Too bad I discovered this place right before I left to go to my next command. It's even more rare here (Groton, CT). Today they get only one star for the crappy customer service and the mean Asian lady that was behind the counter. I ordered my regular, milk tea with coffee jelly. The sweet mom at the front didn't understand my order, so I patiently waited while the other two ladies behind the counter were helping other customers so I could explain to them what I wanted. One of the workers named Kim recognized me and said she would help me as soon as she could. Unfortunately the other Asian lady helped me, and when I asked for a regular milk tea, she told me condescendingly that she didn't know what flavor that was. She then proceeded to point at the menu. This lady was rude, condescending, and acted like she either hated her job or was annoyed at helping other customers. I now know what the other yelpers are talking about when they talk about the rude customer service. I've been fortunate to have other workers take my order the past couple times I've been here. I usually come about once or twice a week, and I bring others with me. This place has an extremely loyal customer base. On the weekends there is a line formed outside before they are open of people waiting to get in. While visiting my mom for Thanksgiving, she turned me on to Le Bakery. Apparently the chocolate filled croissants are suppose to be the BOMB! She said that they open at 8:30 and there's always a line. Well, there were people waiting. Sadly, they didn't have any of the croissants we wanted. So, I went for the ham & cheese filled croissant. The croissant was moist, tender and flaky with a slight crunch... just how it's suppose to be. The only part I didn't like about it was the cheese. It was American. Not very tasty. It should be made with Gruyere or Swiss. Most of the others were there for Le Bakery's bread. The wall says it all!! I've always thought that the combination of French and Vietnamese cuisine was the best of two completely different worlds. Decided to try this place on a whim, and I'm so glad I did! My friend and I went for lunch and everything was AMAZING! We had two different types of Vietnamese po-boys (pork and curried chicken). The flavors were phenomenal! The curry tasted like it had been marinating and simmering for days. We also had the pecan sticky bun and cream cheese danish. They were, quite possibly, the best I've ever had. The texture of the doughs were perfect and the toppings were so flavorful. Tucked away in a quiet neighborhood, Le Backer is a nice hidden surprise. Upon parking I could immediately smell the fresh bread from outside the building. My main mission was to pick up a grilled pork bahn mi; even though I don't normally eat sweets, I decided to grab two turnovers. The bahn mi was very good, the meat was flavorful with crisp pickled veggies. The turnovers I selected were the guava cream cheese and the raspberry cream cheese... they were extremely good. The turnover were flaky beyond belief with large crystals of sugar atop the pastry. The filling was a perfect balance of cream cheese and fruit. Even if you are just passing through Biloxi I would definitely suggest this spot for a nice pastry in the morning or try one of their bahn mi for an early lunch. We stop here every Sunday after church to pick up bread for the week from Le Bakery. My one tip is to get there early before they run out. They bake all morning, but will stop when it is close to closing time (1PM on Sundays). Their Vietnamese food is also out of this world. "I would walk 500 miles, and I would walk 500 more..." Ok, so I didn't walk 500 miles, but I did walk 5 miles round-trip to satisfy my craving for a French-style Vietnamese Po-Boy. Now that there is dedication! The first time I picked up po-boys from Le Bakery, I was already figuring out when I could go next. I LOVE places like this. Plus, I'm pretty sure I was Asian in a past lifetime. Le Bakery serves up about 18 different combinations of fresh baked bahn mi style sandwiches, but we're in the south so I guess we can call them Vietnamese Po-boys. Eight inches and all at under $5! That's a steal. All fresh ingredients. High quality, low price. If that's not a good enough reason to step in for lunch, then let me go on to tell you how frickin' delicious their sandwiches are! *Thit Nuong Nem Nuong ($4.75) comes with Vietnamese sausage and lemongrass-garlic grilled pork. The two flavors of different meats blending together with each bite is mouthwatering. This po-boy right here will have you hooked. *Coconut Curry Chicken ($3.75) is flavorful enough to stand on it's own without any added soy or hoisin sauces. *Tofu ($3.75) is probably strictly for the tofu lover. If you have never had tofu before, this bahn mi may be a little on the bland side, even though they do use a red spice over the tofu. On to the pastries. Turnovers galore! So many choices can drive a sweet toothed girl insane. How does one choose? Unfortunately for my ass, and fortunately for you, I picked out about 8 different ones within two visits. Now it's all personal preference, but any of the fruit fillings with cream cheese, in comparison to fruit on their own, were much tastier. Without the cream cheese, the turnovers were good, but I couldn't help but compare them to a homemade toaster strudel. They also had unique flavors like Pina Colada and Guava with Cream Cheese. Call me boring, but my favorite was the Blueberry with Cream Cheese. Then, when I saw Yuca Coconut Pie, I just had to try one. I mean I like Yuca as a starch with my steak, and I love me some coconut, but together as a dessert? Well I couldn't pass up trying something new. As it turns out, well...it tastes like yuca, with a hint of coconut. Who would of thought? In addition, they have fresh baked loafs of bread, croissants, cookies, and King Cake. Getting in earlier for desserts is better, seeing as closer to the end of they day they do sell out of some things from locals who know how good they are. Chocolate croissant lover? Get there early. Oh, and let's not forget the bubble tea! They have over 70 flavors to choose from. I went with Taro because it's one of my faves, and it was everything a kid could hope for. I noticed they also had frozen Vietnamese style coffee, which I'll have to give a try next time. Did I mention how friendly, helpful, and informative the staff was? Well, now I did.
