Saturday night in NOLA. 75F in December and everyone is out. Bourbon St is bustling with thousands of people and street entertainment. We stopped at Le Bayou around 6:45 pm. Table of 4. It was busy but there were 3-4 tables available when we sat down. We were ignored for 25 minutes. Finally, a waitress comes by and apologized for being late. We said we were ready to order. Each of us ordered an appetizer and a main course. 35 minutes later out came the appetizer AND the main course. I said, aren't we supposed to get the appetizer and when it's finished we get the main dish? Yes, they said, and our waitress ran to the back. The manger came over and I asked the same question. He said, yes. So, he took back our main dishes and left us with cold appetizers (soup, crawfish cakes, and the spinach dip). It appears that our waitress forgot that we ordered appetizers and when they realized they brought everything. So, I can report that the corn and crab soup is very good - even when cold. The crawfish cakes are good too when cold. The spinach dip Is not good cold as the cheese gets hard. The main dishes were good too. We got the Crawfish Étouffée, Blackened Chicken Alfredo and the Taste Of The Bayou: Enjoy All Four. In the last one, 3 of the 4 were excellent. The gumbo wasn't very tasty. Would I return? Maybe. Once we were seated, we didn't see anyone for awhile, until a young woman finally came and greeted us. She asked how long we had been waiting and apologized that no one had told her we were seated. (Hence the reason for the three stars) She took our order and she was very friendly, but we hardly saw her. As you already know, we got the blackened chicken nachos. Which were the perfect blend of white queso which they were not stingy on and the blackened chicken was plentiful. We also ordered the cowboy burger and let me tell you the applewood bacon is what made the burger full of flavor. We aren't much of seafood eaters, so we didn't get to try anything their signs brag about, but the nachos and burger definitely hit home when we wanted a gut filling meal. Dine or dash? Dine. I was in New Orleans for the weekend and stopped into Le Bayou while walking down the street. The location is great and the decor definitely catches your eye, especially the crocodiles on the wall, which added a fun, New Orleans style vibe. Unfortunately, the service really fell short. I ordered pasta, oysters, and a margarita. The food came out first, but the margarita didn't arrive until about 40 minutes later. Our waitress brought it out very nonchalantly and didn't apologize or acknowledge the delay, which was disappointing. The food itself was okay, but nothing memorable or out of this world. We are outdoors, first meal in NOLA. Service was decent, very slow it felt...took some time to get out drinks. We were a table of 10 I should add, but still. Salad was just okay, chicken was chicken...nothing really amazing about it tbh. Ranch was basic. Ordered the spinach dip, that was served hotter temp with chips and was very good. Also ordered the bbq shrimp as an app, was very good...sauce was yummy but shrimp were small there weren't enough. I can't really say anything bad about Le Bayou. We ended up getting a few things, mainly the 2 pastas (The Ya Ya Shrimp is great, the Jambalaya also good, but Ya Ya for the Yaya. and some oysters. The YaYa Grilled oysters are...decent? The sauce they use is really good, but it does overpower the oysters a bit but if you like garlic and butter...and let's be real, you're on a food review site. Came in for lunch on a Tuesday, as this was conveniently located on Bourbon Street and was drawn in by the signs of Oysters. Sat down, ordered a dozen oysters, and the waitress let us know they were out of oysters. What? What kind of oyster bar runs out of oyster on a Tuesday? We went to New Orleans for a cruise that we were going on, so of course we had to go to Bourbon Street. While walking Bourbon Street we found this restaurant and went in for a drink, but ended up having oysters and food. The guys said the oysters were the best they ever had. Our bartender also shucks oysters, and he has his own recipe to season them . I do not eat oysters, so I'm only passing on that they thought they were amazing and they ate a lot of them. We even went back the next day for more and found out he was off for the day. They told us that people come from all over the US for his oysters. We would definitely come back. We came in after a self-guided stroll in the area and it looked quite inviting with their open doors and clean, modern decor - a contrast to the usual architecture you'd see in French Quarter. Extremely loud inside, not because of the customers, but because the staff were trying to bring people in from the street and were using a microphone/speaker system. We all got a mix of the things: red beans and rice, jambalaya, etouffe, gumbo. You can pick 3 or 4. I did all of them except the beans and rice. I enjoyed the gumbo but wasn't a fan of the rest. Stumbled across this place while walking on Bourbon St. this place is located in the heart of the French Quarters. I had a random craving for some oysters. This place did not disappoint. We sat at the bar and ordered half a dozen raw oysters with all the fixings. Shout out to Izzy who recommended the oyster toppings and for shucking them! The oysters came with horseradish, cocktail sauce, lemons, creole seasoning and different types of hot sauce. The oysters were different sizes but very fresh. Our waitress was just plain bad. When we came in there were only two other tables seated so it was not busy. She came by and asked if we wanted water to get started and I advised I would also like a beer. She came back about 5 minutes later with water, no beer. She took everyone's drink orders and walked off. About 10 minutes later she brought the drinks (15 minutes for a can of beer is just slow). She got my wife's drink wrong and was gone again for so long that I ended up walking over to the bartender myself to get it corrected. The French fries were excellent and the burgers were very good. He pointed out some of the local favorites and didn't mind us basking in the air conditioning for a length of time for us to figure out a game plan for the day. First part of this REVIEW is for the 2nd floor event space. Formally known as Bourbon Vieux, Le Bayou is great for events....like a small wedding. Mine was there and it was awesome. The space the staff, the food are all top notch. Creole Cuisine will make things easier for an awesome time here. Hands down best wedding food ever...if you are fortunate enough to partake here you will agree. The balcony is huge for you and your guests too. I cannot express how great this venue is. Food downstairs is top notch. Some things are average, some above and some well above. New Orleans average is better than most cities food so keep that in mind. You won't miss with anything. So we always take a pic with the jester on the second floor. We did it for our wedding. And have done it each year minus pregnancy and Covid cancellations. We go early when nobody is there because our son is young for Bourbon street late afternoon and evening. Each time someone needs to escort us up there as it's not open yet.
