Walked in off the street because I saw that they have a whole menu in English. So I was anticipating a less-intimidating experience.
To start, the food was okay and fairly priced.
Started with a lemonade. Waiter brought over black olives and bread. Then, I ordered a steak, which came with fries (thicker cut, not too salty) and a blue cheese sauce (pretty much melted down bleu cheese).
So, why 2 stars? Because the experience was saddening.
Came to Paris randomly, so I don't speak french. I tried my best to communicate with my waiter. His patience was thinner than ice.
He wouldn't make eye contact, took longer to take my order than other guests (he passed several times serving new customers who spoke french, even though I was clearly ready to order. You know how that looks-- menu closed, desperately trying to make eye contact...that whole song and dance).
After he brought my order, which wasn't cooked right, he never came back. He chatted with others, checked in on them, and ignored me.
Initially asked for the WiFi password, which he never gave. Couldn't ask again because he.never.came.back. Also, the bar was busy, so that wasn't an option.
I don't know if this attitude toward Americans is a cultural thing, reflection of the restaurant staff as a whole, or just a man being a giant dingus. read more
