    Razor clams

Here's a perfect way to spend the first half of a Saturday in Paris -first wander through the Vanves flea market, then meander up a few blocks to Le 14 Juillet for lunch. A charming, affordable restaurant with friendly hosts and the best razor clams I have ever eaten. Plus, the complimentary salami to start, a delicious glass of red, and a perfectly cooked steak all added up to an afternoon to remember.

Upon my first day in Paris with my family on a recent trip I was determined to find a spot so local that it was totally off the beaten path and one that required a bit of a journey. After a bit of research I was sold on this French restaurant for not only their savory dishes that had me drooling over my phone as I was scrolling through photos; however, it was their signature dessert I saw that I knew THIS WAS THE PLACE. This is not some big restaurant with tons of seating. NOPE. Be patient and the staff will soon get you a table. We were not in peak hours of lunch, but it was still busy with constant traffic. It's probably a lot easier if your group is no more than 4-6 people MAX. We were a table of three and it probably took us about 20 minutes. Your sense of smell will wiggle with joy as you explore the aroma within. The dishes coming out of the kitchen are all divine and I promise you they're just as delicious as they look. If you don't know French whatsoever, POLITELY ask your server to turn the blackboard which has their whole menu onto the other side as they have their menu written in English. We knew Spanish so we were able to understand the French menu for the most part but it was a lot easier with the English menu. As my cousin and I had no concept of price on this trip to Europe we decided to share the Pan Fried Rib Eye which was about 50 Euros and could easily feed two. The course also came with salad with a house-made vinaigrette, as well as, fries that had the perfect crunch to them. The Pan Fried Rib Eye was so juicy and you should definitely order this no more than Medium (we did medium rare). I still can hear the sizzling of the dish and the "crunch" from each bite I took. I didn't want this dish to end and I understood at that moment why folks were willing to wait. With the sweet tooth that I have, the table ordered their signature dessert- La Profiterole. The easiest way to describe it is the profound royal cousin of the plain Jane s'more. With super soft sponge cake, honey infused ice cream all drench with piping hot chocolate fondue. The chocolate fondue was literally poured with a large ladle from a small cauldron that was brought over. The scene of chocolate infused the area of the restaurant and I was certain Willy Wonka was in the back himself whipping up this dessert. The puff pastry within the dessert was flaky and every spoon of the dessert had me jumping up and down with joy. This experience was one that I'll truly treasure. Also doesn't hurt they serve beer and wine here with quite a heavy pour.

Excellent beef bourginon and scallop of veal. Delicious sauces. And the chocolate fondant cake was superb.

The menus are still written on chalkboards and brought to the tables - one side in French and the other in English.

The richness of the flavor and the texture which is not reminiscent of the traditional roasted duck or foie gras, but rather a much more like a luxurious and indulgent version. We enjoyed our dinner on the outside of the restaurant after about a 20-30 minute wait. The bone marrow had the best flavor I've experienced for the dish. However, it is definitely overshadowed by the rich flavor of the foie gras. This experience was unforgettable, with our view of Parisian streets on a brisk, April night. We even came back on our last night, but didn't realize the hours on Google maps was for the deli. The restaurant closes earlier, before 9:00 PM. This meal got us thinking about Paris in a positive light, and we hope to be able to come back to eat the amazing dishes again!

They had a number of goods to choose from and I ended up buying a few things for souvenirs. As for the actual restaurant, they had a number of delicious sounding items on their menu. Our server was very attentive to us and helped us decide on our dinner orders. Similar to the other restaurants though. After our food was delivered, it was far in between when we were checked on again. And after dessert it took even longer for our server to bring the bill. Overall, the food was a letdown. I do not exaggerate when I say that the frog legs just tasted like slightly flavored water. My friend's ravioli had a fairly decent flavored sauce but the pasta was a bit chewy. My friend's duck breast was pretty tough; I had noticed the table next to us also ordered it and they seemed to have trouble finishing/cutting theirs as well. As for my steak with foie gras, well the steak was once again tough and the foie gras was weirdly stringy. It was soft for the most part but there were parts that were tough and stringy. Maybe that's a section that's generally separated in the preparation process and it was missed? In any case it was disappointing. What wasn't disappointing was dessert though; perfectly sweet and balanced.
