Definitely no "bistro" feel, way more experimental if anything. I had the pulled lamb confit ravioli with beef consomme to start, followed by the oven baked gnocchetti with parmesan and mushroom cream. My mom had the pan seared walleye fillet, while my dad had the pork tenderloin. At first I thought the beef consomme would just be standard, but it tasted pretty good with the ravioli. The portion is small as it's an appetizer. The gnocchetti is what I felt your typical above average pasta dish. Good but nothing to write home about. My dad loved the pork tenderloin, and my mom was satisfied with the walleye fillet. I added a tiramisu to finish off for dessert, and it was amazingly good. Service was excellent here. Definitely a modern, "today" take to your French bistro affair. I'm told the menu changes often, so I wouldn't say no on returning here. read more

I had an excellent experience at Le Boulevardier. Service was fantastic, my waiter allowed me to switch in and out of French and English, which was kind. I was hoping to do the tasting menu but it wasn't available on a Tuesday night. Regardless, I tried a couple items on the menu and everything was fanatic. From the second floor of the hotel, you look out over a busy street and the overall feel of the restaurant is upscale and elegant. Highly recommend for a nice French dinner. read more

I was here in August after just completing chemo and recalled the ambiance and service were amazing but my taste buds had been muted. I returned with my sisters to see if the meal was as good as I thought it was. It was so much better, it was an amazing meal (party in my whole mouth) with incredible service. Le Boulevardier's extremely elegant interior exudes warmth without any intimidation. Entering Le St-Germain and going up to the second floor to emerge into the golden glow of the dining room is a treat in itself. The ceiling and wall mirrors reflect the soft lights in all directions, and the windows giving onto avenue du President-Kennedy present an open view of the "boulevard". We went there at 7 PM for dinner; reservation was not tight at all during these busy times. The menu was diverse and appetizing. We picked the pan-seared cod and roasted duck. Warmed bread came first in a towel-covered basket, along with two cute butter balls. Two types of bread were presented. One thin-crusted baguette, which had no particular quality, and one rosemary bread, which was tasty but dry. The nicely presented dishes came soon after. The duck was pink, tender and tasty, its jus pairing beautifully with the acidity of the huckleberries. The vegetables were perfectly cooked, creamy with the red cabbage puree. The winter turnips were unfortunately a bit bitter, but the croquettes were delightfully crisp. The pearl onions were a very pleasant addition with their brief intensity. The cod was perfectly cooked, resulting in the most beautiful texture. The shellfish emulsion was suble and paired well with the comforting sweetness of the squash. The meal was very satisfying and the service impeccable, although perhaps not reaching the highs hoped for. On a down note, the napkin carried this characteristic unwashable smell of old kitchen towels. read more

Highly recommend the 3 course menu. I especially like the suckling pig appetizer and fish cheeks. Both of them are very special and hard to find in other places. The fish cheeks contains two pieces of cheeks and one piece of tender fish fillet. Of course you have other options for both appetizers and main dishes. The dessert is also good. Beautiful view, nice ambiance, great food! Expensive but worth it for a special evening! They accommodated my 86-year-old mother and I despite our late entry since we came hungry after a show. Le Boulevardier has been on my list for several weeks, and I took the opportunity of a quiet time at work to visit for lunch. The restaurant is located on the second floor of Le Germain Hotel. I ordered items from the table-d'hôte menu ($28), as a starter I had the Green peas crème brûlée (+$5). The green peas mousse was light, the crust of the crème brûlée was crisp, I really liked the mix of salty and sweet, it was my favourite dish by far. As a main dish, I ordered the beef tartare with fries, the tartare was good but somehow I expected something better and the fries were not to my taste either. For dessert, I had the clafouti (+$8) which was good and reminded me of the ones my mother used to bake when I was little. The total amount of the bill was a bit steep, which would have been ok if they had presented me with dishes out of the ordinary... but apart from the starter, I'm not sure it was really worth that price. However, the interior is gorgeous and the service was A+ and courteous all along. read more

I noticed when I asked for a rec for wine the waiter just recommended the most expensive option for each. 4 apps plus two glasses of wine was $160. Would not recommend. read more

The food is excellent but the service was borderline awful. After the server greets me, she informs me that half the items on the menu are out. OK, I'll have the foie gras dish. That's out too, she says, but we have a substitute dish with foie gras in it. To their credit, it was good and the seafood platter was great too. But is it too much to ask that the glass of wine you ordered be the one you are delivered and come out before appetizer arrives? Not only did they not have the wine I ordered, they up-charged me on the replacement. And to add insult to injury, they overcharged my by $100. When I protested, they brought me another bill with $30 of overcharges still on it. By the 3rd time the bill was presented, it was correct but for the replacement wine cost almost twice the original one I ordered is shoddy practice. Disappointing. If they could fix the service issues, this place would be great. As it stands, a big disappointment and I certainly won't be coming back any time soon. read more

We had the opportunity to try the MtlaTable, and every dish was very interesting to say the least; multiple things were turned into foam that we did not think were possible. My friends suggested this restaurant, and I will admit that I was a bit skeptical at first. I'm always a bit reticent to go to restaurants that look like they might be a bit pretentious. I love good food, and I don't mind paying for it, but I do mind places that take themselves too seriously. In this case, I'm glad I followed their lead. FIRST IMPRESSIONS The maître d'hôtel was lovely. Although I was definitely in my "Friday attire" (think extreme business casual), they were warm and welcoming. I knew that I was under dressed, but they did not make me feel unwelcome at all. Points for that! I arrived a bit before my friends, but I was seated immediately at a nice table (I wasn't hidden in a dark corner despite my less than glamorous appearance. Lovely view on our winter wonderland. I was offered a choice of still or sparkling water while I waited, and did not feel even a little out of place with my big backpack (I was heading to a cross-town meeting after lunch, so I was carrying my office on my back!). THE WAIT STAFF We were served by a number of different people. I appreciated that the emphasis appeared to be on quality and efficiency. I am sure people are assigned tables or sections, but they are clearly focused on ensuring that people are served promptly more than anything else. Everyone was friendly and polite. I also value when wait staff do lot attempt to force additional food on me. I order what I can eat, and nothing more. I did not feel pressured to order more than my meal and my coffee. Yay! THE MENU As this was my first visit, I don't know if the menu changes seasonally or if the lunch and dinner menus differ. However, I can say that the lunch menu offered just the right amount of variety and everything looked good. They offer a Table d'hôte option for a few dollars more that includes appetizer and dessert. For lunch, that would be too much for me, but the offerings looked delicious. THE FOOD I was there with 2 friends and we each ordered a different meal. I had the salmon tartare, one friend had the sea bass and the other had the gnocchi. We were all very happy with our choices. The gnocchi was gorgeous and the mushrooms looked cooked to perfection. My friend was very satisfied. My other friend had the sea bass. I would note that if you don't like roe, you may be put off, but it was delicious. I had a fairly standard salmon tartare. It wasn't exciting, but it was good, as were the fries it was served with. Again, if you aren't a fan of roe, there is a little as garnish, but that can be easily set aside (I'm sure you can order it without). THE BILL I did not experience any "sticker shock". The meal was worth what I paid for it. We sat around talking at our table for a good hour after we finished eating. The staff continued to refresh our beverages and check in periodically. We felt no pressure to leave. We left a good tip. CONCLUSION I recommend. read more

Had adverse reaction to the cheese in the tasting menu ended up vomiting twice, so initially I was gonna give it 1 starts. You know paying 300 dollars for a tasting menus and vomiting 2 time is not something you want. But I was drunk and forgot my headphones phone while walking to the airport shuttle he ran after me and gave them to me and it saved me 300 dollars from needing to buy new headphones so giving 4 stars for service. Le boulevardier is located on the 2nd floor of the St.Germain hotel near McGill University. The decor is chic and somewhat resembles that of Marcus. I don't know if it's the hotel restaurant concept? But le boulevardier has definitely a more clean, intimate, and inviting atmosphere for its guests. Our waitress did a pretty good job of summarizing the main menu. Consequently, we ordered a green pea crème brûlée with black pudding-This dish was a perfect combination of sweet & savoury with a touch of salty, it is a nice twist on a traditional dessert. We also ordered a side of six oysters that included the Tresor oysters, my favorite. There were a lot of vinegars and sauces that came with the oysters as well. The presentation of this dish was exceptional. For the main course, we shared the Mediterranean sea bass served with potatoes and Brussel sprouts, this was my favourite dish. The second item was the lamb tagliatelle, which was nice with simple flavours. The wine list was definitely on the pricey side, so I settled for the Le Boulevardier cocktail as one of the cheaper alternatives. The price range for appetizers starts at around $16, whereas the main courses range between $20-$40 per plate. The final bill came out to around $150 for two people which was very reasonable and appropriate given the excellent service and great atmosphere. read more
