All of my coverage was explained to me very clearly and they even informed me of a discount I qualify for to make my premium lower (low mileage discount!). Unfortunately, I also had 2 cars that were totaled and as everyone knows that can be a headache. Not when dealing with Gochis! Everything was taken care of right away, I even joked that I got "VIP" service because the whole process went so smoothly, including getting me into my new car, the checks put through quickly, rental coverage, etc. It's nice to have an insurance company that you can call with any questions and you actually get a person, not a computer system. I finally removed all my money from MML/Baystate after over a decade of getting no help or advice. I got stuck with their financial advisor, Timothy Curran, as a result of my original advisor leaving Met Life. Once I moved out of state, Timothy Curran never even called me once a year to check in over the past 15+ years. When I called him, I rarely got to talk to him directly and if I did it was very brief. He provided no guidance. I usually spoke with his assistant Karen who gave me an attitude whenever I had a question/problem and was not helpful. Whatever other money I had to invest, I went elsewhere. When I finally transferred all my money from MML/Baystate to another financial advisor with another company, I was charged for a negative balance that I found out had incurred prior to Oct 2015 (after weeks of my investigation) when Met Life merged into MML. No one told me about it or alerted me to that problem or to the fact that I was getting a 5% interest charge on the negative balance every month. I could've easily paid it off 7 years ago. It was the result of an investment that had fees that outweighed the profit, so when I asked Tim what happened to the account when I first noticed it missing on my report, I was told it was closed out. No advice, no other explanation or instructions. When I called Tim Curran for an answer in 2022 about why that negative balance kept continuing to accrue interest charges and why wasn't I told about it before 2015, his assistant said, "How should we know? You should contact MML to find out. We wouldn't have any idea why they did that!" I called MML over 10x and got a different person each time that had no idea what was going on. After more than a month of calling MML, I FINALLY spoke to a young man that explained what happened. It took him 2 minutes. He felt bad that nobody was willing to help me and actually gave me erroneous information (I was told I was wrong - that it was a credit not a debit). Tim Curran and MML couldn't bother giving me that help and info. When I asked for reimbursement for the interest charges since 2015 due to negligence on MML/Curran's part, I was denied. By the way, when I was told to call Baystate Financial directly, and was given 5 names of people to talk to, I could never get through to a human. And all the people I was told to reach to get help had voicemail boxes that were conveniently full!!

Patty collected all the information she needed and emailed me the next morning with quotes for home insurance and automobile insurance. The price was significantly lower that my existing policies so I moved both policies to Tarpey. I don't think I'll ever leave. Any time I've emailed Patty or sent someone from my family to their office the service has exceeded my expectations. Don't let the nonstop TV based insurance advertising fool you, local insurance companies can match or beat the pricing and provide far better service.

Whenever I call them for anything (which is often, as I've had an auto policy with them for 4 years and a renter's policy for the last year), they are always extremely helpful and promptly return my calls. I can't remember ever waiting more than an hour or two for a callback. When I've shopped around for better rates at all of the usual insurance suspects (Geico, Liberty Mutual, MetLife, even Amica), Old Heritage still comes out as cheaper by a good margin. (Or rather, the insurance that Old Heritage sells -- Safety Insurance -- comes out being significantly cheaper.) I have to think that the abundance of negative reviews exemplifies the adage that the only people who write reviews on the internet are people with bad experiences. Or at least it seems that one is more likely to flock to the internets to write a negative review than to write a positive one. So consider this my attempt to strike a more fair balance.

The car was my only form of transportation and it took me about a week to get a friend to drive me there. When I got there they couldn't find my paperwork! I looked though files for them at the office (which I'm sure is illegal) and I never found my file. I left a hour later without signing the paper work. Later next week when I FINALLY got a hold of Danielle she said it was locked in an office and that she couldn't mail it to me. I told her that someone has to drive it over to me or mail it and she mailing it was illegal. Needless to say I got the papers to sign later that same week and mailed it back. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES USE OLD HERITAGE INSURANCE. I can't express how bad and rude the people are there. The price may be cheap but you really do get what you pay for.
