup with a French toast. I am all for softly scrambled eggs but the French toast was a touch undercooked. (I did not let the restaurant know or give them the chance to make right. I regularly eat soft boiled eggs and soft scrambled so I felt comfortable with consuming them.) Strawberries were ripe and tasty. The whipped cream was gorgeous in thickness and flavor. One in law had the caesar salad with croutons and grilled chicken. Their bowl was left clean so while they are not the talkative of sorts they did seem to enjoy it. Ordered a baguette with butter. Unfortunately the butter never made it to the table but the baguette was enjoyed. Spouse had the Azur burger with the side of tapas style potatoes. All was cooked properly to temperature and texture. Flavor and taste as promised. Wasn't their favorite dish at Azur as we had tried so many lovely dishes a few evenings before. But it did deliver on what was represented in the menu. Other in law had the quiche and a side salad. They liked the quiche and would order it again.
