The space is super small, almost snuggling with the people you share the table with small. And on a very hot and muggy middle of the day heat I felt like I was roasting in the oven. That was strike one. Strike two... the food I'm sad to say, it really wasn't anything special. We ordered the fried zucchini flowers to share, it wasn't greasy at all, delicate but in need of a fair amount of salt sprinkling. For main courses I had the basil pesto pasta which smelled divine but again, lacking in seasoning. Hubs got the beef stew which also nothing that I can't make at home on a crockpot. We had a reservation for this restaurant on our very first night in Nice and it was extremely…read moredisappointing. First, let me just say that the food was quite good - that was not the issue. The service, on the other hand, was deplorable. Our server made it very clear early on that although he spoke perfect English, he did not care for Americans. So, he went out of his way to give us the bare minimum of service. He did not clear any empty cans or glasses from our table over the entire two hours we were there, he did not attempt to be friendly, he did not check to see if we needed anything. He served me a room temperature bottle of beer, and when I mentioned it to another person they brought me an ice cold bottle...so it's not that they weren't available. We also arrived when the restaurant was essentially empty, and they went out of their way to seat us at the worst table available (sloped down the street so the table was tilted). Meanwhile, our same server was downright jovial with anyone that was fluent in French. Mercifully, we have had a much better experience at every single other place we have visited in our week here in Nice. La Ptite Cocotte seems to be the exception rather than the rule. That being said, we can absolutely NOT recommend this restaurant if you want to be treated like a guest rather than simply tolerated.

We did the prie fix menu of that week and the kids are still talking about their meal. Some of the dishes: gazpacho, mini "burger" of delicious cheese sans meat, pork chop over silky mashed potato, squid ink risotto, lemon ricotta ravioli, pannacotta, cheese board. We talked about how good everything was throughout the entire meal. I think we were lucky to get a table for our party of five because when we tried to return the following evening with the rest of our group (10 total) they could not accommodate us. My mom was disappointed she couldn't eat the pannacotta again. So maybe plan ahead for a big group- it's petite inside and has a little patio in front outside. We hope to eat here again next time we're in Nice!

The place is super relaxed. 5 maybe 6 tables which made the difficulty of reservations more understandable. Prix fix menu - 4 appetizers to choose from, 4 entrees and 4 desserts. We were there with somewhat of a limited diet, but the options were awesome. We got a cauliflower appetizer and an artichoke one. Both were excellent. The dessert was also excellent - we got the goat cheese in olive oil and garlic, the cream cheese with blueberry compote, lemon cheesecake and cinnamon "tiramisu". Every bite was full of flavor and such cool takes on the food. Now the intangibles - we arrived for our 9pm reservation, restaurant closes at 9:30 and we probably didn't walk out until 11:15 and there was still another table of 8 people dining. The host/waiter, Sebastian, was awesome. So friendly and we at no point felt rushed. In fact the opposite. When our daughter was slow in finishing her meal he joked with her instead of hurrying us along. Once we finished our main dish, he casually brought us our dessert and because we didn't order his favorite (we didn't know) he brought us out an extra to enjoy. We felt a little bad so somewhat accelerated the dessert phase so we could square up and leave. Instead he was unhurried, he casually cleared our table and chatted with us for a bit. It took us another 15 minutes before we finally said could we get the bill. He brought it to us another 5-7 minutes later. We had a great experience and one of our best meals in France, if not the best.
