Do yourself a favor and just go somewhere else. Anytime I've gotten an auto policy through this…read moreagency it's been significantly higher than other competitors. Then when you get charged over $100 more unexpectedly, they wont give you the courtesy of giving you a heads up or explain why. Infact, they dont even bother to reach out to you period like other agencies do. I had to contact them several times and still dont have a clear answer. When I cancelled after the charge they say the other auto companies will "raise their rates" on me. That's ironic. I paid way less upfront for my new auto policy with a bigger name than the few hundred dollars that they require upfront. Not happy with my experience here and the customer service is lazy. My experience here was nothing but a hassle.

This old-fashioned insurance agent is located in an easy-to-reach (well, easy to reach for Woburn)…read morespot on Main Street in a lovely old victorian house, bordering on mansion, which overlooks a perfectly manicured lawn. Not what you expect for your insurance agent, but after having had nothing but good relations with them over the phone, I was pleased to visit their office to pick up some paperwork, and find that they are just as nice in person as they are over the phone. Mary Jane Keane in particular is very nice to work with, though she's insanely busy all the time, and will take care of whatever issues you have just like that. ::snaps::. They'll compare policies, give you the right rate, and their old-school customer service is top shelf. Love these folks.

I called Platinum a couple times before actually visiting. Their hours leave a little to be…read moredesired, so I had to take some time off work to get my car switched from MI to MA. When I spoke with them on the phone, they were always pleasant, that is, if they answered the phone. Maybe they were busy, I dont know, but I do know the website is straight out of 1999. (You know, back when more stuff was better, user experience be damned). Their actual place is tiny and is just a room on the second floor of a commercial building in Brighton Center. Despite the modest appearances, they were helpful and I think they did a fine job of finding me the best price. I got quotes over the phone from a couple other places and let me just tell you, just because you live in Back Bay doesn't mean you should go to an insurance agency downtown. They have higher rents and charge you more so they can pay the bills. The services are identical. So the Insurance I settled on was Commerce (no surprise) and I got a nice 'Safe Driver Discount' for not having any blemishes on my record. It's $139/yr discount. (Keep that in mind next time you need to get somewhere really really fast while making screeching left turns across traffic from the right lane). The insurance quote was something like $1080, then they gave 10% off for having multiple policies. (I added a renter's insurance policy for about $190/yr.) When I got my insurance information in the mail, they had checked my record, found nothing and given me the safe driver discount which brought me down to $841 This was getting better by the minute. And now, I hear Commerce gives a 5% discount for AAA members. Do you know how much AAA costs for one year? $48 in MA. $48! I havent done it yet, but if I get AAA, there's an $11 signup fee, then a $48 yearly fee. But that 5% discount I get on my Commerce insurance equals $42/yr. So the first year of AAA 'costs' me $17 and every year after I pay $6. THAT is a great deal for such a valuable service! Coming from MI, I heard the horror stories about the price of MA insurance and all that jazz. Well, I guess Michigan (no-fault) has worse insurance laws than MA because my premium was going to be $1412/yr back home and now living in Brighton, parking on a public street, I pay $841/yr for full coverage on an '03 sedan. This is an excellent price for such an important thing as auto insurance. I don't know much about how the price increases for bad drivers, but the rates presented to me were great. Platinum did a great job and offered the best price of the three places I shopped. I highly recommend them.

My name was misspelled and it took two followup emails to get it fixed, but I didn't think much of it. Recently I wanted to obtain a quote for auto insurance, and emailed my agent with all the relevant info about my driving record and the vehicle. He replied back a day later that he would send me a quote and that they had a RMV runner for obtaining the plates. A week later I emailed again trying to obtain the quote and received no further replies. No reply to an existing customer trying to add another significant policy means 1 star rating. I ended up going with a different agency (nearby in Cambridge, tons of excellent ratings) who replied right away and got everything set up via email before I went in and quickly signed all the paperwork.

Whenever I call them for anything (which is often, as I've had an auto policy with them for 4 years and a renter's policy for the last year), they are always extremely helpful and promptly return my calls. I can't remember ever waiting more than an hour or two for a callback. When I've shopped around for better rates at all of the usual insurance suspects (Geico, Liberty Mutual, MetLife, even Amica), Old Heritage still comes out as cheaper by a good margin. (Or rather, the insurance that Old Heritage sells -- Safety Insurance -- comes out being significantly cheaper.) I have to think that the abundance of negative reviews exemplifies the adage that the only people who write reviews on the internet are people with bad experiences. Or at least it seems that one is more likely to flock to the internets to write a negative review than to write a positive one. So consider this my attempt to strike a more fair balance.

He didn't tell me when he was coming as Danielle promised he would. Then Danielle wanted me to come to the office to sign some paper work as the car was totaled. The car was my only form of transportation and it took me about a week to get a friend to drive me there. When I got there they couldn't find my paperwork! I looked though files for them at the office (which I'm sure is illegal) and I never found my file. I left a hour later without signing the paper work. Later next week when I FINALLY got a hold of Danielle she said it was locked in an office and that she couldn't mail it to me. I told her that someone has to drive it over to me or mail it and she mailing it was illegal. Needless to say I got the papers to sign later that same week and mailed it back. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES USE OLD HERITAGE INSURANCE. I can't express how bad and rude the people are there. The price may be cheap but you really do get what you pay for.
